I am not sure what the eragon picture is showing exactly.

Sometimes its hard to tell with a photo of a TV picture. (is it the photo or the TV?)
Is the problem that the picture is broken into 'lo-res' blocks? At least thats what I see in the picture.

If it is, then you may want to copy the engine data.

This is my last response from Motorola (I have given up on them), concerning using the Digital Optical Audio out along with HDMI. DOES NOT WORK.

Thank you for choosing Motorola.

Unfortunately, these units are new and we haven't had much training on the settings. If they are anything like our other models, try turning the unit off and selecting menu. This should open addition setup options for the unit. If this does not work or give you the options to change the audio, then you may want to contact Comcast and see if they can manually configure the ports to work this specific way.

Please contact us if you need further assistance with this matter. You can also visit our web site at www.motorola.com/broadband to access your user's guide and frequently asked questions about your product. You can also call us at 1-877-466-8646 option 2 for further assistance.

Sincerely,

Brandon

I guess I will disconnect the HDMI cable I just purchased and use component with the optical audio going to the amp...... Seems ridiculous to me.

Yeah, it is the lo-res blocks that is bothering me. Not sure what is causing it. The source? What is the engine data?

If you go into the Moto service menu, as instructed above, do you see an option for "DVI mode". This should turn off audio to the HDMI, it may enable optical out. That's how I had my DCH3416 set up, when I had it.
You may be better served on the forum thread for Comcast??

Macroblocking. If playing back a standard DVD to the TV doesn't show the problem, it's DirectTV, their box or cable.
Thanks Joe, I will try the DVI option. If that works - and I hope it does - that means the HDMI (when used) does not cut off the fiber out as I was told by Comcast. Also, I am not too familiar with this Forum and cannot find the forum thread for Comcast.

Thanks Again,

Wally

Ok, I upgraded from my 52525 to the 57833.

Issue #1 - my 57833 is making the high pitched whine. Very annoying. Sounds like there is an easy fix for this by a tech.

Issue #2 - very minor scratch on screen. Can't see it when the TV is on, but when examining the screen with a flashlight before I hooked it up, noticed a small scratch.

Issue #3- I put in Matrix and 300 in my A20 HD-DVD (upgraded to v2.5 firmware). Output on 1080p/24. The picture looks 'grainy' or pixelated. The 1080i movie Black Dalia off of HBO HD (HD DVR) looked better than my HD DVD player. Some of the other HD channels look grainy as well? Anyone else have an issue with 'grainy' pictures? I haven't really calibrated contrast/brightness colors etc, so not sure if its grainy cause the default setting's are pretty 'bright' and show a lot of detail.

So I'm wondering, do I return it and risk having the same issues, or call a tech who can probably fix the whine, and live with the small scratch.

I'm more concerned about the grainy HD pictures.

Any help?

300 is very grainy in HDDVD. There are many posts on this. The 'fix' did NOT fix my whine . But i did get a replacement that did not have ANY whine.

Hi everybody,
I have a 73833, does anybody has a odd light glow in the bottom of the screen, it is especially noticable if you stand up and look from the top. Furthermoore, there is even a vertical light glow from the left side and goes about 4 inches high...
Any help?
I don't think so. Maybe a picture of it would help?
I will try to take some pics tonight, thanks for the reply.

I currently have a Mits 73732. When I first received the TV, there was a high pitched noise...then all of the color disappeared except red. The entire picture was red! My local hi-end dealer replaced the TV with a new 73732. Then, the TV had issues and would automatically turn off. The TV would display a message stating that the air vents were blocked, and would turn off in one minute... then would turn off. This happened on a daily basis. Sometimes it would occur 5-6 times in a row with me having to reset the tv each time. I reported this problem to Mits and my local dealer who sold me the TV. I was told by my local dealer, and by a Mits authorized repair facility that they could no longer get the sensor to repair my problem. Finally... after battling this issue since March and it is now November, my dealer explained that they have finally convinced Mits to take the TV back and refund my money... Only after I escalated the issue filing a BBB complaint & contacted the customer support manager listed on the Mits web site.

I am interested in the Mits 73833, and it sounds like there have been just a few issues with the TV. 1) the high pitch noise issue. 2) the geometry issue.

My local dealer will no longer sell & support Mits due to the very poor support issues he experienced with my TV.

Mits wants to pick up the TV immediately. I was thinking about holding out for the new 70" Sony XBR5 TV. However that TV is not available until "early 2008". Which would leave me without a TV for the balance of the football season, and I have the Direct TV football package... (I may as well though $250 down the toilet), and would leave me without a TV though all of the holidays.

I chose the 73732 originally due to what I perceived were incredible vibrant colors, great picture quality, and favorable price points.

Has anyone had the horrible Mits customer support experience that I dealt with?

After reading through this forum... It seems like most owners of the 73833 are quite happy.

I've had this complaint for awhile as well. I've come to the conclusion through lots of troubleshooting that it's a problem with the source, not the display. Specifically, there is a difference in quality from HDTV channel to channel, and HD DVD disc to disc. Some pictures are WOW. Others, EWWW.
I have the glow in the center bottom of screen when off. Others have refered to this as the 'flashlight effect'.

Why not fix the sensor issue and go on with your life?
I never understand why people are so willing to spend so much time and effort on a TV when all they have to do is call a repair tech and have it fixed in about 30min or less.

I guess the obvious question is why are you watching your TV from the top?

you may want to try and rent 'The Departed'. I hear it has a nearly perfect VC-1 transfer and can be considered demo quality.
It is also a combo disk, so you can compare with the SD version.

Edit: Matrix should be really good quality. Check out the review here: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/405/matrix_ct.html
"...'The Complete Matrix Trilogy' remains a feast for both the eyes and ears -- you'll be hard-pressed to come up with better demo material for your HD DVD rig...."
What input do you use when watching SD programs? I find that HDMI and component often make for a harsh-looking picture, with s-vid actually more pleasing...

If i read his post correctly mits says the sensor is not available anymore.

I tried...

The 1st TV that the dealer who sold me the TV has in his possession... has tried to have the TV repaired a couple of times with no luck. Then Mits Repair Tech Company explained that they were out of the life cycle support parts for the product.

The TV that I have was scheduled for repair and the company who was going to complete the repair said that they couldn't get the sensor that would fix the issue.

Has anyone who owns this set (specifically the 73 in) seen any dramatic improvement with the 120hz? Especially with gaming and movies. I game a decent amount and love to watch movies with some HD broadcasting, Sports mostly. If you have could you give me an idea of what I will be looking at when i get this tv.
Thanks
I have heard that 120 hz refresh helps with games, but with movies & OTA signals, I can't even perceive that it's on.

Hiya All

Long time troller, first time poster.

I got my 73833 & my Pioneer Elite vsx-92txh yesterday. After 4 hours I finally figured out how to get the HDMI to stay on after turning off the Mits. The PQ is amazing. The size is ridiculous. I am stepping up from a 36" 10 yr old Toshiba tube and a 15 yr old Onkyo.

I will be posting more as my experience continues. If anyone needs to verify something before purchase, please PM me and I will see if I can be of assistance.

Yes, I think the PQ is amazing as well out of the box. I have tried to make changes to the video on several occassions based on other people calibrating it, but I keep going back to the default because it looks so dull to me with the changes. I guess I just like the "WOW factor" more than the "natural" look.

I feel the same way. The picture may be more accurate with the recommended calibration, but the images seem bland. I have really tried to like the natural look, but keep going back to the factory settings, using brilliant for animated movies and bright for HD/BR movies with flesh tones. I'm disappointed that my eye for correct color, contrast, sharpness, etc. is not more discerning.
You should calibrate it and make it a point to watch it that way for 2 weeks.

Then try the factory settings. I think you'll find you appreciate the correct image much more and you'll never go back to the obscenely bright WOW settings you're currently using.

Just received my new Mits. WD-57833. A terrific set, but my rear inputs HDMI2 and HDMI 3 get me no video. The set recognizes when something is attached (tried both TV and DVD), but no video comes through. Not a cable problem, for everything works great on HDMI1 in the rear, and HDMI4 in the front. Any suggestions?

Also, I only get 2 format modes....standard and wide expand. Where are the other 5 or 6?????

Thanks!

The other format modes are for non-HD signals.

Good luck. I'm loving it myself and Mitsubishi has rarely let me down since my first one in 1980 which is still running.
