DirecTV - really bad customer service!

After over 8 years of premium service, having to purchase my own HDTV DVR which is now obsolete and they won't upgrade to the new mpeg4, and 2 bad installations that had to be redone - I still stuck with them.

Now I have to cancel service because I have moved to a townhouse that does not allow dishes and they are charging me $37 early termination!

What a load of crap!

I had intended to renew when I moved again, but screw that. They are losing a long time customer over $37.

I think there is a federal law that says associations and townhomes cannot prohibit antennas or small dishes.

Tell them you want to suspend your account, wait about 3 months then call back and cancel, that should cancel out the remainder of your contract. It is worth a shot.

If you own the townhouse, they can't ban dishes.

I just signed up for DirecTV a few months ago....was promised NFL Superfan with my NFL Ticket for free....didn't know I needed a HD receiver for Superfan. After, a few calls and talking to the right people, they gave me a free HD receiver upgrade months after I subscribed and NFL Superfan for free. Paired with my new 50" Panny Plasma, I'm ready for some football. My point....it depends who you talk to when you call DirecTV. Some will bend over backwards and others will just piss you off...if you have a bad experience, try calling back and talking to someone different.

Oh yeah, I think there is some law regarding dishes on townhomes...I believe you can get away with it if you purchase rental insurance. Thats what happened to me....$300,000 in coverage insurance was required and costed me about $12 a month through St. Farm....FYI.
