Rock Band: The Next Great Franchise - Page 53

i sit at an angle with my legs facing the red pad and keep the foot pedal on the kit. i also can rest my right arm on my leg that way if i'm in a slower song.
as for the seat, i was sitting on my theater seat, until i started getting shin splints! so i got out an old folding chair and use it. perfect height, great feel, i can put my other foot against the leg for leverage and can put it aside easily.

and i'm still giggling thinking about max wienberg now. after every song now i'm going to put both sticks in one hand and pretend i'm pointing to conan!

Yes there is for the endless setlist. You also get the platinum instrument icon if you beat it on expert (my two sons 5starred all but RTTH on Drums/Guitar).

I sit on the couch and the coffee table in front of the kit. I usually hold the kit with my left foot..just habit I guess.

I usually play split screen so I can watch a movie while I'm playing and on the impossible songs I'll usually use 2 sticks for these songs.

Tempting... very tempting...

Just the fact that I find the thought of dual pedals (which would run more than the cost of the freaking Rock Band bundle!) makes me realize what a sucker I am for this game now.

Still, it looks nice, and I could definitely see picking [i]one[/] up, although I would want to wait for reviews first...

Hell yeah! Im in for the new pedal...maybe 2 and the dual rocker! $200 is hot though!

Have you guys seen the kick drum pedal mods on some of the other forums? Basically you get an alarm sensor and wire it up to a 1/8" min plug. Put the 2 parts on an existing drum pedal (plus a plywood target or actual kick drum practice pad) and you're all set to go. The pedal on the Omega website looks like a Pearl Powershifter which can be had for ~$50 on Amazon (sans mods) so their price looks pretty decent.

OK, I've been having trouble strumming on the guitar... I'm 1/2 way through hard, and have 5-starred all the medium songs -except- the Police's "Next to You", primarily due to strumming consistency problems. I've hit 100% of the notes and still got 4 stars on this song. Something is clearly double-registering because I am getting a low "note streak" count (power ups and 1/2/4x counters keep resetting, "miss" sounds play in-song, etc.). If I down-strum only I get more consistency but end up missing some (to many) of the notes.

How does everyone strum the fast stuff? For short bursts I can down-strum without any problems... it's just down-strumming for 3+ minutes constantly. Any tips for down-up strumming? Practice mode is worthless because it tells me I'm hitting 100% every time. I've tried a tight grip on the strum bar as well as a completely open grip (flicking it in each direction). The open grip is a bit better but still has misregistering problems.

Looking forward to everyone's advice...

A dumb question: Have they fixed the guitar incompatibility between GHIII and Rock Band yet (on PS3)? I see that some 3rd party guitars are coming out soon to solve this problem but wondered if the stock guitars work...

No, nothing is new on the patch front.

Although, my preorder at amazon still says "will be shipped 3/25/08", the The Nyko site reads "Coming in April" and Gamestop reports "prerelease: ships 4/21.

As I was advised on the rockband forum, amazon has probably been slow to update their ETA and the April dates are probably more accurate. The retailers should all get them at the same time, right?

I guess the delay is due to more Harmonix/Activision/Sony politics.

Nice! I am going to have to try that out. I haven't played the drums in a few days just because my leg aches.

Nice pedal. I'll be grabbing one of these once the wallet has healed from buying 3 games next week.

I am only a medium guitarist but I have a similar problem with this song and others like it ('go with the flow' also comes to mind). For me, it sometimes helps on these passages to hit every other note harder than the other and alt-strum .... ie RED-DOWN, red-up, RED-DOWN, red-up etc, kind of like emphasizing the beat. this tends to break down on a long passage or at a fast tempo but this could be 'operator error' (though I am a pianist and also an advanced DDR player who feels I have a pretty good sense of rhythm?)

Still would like to hear how other ppl have worked thru/around this....

The only way I got past the issue with long streaks of consecutive notes was to buy the strum fix switch I posted earlier in this thread. Was at my band mates house over the weekend and he has a 360, now I need to order one for his guitar as well it makes a huge difference.
Hey, I have a question... does anyone else have about a 1/4 second delay in their microphone? I've tried some different settings such as turning Dolby Digital on and off but they don't make a difference. It's quite irritating.

So, how many of you are going to be getting the Trash pack this week?

I go as far as Heavy Metal, but that whole Death/Power/Speed/Thrash Metal stuff is just too much for me. Never saw the appeal of it.
so when is the extra PS3 guitar finally available for retail purchase?

I'll likely pick it up. There's very little that I probably won't buy via DLC. Though I think I'll pass on messege in a bottle. It was just about one of the most boring songs in GH2.

Yes, but could you drum in GH2? I'm very much looking forward to Simple Man/Message In A Bottle/Bad Company, assuming it does come out (likely but not 100%).

Regarding the Thrash pack: not a fan, but I'm happy for those who wanted it, and (to be truthful) happy it will be out of the way.

+1 and +1.

I actually liked "Message in a Bottle" quite a bit on GH2. The drum track will be interesting. And like most Police songs it will be quite brutal on the vocals. I wonder if Harmonix is going to recycle the guitar notechart or if they'll tweak it in any way.

I hope they are prepared for an influx of returned guitars because of broken strummers after this song.

Evile - Thrasher
Hello All,

We wanted to drop in and let every one know about our new strummer solution for the Rock Band Guitars. We have tried to make it as Installation friendly as possible. No wires need to be cut. Currently it is compatible with Generation 1, 3, and 3.1 Strum Bar Hardware. But Generation 2 and 4 are not far behind. See our site OR email us for questions regarding compatibility. Generation 1 is the one which everyone has been returning the most. Our solution clicks big and loud just like the old guitars because it uses the same switches. We think those little click switches have proven their endurance. Plus we believe Rock Band should be cranked to the point where you just hear a faint click anyway

The Kit is very non invasive and can be un-installed just as easy. With this upgrade ALL mush goes out the door and the Strum Bar returns to center just as good as the old guitars. Please give us a look.

Also check out our other products which offer RockBand Strat compatibility for Hero games on PS2 ONLY !!!

Thanks so much

Holy crap.
That was SICK!....I don't even know if I want to punish myself that badly.

Thrasher is the right name
^^ What in god's name was that!?!?!?!

How is even possible to strum these guitars that quickly?????? It'd be tough on an actual guitar!! And that first solo...Holy frick.

Yup, I'll be passing on this one.

I've always thought it weird with songs like this...how it would take so much effort and dedication...the craftsmanship really is impressive....and it still just sounds like...crap! Of course, there's gonna be someone who's gonna dump all over me for saying that. This is just what I imagine the insides of the those school shooters' brains to sound like. Scary stuff.
You know those hyper-fast strums aren't hard to do, so long as you can break them up from time to time, which this song appears to do.....flick real fast.

I'd awlays be blowing at least one strum on the start or finish of the note-string however.....

Its songs like some of the Iron Maiden ones however that I just constantly blow, and I still can't get Guitar Hero 2's "Bark at the Moon" strumming down right on hard or fast, its like ONE-TWO-THREE ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR or whatever :P

But yeah, this song will bust guitars fo' sho' :P
