Has anybody seen calibrations settings for this set. I will be picking mine up tomorrow, and I was wondering what settings people were finding that looked the best. I have the DVE disk, but I probably wont have time till the weekend to set up the set, and usually even the basic cinema settings are alittle off

Just got my 65833 delivered today. Can't wait to get home. Hopefuuly, no loud fan noise.

I have a WD65833, a PS3, and a Onkyo 805. Whats the best way to set this up? The hdmi out from the receiver to the hdmi on the tv, the hdmi on the PS3 to the receiver or the tv? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how many HDMI inputs you have on the receiver. Ideally, you
connect all signal sources to the receiver HDMI inputs and then connect
the receiver HDMI output to the TV HDMI input. If there aren't enough
inputs on the receiver, connect some source(s) to the TV but now you
have to select that source(s) on the TV (usually, by pressing the remote
several times) rather than on the receiver.

My 57833 arrived today and I'm pretty satisfied with it right out of the box. When I first turned it on I couldn't hear anything but the audio from the TV. It wasn't until after maybe 5 min or so that I could hear the high pitched noise coming from the back of TV. Is this the color wheel or the fan? I've been watching HD channels on D* and don't seem to be bothered by the sound at all. I can hear it well, but it doesn't seem to interrupt my viewing. Is this a sign of problems to come down the line that I should call Mitsubishi about? Totally silent would be good, but I don't want to spend the next 3 weeks on the phone with them getting new sets if this is the "norm" for these types of TVs.

Can ANYBODY find ANYWHERE to purchase the matching stand for the 73833?

I found the one pictured in the brochure at the TechCraft.net site (http://techcraft.net/htm/index.htm : look under products, then either Monaco or MD), but TechCraft doesn't sell direct and I cannot find a single place (B&M or online) that stocks it. My 73833 is on its way, and I don't want it to feel unwelcome when it arrives!

Barring that, may I inquire what stands have people found other than the Bush and the Sanus already mentioned? Just want to know all the options before I choose-- Thanks in advance!!

Me neither. Had mine going for over an hour with different inputs also.

Do a Google search on Techcraft PTV48. I found a half a dozen on-line stores that carry it. Try Racks and Stands. I would also look at BDI. they have a nice site and I bought their Vector 9527 for the WD-65833 that I will get on Friday. Bought it all at the birdie store. Don't know whether a 73 will fit or not. ^5 looks great on it.

Well, picked up my 65833 today. Had to setup the stand for it first (picked up a Mits 65GB - not designed for this tv, but the set fits perfectly and matches well - pictures to follow in the next few days). I already had my Harmony remote setup for the tv and components.

Initial impressions - out of the box a stellar picture. Obviously needs some tuning like every other set on the market. Will be running AVIA and/or another calibration disk to tune this up myself. The birdy store also threw in a free calibration (although at a cost of only $120 normally I'm not sure how good of a job they'll do, but since it's free I'll definitely have them take a look). Sitting at eight feet feels really close coming from a 52" Mits, but I'm sure like that tv I'll get used to it and probably want something larger in about 2 years. No loud fan noise at all. I was muting the receiver periodically to listen for this and have found nothing, thankfully.

I have no HD source right now other than D*, which looks really good except the TV does an excellent job demonstrating the flaws in their compression. Guess you can't expect perfection from the source, but the TV definitely delivers nicely. Movies look pretty good, although watching a 480p DVD from eight feet is not very high quality. Can't wait until I jump on BR/HD-DVD now. All in all, an excellent tv thus far, but I will be waiting for some football this upcoming weekend (and my calibration) to render a final verdict.

Few questions for owners of xx833 sets:

1. How did you get the tv to recognize a receiver was connected (needed to turn off the tv speakers)? I connected a digital coax from the set to my receiver, but I hardly feel this should be necessary since I will never use this connection to transfer audio data. I would've expected to just be able to turn the tv speakers off regardless of whether or not the tv thinks a receiver is connected. This might be a moot point when I get an HDMI capable receiver, but for now it's annoying.

2. Anyone with this set and a Harmony remote, do you have any problems when using activities to switch between HDMI and component inputs? If I switched from DVD (running component through my receiver to component input 1 on the tv) to D* (running through HDMI input 1) the remote always goes to HDMI input 2. Then I have to use the tv remote to get to the correct input. I'm sure I'll get this figured out eventually (as I don't want to use the tv remote ever - that's the beauty of the Harmony remotes), but I'm hoping someone has already figured this out so I don't have to work too hard.

More review coming in the near future, when I find time to watch the set more. However, I am very pleased at this point. Thanks to all for the reviews and information being presented about these models.

Can someone review how the black levels look on this model with dark scenes from movies such as the space scenes from Star Wars or shadow scenes in Batman Begins? I would also welcome opinions from those of you who have seen this tv compared to past or current Sony SXRD models. I am a former owner of the Mitsubishi 62725 and am in the process of evaluating this model versus the soon to be released XBR5. Thanks for all of your opinions and congratulations to the new owners of this set.

The tv does handle passthru of video on hdmi from source>receiver>tv.

I am still on the fence, not sure whether I want a 65" or 73" TV, but have
given thought to mounting whatever TV I choose. I have searched the net
and have found nothing that will fit my setup. Those that came close were
expensive. I have decided to build my own.

I realize this is not for everyone. It's a fair amount of hassle, but for those
that have woodworking inclination/capability, it's a very cost effective way
to get exactly what they want for their HT.

I have 3 hdmi inputs and 1 out on the receiver. 4 hdmi inputs on the tv. I won't need an optical out on the Playstation for the best audio?

the mitsu website tells you the manufacturer of the stand. they don't make a stand 4 their own tv-go figure!

i'm considering buying the 65833. does the 120hz make a substantial difference? how does the 120hz handle fast-motion scenes. i don't want to spend the $ if i've got little blocks forming during tv or blu-ray discs. any and all comments greatly appreciated as my crt is fading quickly(convergence)!

KOP huh? Your not all the far from me, I'm in West Chester, but went to DE to get the set. Not quite as good of a deal for me, but with the tax difference (and having a truck to pickup) it works for me.

If you dont mind me asking are you using Comcast or Verizon for a signal? We have Verizon and so far have been very pleased with their service (and price).

I would hook up directly to the TV. The Onkyo does not do a very good job of upconverting the signal from other sources like a dvd player or satelite, but it is good for hdmi swtching. Most HT receivers are not known for their video conversion abilities unless they are very high end, which is usually a price tag over $2,000- $2,500 with hdmi1.3

I quoted the important section. I also have the harmony 880 remote and those correspond on my remote as well. It's obviously working for you and not for me, which seems strange. The only thing I did was rename the HDMI 1 input to SAT (for now), but I know that will have absolutely no affect on this issue. I guess I'll just cycle through those Harmony commands and find the one that seems to correspond to HDMI 1. Guess that and some initial calibration will be tonights chore. Hopefully I can get some pics posted. Thanks lujan.

I would go with a Bell'o cradenza. They have very good HT furniture mostly sold at high end stores, not at the big box stores. Here is a link for a stand you can use for the WD 65833. I got it for $299 at the store I deal with.

Yeah, I googled my @$$ off, believe me. But it's the MD73 I was looking for (not the PTV48), as it's the only one that Tech Craft builds for the 73833. Been to Racks & Stands; they don't have it. I will check out BDI, though-- thanks for the tip!

Well I got the WD 65833 last Friday and here is what I can tell you so far reagrding some of the complaints/issues I have heard/read.

1. The noisy color wheel has not been an issue. With all of the research I have done into DLP and SXRD tvs over the past 2 years I have come to the conclusion that this is exagerated by most people as an issue. The speakers on the TV will cover up the noise anyway. Fan noise on most pc's is much, much louder. I only hear the fan after I watch TV for several hours and turn it off at night. This should be expected though. I would buy with out fear of the color wheel noise. It's turning into an urban leagend.

2. PQ is great so far. I can't wait for that game tomorrow night. I have played with the settings. I turned 120hrz on since it is not on by default. Gears of War on Xbox 360 looks outstanding. I am waiting for others to post some claibration settings as the ones I found I didn't like at all.

3. No screen glare at all compared to the Sony 60 A3000. I have this tv in a finished basement with 2 large windows that face west (uGHHH!!). So glare was inportant. No of us have had any problems viewing the tv. 8 People have seen the tv and have made nothing but positive comments on the PQ.

4. I looked at this tv the sony 60A3000 and the new sammy. The sammy I thought might be great, you know their won't be any bulbs with the LEDs. Well if you do some research into Korean manufacturing you probably won't want to buy some of their products. The build quality on that TV was fragile compared to the Mits and Sony. I would not trust my 4 year old near the thing. LED is still unproven as well since it is so new. The sammy also does not produce blacks all to well. The tv is to bright, but has good color definition. That left me with the Sony or Mits. I went with the Mits for 2 reasons. The glare that I previously mentioned as an issue, and the fact that next to each other the Mits looked better. I don't just mean the cabinet, but also the picture.

I am very pleased with this purchase.

Thanks for letting us know your thoughts Jonny; I ordered the 73833. It was suppose to be in on the 2nd at Barrett's but still nothing. Is anyone else out there waiting for one from Barrett's in Illinois?

This may help some of you out with finding the Tech Craft stand. This came direct from Mitsubishi as I work for a Mitsubishi company. I personally do not like this stand not enough room for my equipment and to shallow. It was made for the depth of the TV but most audio equipment is much deeper.
