2006 Pioneer 6070 vs. 2007 6010HD

From a practical standpoint the price difference between these two TV's is about $2,000. This means you could purchase a 2006 6070/pro 1540 and probably have enough left over to buy a 2007 6010 in 18-24 months.

My ultimate goal is a 70" 1080P HD Pioneer Plasma TV in my dedicated room.
So, is the 6070 a better choice today than a 6010? After all, I rarely watch 1080P content and mostly view 480I/720P from 8'-9'.

I bet there are some really good deals on the 6070/pro 1540 and they will get even better over the next 30-60 days. Comments? Any slightly used 1540's for sale?

if you can get a new 6070 for $2600 shipped you should buy it now. check ebay or craiglist for used 1540s.

Pioneer doesn't make a 70", and as far as I know there are no plans to do so.

The 6010 is far superior to the 6070 IMO. The black levels, color saturation and accuracy, tweakability and extra options alone are worth the price difference. Also, if you will be watching 480i SD material on a 60 inch, it's gonna look like garbage at that distance and/or without 1080p. However, if you really can get the 6070 for$2600, it's a no brainer.

Have you gone to the local B&M and compared these two sets?

i see no SDE on a 5080 at 8.5', but adding the extra 10" would probably make that quite visible...

i had a 5070 for a few weeks then returned it for the 5080...big difference, PQ wise. blacks are darker and all colours seem a bit nicer. love the extra inputs as well, and the tuner is even stronger...i was able to re-scan and pick up 3 or 4 new channels since getting the 5080
