I actually didn't try to compare the noise to my old 52725, but I know it was significantly louder. So loud on the 65833, in fact, that the salesman I was talking to commented that after all the tv's/etc were turned off in the store last night, he could hear the fan whine from the front door (with the 65833 at the back of the store - like 50 ft away).

Anyway, checked it out today and found that the fan was barely audible. It could be heard by moving to the rear of the tv, but from anywhere in front of the tv I couldn't pick it up. Needless to say, that and the reassurance that I have a 30-day no questions asked return policy prompted me to order the set. It should be delivered to the store on Tuesday, so I will hopefully have a set up 65833 on Tuesday night. I wont be able to post pictures that night most likely, but I will try to get something up before the end of the week. I will let everyone know my initial reactions. Unfortunately I do not have an HD-DVD or BR player yet (waiting for a good combo device - maybe the new Sammy coming out soon), so the only HD I will be able to feed this baby is from D*. I will also be connecting a 360 and Wii, so hopefully I can snap some shots of the 360 for you gamers out there... Wish me luck with the fan noise!

What size do you have? 57"? 65"? or 73"?

Oh yeah. I'll probably be sitting about 8 feet from the 65833. Should work out nicely. It's the same distance as my current 52", and I've been wanting more size for like a year now. So this should be a very enjoyable upgrade...

I have the 65833 and we sit 8'-10' away and works out nicely for us! May seen BIG at 1st , but get used to it fast, and anything smaller would seen to small now.

That's how it was with my 52725. It was huge at first, but it got small quickly. And that's why I want bigger. Plus I'm prepping for my plunge into HD-DVD/BR.

Two questions:

(1) Where did you guys buy your 833? Without going into specific prices, I can pick one up on Ebay for a lot less than my local BB, after considering delivery prices vs sales tax, etc. Does Mits honor the warranty if you don't buy from an authorized dealer? The partial warranty they have on their web site doesn't say. What do you think about extended warranties (regardless of where you buy the set)?

(2) Seating distance - I now sit just under eight feet from my six year old Sony 61" TV. This is the bulky old style that weighs around 800 pounds The HDTV picture on that set is 55", or about 18 inches smaller than the 75833 (I would prefer to not get the 65833). The front of my old Sony is 36" from the wall, allowing a little room for wiring. It is about 23" deep. So, I would gain 6 inches compared to the 75833, which is 17" deep, plus I could move it back a little bit. I would end up sitting about 8'8" from the 75833. Do you think that is too close?

BTW, I just bought my daughter the WD-65733. She really likes her new TV. How different is the 833 series?

Viewing distances for 16 x 9 screens:

57" 6-12ft
65" 7-14ft
73" 8-16ft

Closer the better IMO especially if you watch a lot of HD / HD-DVD / Blu-Ray

I have a HD1000U projector upstairs in the media room with a custom built 140" screen and the two long rows are at 12ft and 18ft

My dad is getting the 73833 next week so I will be calibrating it for him after it comes in. Circuit City has a killer price on the 73734 this weekend

Got the 57833 today. The price was just OK, but got a sweet deal on the BDI Avion 8529 with the TV. Getting it delivered tomorrow, will post some pics.

I purchased the 65833 today at BB, will be at the store on Tueday. what I really need to know are the dimentions of the BOX!! It might not fit in my SUV. Can someone please please list it, if not I will have to wait longer for BB to deliver it to the house, and that would be a crying shame.

hey ya - let the buyer beware - if you buy from a gray market dealer (aka or anyone not approved by mitsubishi - you have ZERO rights for any warranty service from mitsu - the selling dealer might offer you some kind of in store warranty but normally those are worth about a hill of beans. This is not an insignificant purchase and given a light engine can cost $1000 to repair will the $300 you saved really feel all that sweet? Go with the namebrand store and enjoy peace of mind...

As for the differences.... plenty of threads about those - if you watch alot of sports I would go with the 833 to get the 120hz. I saw one over at the birdy place and it looked pretty darn amazing (on sale also) - shame I wont do business with them - BB price matched it and go to pick it up on Thursday.

I would agree with upinsmoke about not buying a set for this much money off ebay. It would be one thing if you could get one used at a huge discount, but that probably wont be happening with how new this thing is. I got mine from the birdy store (as they had it on sale and offered 12mo no interest financing - I think Mits is offering no interest/no payments until 2009 right now but I didn't want to open another credit card). BTW, I'm really hoping this thing fits in the back of a Honda Ridgeline or else I will have to wait and have the store deliver it. Also with upinsmoke I would recommend the 833 if you plan on connecting it to an HD-DVD/BR player to get the 24 fps without having to deal with 3:2 pulldown. I think it would be a shame to save money and go with the 734 if you plan on watching a lot of HD movies due to motion judder. Might as well save the bit more and do it right (IMO).

The different beween the 733 and 833? Here are some that 833 has over 733, high gross look-anti glare screen-4 HDMI hook up's-120Hz-PerfecTint-DarkDetailer-PIP-cable card hook up, and some others

I didnt notice any fan noise on the unit I saw (or from any of the sets in there). You have to remember NONE of the brands are going to buy uber fans to put in these sets. You can buy a replacement fan of the same size from any of the computer dealers online that will move more air with a fraction of the fan noise. Just need a handy dandy screwdriver is all.

Hello all. This is 1 of the TV brands I'm considering and from what I've read so far this is an awesome television with little to complain about. A few questions about this television. Is the stand the store recommended you use with this television able to acommodate a center channel of considerable size? I'm asking because along with an upgrade in television I'm considering a system upgrade as well. Have any of you compared PQ with other DLP's? Is the 6 color wheel really better than 3 color? I assume it would be but I'd like personal testimonies. A 73" will do me just fine because I'll be about 15' away and I'd like to experience HDDVD/BR at home. Current TV is 53" Panasonic CRT RPTV with DVI, but currently using component. Lastly, are these TVs in the Diamond series (top of the line)?

Don't know what stand you would be talking about, as don't know what store you would be talking about, but would have a lot to do with what all you will be putting on the stand Yes ,have compared PQ with other DLP's(Sam's ,Tosh's etc)and think the 833 has the best PQ, Yes the 6 color wheel really is better! Yes, the 833 is the Diamond series, there is no 834, if you mean the 734? no it's not a diamond , it's the next step down.

actually, the 833 does not have cablecard either. I don't know why, but it appears Mits took it away in the new models.

btw, 733/831=last year's medallion/diamond, 734/833=this year's medallion/diamond.

is it the fan that's making the noise or the color wheel?

what kind of fan does it use? like a standard PC 120mm fan? I'd be surprised.

I saw the 73833 diamond Mits today.

On a 1080p source with smooth120Hz it was not easy for me distinguish from the 733 and the 833. They didnt have the 734 and I was looking at 3 73" ina row,

733, 833, and the 831 on the right.

Would have been nice to see the 65" but none to be seen. The dealer in my town focuses on Plasma, and LCD high end stuff. Very few DLPs, on display.

***Remember when you are demoing that smooth120 is turned off by default on at least the 73833. Not sure about the 65833, Make sure you go into

Global to enable/diabled Smooth120Hz

I like the 73" but its a grand more.

Im coming from a 65311 CRT that bit the dust under warranty

I've decided to purchase either this tv or the 60A3000 from Sony. Anyone here with opinions on which is better? Of course, aside from the price being higher for the Mitsu, of course with 5 more inches, what else should I be looking at when I decide on which to purchase?

what is the RS-232C port on the 65833, and does this Tv have a way to hook up VGA?

Is it possibe to hook a PC up to this tv thru VGA, if not, is it possible to hook a PC up to it at all

Got my 73833 yesterday. Changed some settings on it to tone down the brightness. Will do some evaluations this week. Just started vacation for the next 10 days.

Am I supposed to remove the two round side panels. It would seem wierd that you would have two big holes on the side of the tv for bugs to get inside the tv. These holes are about 5 inches round.

On the noise question! My tv is very quiet. About the same as my 2005 sony sxrd that this tv si replacing in my main room.

actually i don't see vga in the diagram.

you can use a dvi->hdmi cable, or use component if your video card has component out. some newer cards even have hdmi out.

I have had my 65833 for a few days now and there is no whinnig at all. I even sat behind my tv and listened for any sound at all and there is none. So it seems that there are some sets that have it and others that do not.

Was told by Mit service tech (and have heared samething from 2 others so far ) this issue has been resolved , and if you do get one with loud humming( nosie) it can be fix in your home.
