XA2 at a great price - Page 2

Went back to the Beast Buy I hit last night and the other unit was still up on the top shelf. Went up to the checkout and it was slow night - I was the last one in line at 7:30 on a Thursday night - so I didn't have the hectic factor working for me.

Was called to the register and gave the girl a friendly greeting - "Hellloooooooooo, bay-bee!!!" - and put the box on the counter with the printout* and my Reward Zone card on top. She scanned everything and obviously it didn't take because she frowned and started looking it over. "Don't read the fine print. Do not read the fine print. These aren't the droids you're looking for..." ran through my mind. She tried to scan it again and this time, tapped something in on the keyboard which I'm assuming was the discount code and she announced the total....

$466.39!

If anyone was watching me go to my car on the security cameras, they would've witnessed me taking the box out, putting it in the trunk and then immediately pulling what appeared to be the same box back out, placing it on the cart and walking back into the store.

The doorman did a double-take - wouldn't you if you just saw someone walk out with what they're bringing back about three minutes earlier? - but didn't say anything. Went to the returns desk where they saw it was still sealed, scanned it, got my credit of $529.99 (a $63.60 savings!) and I was gone like a fifth and a gram at Lindsey Lohan's place.

The ironic thing about this deal is that I was the one who missed out on the VE sale because I waited until the last moment and discovered that they didn't take my flavor of credit card. I was disappointed and thought it'd be quite a while before I could score this player for a good price. Fortunately, the angels of the AVS Forum came thru with the sweet deal and I saved $135 over what I would've paid VE! (Sorry, Robert. Next time, OK?) From disappointment comes great savings!

Huzzah to you all! Cheers!!! Thank you and good night!!!!

Hey, you still return it too in a couple of weeks when they're cheaper or you find out the tech details of the new players.

What the heck!?! I just got my newspaper and NO coupons for BB or CC for 'ANY' HD players!
Not to mention the XA2 is still $699!?!
Aren't these big box stores supposed to have universal sales and sunday booklets??

My guess is no based on that when you go to bestbuy.com to look at weekly ads you have to enter a zip.

one L.I. NY zip is 11747 if your not in NY and want to check.

Did the Amazon deal with 8 movies end on the XA2? I can't find it on the website.

well,at $439 I had to give it a go.
called BB,asked the guy if they had the Xa2.He checked the sku, said they had 1 left.
went to the store, the first guy kept looking at the website saying"I'm not even showing that on the site..."
he finally asked another guy,who was helping someone else, dude smiled and without blinking an eye said "do a search for sku 8259573"

guy 1 says "oh there it is"
then spent 15 mins looking for it on the sales floor.
handed me the box and said "wow I didn't know we even carried that"

the girl at the register didn't even try to read the 12% off coupon.which by the way isthe one that has the bd/hddvd exclusion.
scanned everything, paid and away I went.

Unfortunately, they pulled the plug after two days after announcing that it would continue until 9/23!

If you can get 12% off at Best Buy today/tomorrow, that is a much better deal.

Exactly, but I would say it would be couple of months.

Who ever said there was going to be a coupon in the newspaper? It was never supposed to be in there. Only way to get the 10% coupon was to print it from the internet.

Have you been into the store to see what the actual price that it rings up?

Been shopping around a few Best Buys and found an open XA2, opened, but mint. The supervisor on the floor gave me $150 off. So it was $349 + tax out the door. Was planning to get the A20, but $50 more is worth it for the Reon chip. The XA2 is is also one slick looking player.

Too bad it can't even remember where it leaves off on the disc in the tray when you power it off. It's unbelievable that such an expensive piece of supposedly elite gear fails at a basic functional level that can be expected from a $40 player (that doesn't even output component) you'd buy at a drugstore.

Yep! I'm sending in the coupon for 5 more discs in the mail...

More details, please... was that open box, or is that new standard price?

i tried one of the coupons when i got my $499 xa2 at best buy last night. girl didn't check the coupon, so i thought i had it, but the register itself rejected it. the girl was half way through voiding it and giving me the discount when she noticed that HD-DVD players were excluded. no 10% off for me, but i'm still happy with the $499 price for an xa2.

take it up with the HD-DVD spec. resume play isn't in there. i'd be surprised if the onkyo player wasn't exactly the same as the toshibas for that.
