It doesn't have anything to do with the bulb. The problem with the blobs is they are often difficult to see in the daytime so if your tech can't see them he might not do anything about it. Luckily this tech knows me from the past and knows I'm not an idiot so believed me. With the first light engine some of the blobs that developed later were brighter so they were easier to see even in daylight. He was finally able to see them the last time he was over (but he did have to make several trips as when he first contacted Mitsubishi about this I don't think they were aware of the problem yet. It became apparent as time passed they were getting calls about it). They are definitely most noticeable as Wryker said. My concern is as the blobs develop over time who knows how many will develop and how bad they will get. By the time the 1st light engine was replaced they were much more noticeable while watching movies, not just during cooling down. Also, if you are watching a movie in letterbox and the blobs are in that area as mine were, you'll see them throughout the movie. Bottom line, the blobs shouldn't be there and Mitsubishi needs to address this.
OK so I have these blobs. I also had the problem with the popping sound. The Geek Squad tech came to my house and told me I had a bad HDMI board. I also complained about the blobs and he said he ran the set through computerized black levels and could not reproduce it. I tried to explain to him that you could not see it when there was a lot of ambient light. He blew me off. So he ordered my new board and came back to install it 6 WEEKS LATER. I again brought up the subject of the blobs and he said, "look, I am not going to install this board. You are going to have to have the main tech do it". I could not believe it. It wasn't like I was being an a**hole or anything. Then he said, you know what... I am just going to tell Mitsubishi to authorize a replacement. Then he packed up and left.
So I have a replacement authorization but of course there are no more 833's. In fact, Best Buy has to special order the 65835 for a replacement. So now I am curios about what improvements or changes have been made to the 835. Does anyone suggest trying to get them to replace it with a completely different set?
