Opus: Try switching HDMI cables and then go through the assignment process again. If that doesn't do anything, then switch the inputs between the source components.

It's not the cool down sounds.

Check and see if the timer light in the front right of the set also starts flashing on and off after the clicking sound.

I'll keep an eye out. It doesn't do it all the time.

I've had a 73833 for a couple of years almost. Overall i love it, but the screen sags in the center which causes the image to be distorted. this is especially noticeable with vertical lines that are supposed be straight. Instead, they are always concave.

I've been living with this since the beginning, but over time it's really getting to me. It's out of warranty but I bought the Best Buy 4 yr extended warranty. Wondering if anyone has any experience trying to get the unit fixed or replaced through this warranty at Best Buy? I've been debating if I should do something about it, or just keep living with it.

This is defifnely a defect and should be corrected,
especially if it's getting to you. I would not
neglect it. You deserve the best prformance
possible out the set you paid for. Get BB to come
out and fix it for you.

If BB gives you a hard time and you're a DIY kind
of person, be aware that removing the screen is
not a very difficult job, but requirs two people (or
one person with two very long arms :-) ) for the
final removal stage. Once off the TV, you can see
whether the screen is distorted (in which case it
shouild be replaced) or just curved due to incorrect
mounting (in which case it can be remounted
corectly). If you have the service manual, see
page 21 for details.

Good luck,

Thanks for the reply. I think it is a defect, but I've also read and seen that pretty much all DLPs have some geometry issues. When I bough the TV, I was actually replacing another brand DLP that also had geometry issues. When they brought in the TV, this one had it as well. So I gave it another try and BB brought in another one, and it was actually worse. So I kept the first one and went to the store and checked out several DLPs, including the one I bought, on display and I noticed they too had geometry issues, so at the time I figured I would just live with it because they all seem to have some issue with distortion. And since there wasn't really an alternative to DLP for a TV that large without paying $15,000, I chose to just live with it, but in the back of my mind, when I'm watching TV or playing Xbox, I know it's there and it annoys me. It's especially bad if you look at the image from an angle. Fortuantely where I sit, it's dead on with the screen. I know I could have gone with projection, but I didn't want to go that route.

So anyway, I dunno... I probably will call BB to come look at it. My problem is, I have sit there and convince someone that it is a defect, then deal with them taking apart my TV, perhaps ordering another screen, hoping that it doesn't come in with some other kind of defect, watch them take my tv apart again, only to see he same thing.

I've been through that before, and it's very frustrating throughout the whole process. So much so, I sort of think that just dealing with it is the way to go. Maybe I'll wait, since it's a 4 yr warranty, and do something about it a year or two from now closer to the warranty expire date... then if they can't do anything about it, maybe they can replace it with a new one.?? I've heard they will do that if the TV can't be fixed... anyone else hear that?

After a bit of trouble, in the end BB came through and "Lemoned" my old Sony XS. I wound up with the Mits 65833 and it's been a much better performer. My screen is (for now) flat and true using test patterns. I would not hesitate calling BB and getting a tech out there. Have some demo DVDs /BluRays ready to show bent lines. That is not acceptable and should be fixed. Keep note of how many attempts it takes and read that warranty. If needed they will return your money as a gift card credit for you to buy something else. I was able to go from a dodgy 60" 720P to the 65" Mits as prices keep dropping. Over all I wished the Sony just worked but I was glad to get rid of the headache.

I also have a WD-73833 and do not have a curved
screen. A defective screen is not a preordained act
of God.

As to whether to go through the hassle of having it
fixed, that's your call. Personally, I would not accept
a defective TV, but to each his own.

Good luck,

I have a 73833 for sale since I had the infamous 'blobs' on it: they changed out the light assembly THREE times and the last one worked but no longer could the geometry settings be adjusted for the 4:3 box. So Mitsy sent me a brand new 73835 that is awesome - but the geometry settings still won't 'save' but i had it professionally calibrated so i'm very satisfied with it.

HI..I've had the set for about a year now, one problem so far. lamp was replaced with less than 6 months on it. And now the blue accent lights aren't working, I know some people hate them and others may like them..I lean towards liking them. So my question, how can I check to see if by some unforeseen reason, they were disabled or not? And are these bulbs that can be replaced and how? And one last, how can I find out if the 120mhz is on or off. I never have a whole lot of time to mess with the set like I want and wondering if someone could help me out. I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Press the "Menu" button on your remote. Select the second item from the top called "AV". Use the right arrow to move over to the "Global" settings. Smooth 120 Hz is either "On" or "Off". You have 3 choices for "Blue Glow" but I use the "On if TV on" choice. I hope that helps.

Yeah I knew it'd be something stupid or easy. I looked in it but just scanned real fast. Thanks for the help. It's all better now. What's the deal with the 120 thing being defaulted off? If they advertise that it uses it, you'd think it be used. Just my opinion. I'd gladly accept any other tips to keep on top of my game so to speak.
Thanks again.

So my TV has just developed a problem with having a green screen and/or having issues powering up. Worked perfectly everyday until now. Any ideas?

Are you serious??????

My car just developed a problem. It won't
start. Or, when it starts, it doesn't go. Or,
when it goes, it doesn't stop. It always ran
okay before. What's wrong?

Sound like you might need a service call (that was obvious, right?). Are you under an Extended Warranty? I hope so..... Sounds like it could be light engine "related" i.e. an expensive part. Obviously something important broke. Be prepared to wash your hands of the set if you have no coverage. Make sure you can get an estimate, maybe a free one hopefully. The problem with all these newer technology sets, they're expensive to fix, especially the "big" stuff and the prices of new is falling like a rock. If the repair is over or near 50% of new, you have to make a decision as to which way to go. You obviously can't carry this puppy in so it's home service. Good luck!

Using your Mits remote, press menu, then enter the numbers-2-4-7-0. You will see a four digit display on the bottom of the screen. This is the lamp hour indicator.

Thanks. It sez 5559. I know everyone's is a little different, but APPROXIMATELY does anyone have a guess as to how much time I might have left? I've had the lamp on the lower, energy saving setting since I bought it in Sep. 07.

I have heard the lamp lasts 8000 hours to half
brightness. This number did not come from
Osram or mitsubishi, so take it with a grain of
salt.

Personally, if my lamp was that used, I'd certainly
buy a replacement, just in case. Actually, I did that
at 2500 hours. I bought a bare lamp, without the
housing, for $135. Because the it came with only 6
month warranty, I installed it and stored the old one
away. I'll swap them after 6 months.

Any and all recommendations for where to buy a lamp for a Mitsu wd-65833 at a competitive price please do so...

I cruised the 'net and ordered the lowest cost
lamp ($135) that came with the longest warranty
(6 months) and was already machined to fit the
Mitsubishi housing. I found it on ebay.

If you don't trust yourself to remove and replace
the bare lamp into the housing, you can buy a
complete housing assembly (Mitsubishi P/N
915P061010) for roughly twice that much.

I have an 18-month old 65833, which has been working flawlessly.
For the first time ever, when I turned it off last night, there seemed to be
a white flash from the back of the set, while the green panel light definitely blinked
more rapidly than usual. Three subsequent power on/offs have been normal,
with no repeat problems and no video degradation. Was this a fluke, or a sign of things to come?
I also have an 833 that is a couple of months older than yours and over the time I've had it, several seeming anomolies have occurred. Hopefully that is what you have experienced. I believe there is a trouble code system built into the tv that involves pressing the input and menu buttoms on the front panel of the tv at the same time while the set is switched off. I've never tried that so I don't know what is displayed. That might be worth researching.

For the last 3 days a fly has been inside the tv. I don't know what to do and don't think Best Buy's warranty covers that. Any suggestions?

I'd be really surprised since there's nothing 'wrong' with the TV itself...won't hurt to call them though!
