For $150 price difference is the Samsung Ln-t3242h better than a Vizio VX32L?

Want to buy soon for my bedroom and the price difference is $150. There is a ton of people who have the Sammy 3253h but what about the 3242h vs. the Vizio. Is the Sammy worth $150 more? Then there is the Toshiba 32hl67 that is the same price as the Samsung 3242h

but is the 3242h the bargain basement of the samsung 32's compared to the 3253h or is it still s decent set?

See them with your own eyes. That's really the only thing that really matters. How you see the picture.

I too am asking the same question, my friend has the vx32l and while impressive the blacks leave much to be desired. I would assume this has dramatically better blacks.

As we all know comparing in store is just nearly impossible. Someone please help.

I don't know if the LN-T3242H has Wiselink or capable of viewing JPGs. One way to test, although not perfect, but probably 70% accurate is to put a few nicely contrasted high resolution JPGs on a USB flash drive. Take it to the store plug it in and look at the JPG. See if the Black is to your liking.

For the LN-T4065F I plug it in, go to Wiselink and it detects the USB drive (FAT32 PQI 1GB USB Flash), click it with and it shows JPGs in a slide show. You can even configure background music Down side is it only allows you to use the default picture modes - Dynamic, Normal and Movie without letting you calibrate the settings. But like I said, not 100% but gives you a fairly good idea to compare with.

I feel the same way too, is there any real large advantage to the 53? It's like $250 more and all I see is an 8000:1 CR vs 7000:1 (is it just more dynamic or is there a way better panel in there) better viewing angle 170 vs 178 (is it really that big of deal?) and a cooler looking case.
Am I missing something?

Before too many get led astray, that article seriously misrepresents Vizio. It has been discussed here....

Here is a link to the extended warranty plan for a Vizio VX32L.

https://merchant.satisfusion.com/sf/.../ESCLookup.jsp

Disposable? Not really. First year of warranty is in home. You can buy 5 years of in home warranty for about the same price as the difference between the Sammy and the Vizio.

Edit: You have to choose the model number and price paid yourself to see the prices.

Well let's say the price of the set's are almost equal as I don't have to pay tax on the samsung and *cough*10% coupon till the 31st*cough*. We are talking about $30 more. No one has yet to jump into this thread and shout all the greatness of samsung from the top of a hill...

If I do decide to get a vizio I will have to wait for them to update their line as their current 32in is old and has no seen that much of a price drop.

there is a whole thread (a fairly large one i might add) dedicated to the 42H/53H series and there is plenty of discussion on both sets. there is a reason why the thread is for both sets, because they are very similar. you probably couldn't even tell the difference in PQ between the two.

anyway, i have the 4042H and its great. there is a muting issue as well as tearing issues (on both the 42H and 53H), but all have been resolved on the latest firmware update.

Disposable Flat Panel HDTV, which one isn't ?

The price of flat panel HDTV is dropping at a rate of 25% to 35% or more a year, whatever you're buying today will loose more than 50% in value after 2 years, that is for a new equivalent HDTV set. Your used 2 years old set will retain no more than 50% of the new 2009 set, that means your old TV will retain no more than 20-25% of what you're paying today. If it ever broke after 2 years, chance is that it will cost you more to fix it than buy a used but in good working condition set, or for a little more than repair cost you can buy a brand new set which will be around 40% to 50% of what you're paying today.

I'm talking about 2 years old for a simple reason, buying a TV with gold or platinum credit card gives me 1 extra year warranty from credit card issuer. Buying a TV from Costco with Am Ex you will get 3 years warranty, 1st year from manufacture, 2nd year from Costco and 3rd year from Am Ex. The value of $1000 TV today will be almost nothing after 3 years as a used set, if it still work then keep it, if not then throw it away and buy a similar size TV for no more than the 4 years extended warranty cost you today.

That why I don't think buying extended warranty is a wise choice and buying top tier brands that have better failure rates but cost more is a good idea either. Buying top tier brands for the Picture Quality and extra functions is another story.

I'm going to check out the 3242h today and buy it if it looks decent. It's down to $750 at brick and mortar so that isn't so bad.

does anyone have any thoughts on the Panasonic 32LX70? It's on sale for a great price and is $50 cheaper than the Samsung...

I bought the Toshiba 32HL67 for about that price a week ago at a B&M store. I'm glad I made that decision. I was too debating whether to get the samsung 3242H or the toshiba. I read about all these tearing problems with the samsung on its thread so I didn't want to deal with that. Plus, the toshiba 32HL67 was on sale at a price that was much lower than the samsung so that pretty much made my decision. I read bout threads about a green push with toshibas but it seems like it affects a different model. I don't see anything wrong with my set. I've been very satisfied with the toshiba. I like style of the toshiba more also cause it does not have too much gloss like the samsung. Toshiba also seems to have a sturdier stand. You should check it out at a store if you haven't seen it. I did about 3 months of research until I bought my first HDTV and I'm very happy with my choice. I wish you luck!

No, the 3242H is not bargain basement at all. It's not like the Bravia 32M3000, I think Samsung's bargain basement is the one at walmart with the 5000:1 CR. I'd like to think of the 3242H like the Sony 32S3000, more of like their "official" introductory tv. The 3252H is more like the 32" XBR of Sony's, but that's just my opinion. The 3242H is an outstanding tv, it scored the same as the Sony 32S3000 on consumer report.

Go with the Panasonic Lx70...its the better TV with less issues...just not as stylish.
