Erik-
did they ever replace the ballast on this? Seems like that has always been the problem with the noise issue..

Nope, we never even got that far. The tech was only able to diagnose the noise on his second visit. The first visit was me sheepishly saying that my set no longer turned on. The second time he came with the main board and once the set was back up and running he listened to it. Said it was definitely in the neighborhood of the lamp/color wheel (i.e. NOT the light engine or the fan, then). Suppose it could've been the ballast too.

But the noise issue was totally secondary to the HDMI issue, and since there was no clear fix for that I just stopped all further troubleshooting.

Very few available colors, and no blending whatsoever. Everything chunky and pixelated. Grossness all around.

That is probably color banding caused by not copying the engine timing data to the new main pwb.

Well I just purchased the 65833 today from Totons TV in Joliet, IL..not only did they give it to me for several hundred less than BB/Magnolia would have sold it to me ,but they also had the 5yr warranty FREE with a 1 year lamp replacement, which I will triple going with a Mack Warranty (at the Philip price I hope)...I really wanted to go with 73" but I was stretching my budge, I almost was going to buy the 73734 but even that pushed it out of my way...Glad I bought locally and FREE DELIVERY...I have also got the matching stand but not sure if Im going to keep it - as my audio equipment requires more depth to it, if I can get my amp and receiver to slip through on the sides..then Im golden..if not not sure what to get..

all in all..It looks like I saved 400 on the warranty if I bought through the big stores..then about another $200 on the set itself..

so without adding to Free delivery since some of them do offer that..$600 savings to go with the DIAMOND...instead of the 734 - which was fine also - just picky on the looks..

I am going to be buying this tv within the next month or so, unfortunately I do not have a local dealer that caries this. I am stuck with an online carrier. I see people on these forums talking about returning sets from online shops. Are all of those who return taking the 20%hit on restocking plus paying all shipping costs that all online retailers seem to charge? If there is a problem with the tv are you at the mercy of mits customer service to come fix it, and if you are will they repair new tv's free of charge. I am probably worried for nothing I know I am not as nit-picky as many of the people here, I dont own a five thousand dollar stereo or anything I just want a 1080P tv that my PS3 and 360 will look great on and sound great with my $600 onkyo stereo, thanks for any help

Procedure to program the remote for special direct access functions:

1. Set the Device Select Switch at the top to the TV position.

2. Press and hold the POWER key until it flashes twice, then release the POWER key.

3. Enter in sequence the code number 0,0,0,9,0. The POWER key will flash twice after the first 0 and then flash twice again after the final 0 to confirm a successful code entry.

The following keys will change functions:
POWER - Power ON only.
STOP - Power OFF only.

INPUT followed by 1 - INPUT-1
INPUT followed by 2 - INPUT-2
INPUT followed by 3 - INPUT-3
INPUT followed by 4 - HDMI 2
INPUT followed by 5 - COMPONENT-1
INPUT followed by 6 - COMPONENT-2
INPUT followed by 7 - COMPONENT-3
INPUT followed by 8 - ANT 2
INPUT followed by 9 - ANT 1
INPUT followed by F1 - HDMI 1
INPUT followed by F2 - HDMI 2
INPUT followed by F3- HDMI 3
INPUT followed by F4-HDMI 4

FORMAT followed by 1 - STANDARD screen format
FORMAT followed by 2 - EXPAND screen format
FORMAT followed by 3 - ZOOM screen format
FORMAT followed by 4 - STRETCH screen format
FORMAT followed by 5 - STRETCH PLUS screen format
FORMAT followed by 6 - NARROW screen format
FORMAT followed by 7 - WIDE EXPAND screen format

IMPORTANT: When using this remote control as an original source remote control to program a "learning" remote control or Home Automation control system, the INPUT and FORMAT keys do not send signals. These buttons are simply used as a "switch" function to prepare the remote control to send the correct input or format signal when the number key or other specified key is pressed.

IMPORTANT: This remote control was included with TVs that had Auto Input Sensing. Direct access to inputs that have not been connected and added to the active input list is not possible.

Procedure to return the remote control to normal consumer functions:

1. Set the Device Select Switch at the top to the TV position.

2. Press and hold the POWER key until it flashes twice, then release the POWER key.

3. Enter in sequence the code number 0,0,9,3,5. The POWER key will flash twice after the first 0 and then flash twice again after the final 5 to confirm a successful code entry.

Had my 73833 for about 3 weeks. Only home comparison is a Pioneer 4360 hanging on a wall in a different room, but I've noticed that the sound coming from the Mits is "muddled", especially compared to the sound coming from the Pioneer (that has external speakers attached to either side of the set whereas the Mits has built-in speakers). At first I thought it was just my "old ears" but when the rest of my family occasionally asked to rewind and repeat a segment we'd just watched I knew it wasn't my imagination. It's most noticeable with dialogue but now that I've been paying more attention it's really consistent.
Anyone else notice this with any of the Mits models (new or old)? Or is this a common occurrence with large sets (of any brand) that have built-in speakers?
Thanks for any responses.

I have called Crutchfield to set up an exchange, but after reading about cleanings covered under warranty, I'm wondering if should just have a tech come in and try to clean it first.
My question to you guys is: How much of a problem is cleaning the screen? My understanding is that there are different layers to the screen and that it is a hassle to remove them to get between the layers to clean them. Also, because it is brand new, I'm not sure I want a stranger opening the back of my television already.
I'm having the same geometric problem as everyone else. I'm also seeing the ray of light in the lower center of the screen when viewing in the dark (as someone else has already noted). However, this looks like possibly a normal mechanical thing. It is just too precise to be a smudge or a flaw. The good news is the TV is pretty quiet. That is the main reason I'm reluctant to return this one for another. I'm concerned about picking up one that makes alot of noise. Suggetions anyone?
Thanks!

Hawgfin, let me know what you ended up doing about this. I think I jinxed myself when I said I had no issues. Watching a scene last night in the Arctic, I also noticed a slight smudge. I was wondering what you ended up doing about this. Mine is on the other side of the screen. Tried cleaning it initially to no avail. Thanks.

Perhaps, it may be wise to wait. The Sammy may have an LED lamp on their 72" line and the Mit will probably will be improved also. What do you guys think?? Thanks..

I would anticipate you'll find they most likely have DarkChip 4 from TI on the next generation models. TI was demo'ing D4 at CEDIA and for DLP I would expect to be the big news at CES 2008 and next gen DLP's and I would expect upsizing with LED since they need that advantage for market share versus flat panel - otherwise they may as well give it up to FP's within two years LCD's will be upsized and made much thinner and lighter with reduced costs/prices.

The only problem is that the TVs(LCD flat panel & rear projection TVs) I saw at CES, Jan. 2007 just started hitting the streets in the last month or two. So... it's going to be a long wait for next years models.

Anyway... I've had my 57833 for two weeks now.

My only issues are:

Fan Noise:
It's there, somewhat ok for now, but over time fans generally get louder as their bearings wear, and
that could be a problem. A arbitrary one that a warranty service guy may consider frivolous.
Heat:
This thing cranks out the HEAT! Lots of HEAT!
Black Crush:
In dark scenes there seems to be a total lack of any grey scale.
TV Guide:
Haven't been able to get it working. And the manuals are very vague.

Other than the above, this TV rocks! HD footballs is amazing.
The factory settings work for me, skin tone has been spot-on!
Can't wait to get a Blu-Ray player and see what 1080p looks like.

Why would you think this? The inputs/outputs has nothing to do with features like PerfectColor/Tint, why would any make/model give you 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs and try to lock you out ?
So yes, HDMI works with PerfecColor/Tint!

Except for one possibility - There is no tint control for component/HDMI inputs. Only NTSC composite inputs including S-video will have tint controls.

Again, you can used PerfecTint on all inputs, be it HDMI, Component or S-video. These features are on the set itself not what inputs you used!

I took a few pictures of the tv with the stand and a few shots from tonights Cubs game/Discovery and my 360. First, the shots of the tv in action do not do it justice. They are slightly blurred as I was in a rush and was holding my camera with my elbows propping it up on the couch. A tripod would've produced significantly better results (shutter speed at about 1/13 of a second - so really slow and I'm sure the camera moved slightly while the shutter was open). The set also seems kinda dark in a few of the shots, but that is because the scenes were darker and the shots slightly underexposed (would've kept the shutter open longer but the pics would've been super blurry).

Few quick notes: I am 6' even to give you an idea of the size of the set (TV stand is Mits MB-65GB which fits perfectly). The tv is not bowed like it looks on the Cubs picture, just the lens and the angle of the camera (look at the picture with me in it - the ceiling is not that messed up, it is perfectly level - I just zoomed in a bunch to avoid having to crop the image). And the shot of the Lord of the Rings is a standard DVD, not upconverted. This looked good from a distance, but at about 8' back you can clearly see the lack of detail. Hopefully this helps a little bit.

did the mb-65gb have any issues with the wd-65833? i noticed the 833 series in lower
from the base to the bottom of bezel. also how's the color match. I saw that base in cc and the color looked a little lighter than true black? i have had a hard time finding a stand to fit a/v my equipment. how much space from stand's top to tv bottom bezel?
I also have been looking at stand that are not too high. hows the height of the tv's screen? thanks!!!!

I can't get the TV guide to work either. I've only tried a couple of times, but have had the tv for 3 weeks. I can see the possibility of fan issues down the line, but I don't have buyers remorse at all. The TV is great. Football looks amazing. I watched the Lord of the Ring The Two Towers (extended version) the other night with the kids and that looked amazing as well. I look forward to an HD source other then satelite when I purchase one.

Well got my WD-65833 TV replaced yesterday. The only issue I had was that it appeared like their was a little speck of dust on the actual chip on the mirror causing like a little pixel to glow white. Other than that, my first TV worked great.Excellent picture quality no fan noise at all and no geometry issues either. I set the TV back up yesterday and no complaints at all. The picture quality is out of this world. I have the Toshiba HD-A20 and XBox 360 via HDMI and the 1080 looks great. I know many people buy from the internet but I am fortunate that I have a Sound Advice store down the street. I got the TV much cheaper than Best Buy and any Internet price I found. The nice thing was that no questions asked just swapped out the TV as my salesman told me you have to be happy with the set and we will do whatever it takes to continue with our customer satisfaction. I am having a custom stand made should be ready in two weeks will post pictures when it finished and all set up.

Attached picture shows reset condition for each AV item. You can clearly see that it shows tint, perfect color, perfect tint available for all inputs.

Maybe PerfecTint is more of a CMS system rather than the phase adjustment control common in NTSC decoders.

One more time, on all newer Mit sets, you can used the Color, Tint, PerfecColor/Tint and Pic adjustments on all inputs, be it HDMI, Component, S-video etc. and can also set these adjustments up different with each unit you used, DVD player, 360 etc.
