Are the studios giving us their first-born with HDM?

I really enjoy HDM. My wife thinks it is better than a movie theater.

My question: after they give us HDM, there is nothing left for them?

Is this the best we can get, ever?

I am not complaining, just curious.

Technical info would help a lot, thanks guys.

there is more data/resolution stored on a frame of film than current technology can even begin to show.

25 years from now, we'll be looking at images that will make 1080p look like VHS.

Damed, I do agree.

So the question is pretty much rhetorical.

Still, HDM looks good.

To me, all of my Hi Def movies look better then the ones that I see at theatres.

Yeah, that was one of the arguments that one of the studios (Disney?) was making back at the beginning of DVD. Essentially saying that the studio was "giving away their masters" to everyone for $14.99 a pop.

Here they are, 10 years later, billions of dollars richer, gearing up to resell everything all over again.

And they'll do it again in another decade or two.

On PQ we are not at lossless yet, however on AQ with all the 24bit lossless tracks appearing you are getting the original sound so yes that is as good as it gets.
This is why i am always surprised when someone says its good enough, why? shouldnt we be asking for lossless PQ, and AQ? That would be good enough because that was good enough for the director whose vision you are enjoying.

Greetings

If it already looks better than what anyone ever saw in a theater ... what is left to resell to us?

A 3D version of the same film?

Regards

More extras, commentaries, redone visual effects, re-cut editions of the movie, etc. At the worst, more studios could take the Disney approach and only sell a film on disc for limited times, creating an artificial demand several times for a format, and again for new formats.

But ultimately this is why movie studios make new films... because they can't live off the residuals from things made 20 years ago forever. That's called "free money" and it doesn't exist, no matter how much big corporations (from movie studios to music studios to mortgage companies to the defense industry) want it to. Even if I bought Disney's whole back catalog on HDM, they still have new films coming out. Nobody likes working for a living though, no matter how much money they have.

HDM is all about trying to get control of an industry that is duped/copied/pirated left and right.

They are desperate to replace those DVD players with something that they can make more money on. SD DVDs are too cheap. They need HD media, and all of the new copy difficulties/restrictions that come with it.
