Rock Band: The Next Great Franchise - Page 14

I just wanted to update my experience with RB. As I've said before, I've never played any GH games. In real life I play acoustic guitar and sing, and have lead bands.

When I got RB I didn't think I'd like the drums, because I figured I'd just suck too much. But they are SO MUCH fun! I admit that I'm only playing them on Easy right now, but the song difficulty progression during the Solo Tour really helped break me into drums easily, and I finished the Easy tour yesterday. Last night I got 99% on I Think I'm Paranoid -- missed 1 stinking note! I know most of you are much better at this than I am, but my point is that this game is a blast no matter what level you're at.

And my wife still loves playing guitar. This is turning out to be one of the best purchases I've ever made, in spite of the drum lag during fills issue I had (and sort-of resolved). Can't wait to get off work and play some more!

Glad that you are enjoying the drums, I am so into this game it's not even funny. I absolutely love when the crowd starts singing, it's a great addition and major kudos to Harmonix for adding it.

I am going to try to master the drums on expert for Enter Sandman, it's one of my favorite songs from a drum perspective.

update on my kick pedal return. EA let me know that there is a "delay" in shipping my kick pedal due to the holidays. And here I was all excited that i had a tracking number and everything. They advised me to keep checking UPS's site for updates.

Time to break out the duct tape.

Yeah, I RMA'ed my guitar off their site last night. Everything looked great and I got a tracking number. It was sometime today a friend told me did the same thing a week ago and his still hasn't shipped.

This game is outrageous fun, but I'm sending my guitar back. The Star Power/"Overdrive" is all borked up. It constantly activates by itself, and many times when I tip it up it does nothing. It doesn't matter if I do it slowly or violently.

I have a bad feeling about my drum kit as well. The red pad doesn't seem as sensitive as the others.

Thanks for the update. I'm all over the Black Sabbath tunes and the dec 18th stuff. You can never get enough Weezer and Radiohead. Thank God they put out something other than Creep. More Bends and OK Computer stuff PLEASE.

Where's all the Nirvana we were promised? I heard the entire Nevermind album would be available eventually.

what update? I posted that a few weeks ago. None of the full album DLC details have been disclosed. Who there by the who, nevermind and at least one metallica album are confirmed to be on the list(as well as 18 tracks from teh grateful dead). Other than that there's no details. The DLC schedule runs out after dec.18th the week after is Christmas so many assume thats when the album DLC starts. Others think we won't see any album DLC till next year. Hopefully they will elaborate soon.
Any idea what DLC will be available early next year? Tool or even some Sublime would be sweet.

Well i'm glad he "re-posted" it. I'm old and need constant reminding.

Metallica just announced a partnership with HMX. Their releasing their first single of the new album exclusively on rock band. Some quick research shows that their new album is being produced by uber-god producer rick rubin and they are going for a cross between "and justice for all" and the black album sound wise as well as recording in their classic key E.
I bet the metallica DLC pack sold through the roof.

here's something i came across in another forum for those who want to drum late night, without all the noise.

I hope the new album does lean towards this sound, because the past few albums have been a bit disappointing. I never remember seeing nevermind or a full metallica album confirmed by HMX.

They need to release a full album download for master of puppets and the black album. I am just dying to play Orion.
Hey you drummers out there, can you help a newbie? I know there's no such thing as "best way", but that's the only way I can think of wording this:

1) What's the best way to position my leg for the kick pedal? Should it be pretty-much perpendicular to the floor, i.e. my knee directly over by heel, or should my foot be more out in front? Or even behind a little?

2) Should I let the pedal come all the way back up, or only part-way? I know that when the kicks are in really quick succession I probably can't let it come all the way back up, but if I'm just kicking on the 1 and 3 beat (or whatever), should I let it come all the way back up?

3) Should I keep my heel on the ground while playing, or lift the whole leg up and down?

Any other tips would be appreciated!! Thanks!

I'm not a drummer but based on the feedback on the official forums your leg should be parallel with the floor. The pedal usually is more comfortable a foot or so away from you(so your leg should extend a bit while your femur stays parallel. and yes the idea is to res your foot on the pedal. It has a decent amount of push back. I can rest most all of the weight in my foot on the pedal without triggering it YMMV. But pulling your foot up off the pedal everytime will kill your shins. As for resting your heal that changes for me. I leave my heal down on most songs but lift it up for double bass hits(which start appearing more often on hard).

nevermind was mentioned in interviews though never discussed in press releases. and metallica themselves said they had given permission for an entire album. Grateful dead and who's there are confirmed though.

I really wish I could erase Load, Re-Load, and St. Anger from my memory. This would be sweet though, let's hope it's true.

Sounds promising but then again, ANYTHING would be better than St. Anger. If anyone can get them back to and justice for all, its Rubin.

Master of Puppets would be amazing. Not a bad song on that album. I'd pay $60 for that album alone to play it on RB.
I guess I'm one of the few who think Metallica have run their course. They were the absolute Gods of metal in the 80's.....and then were utterly ruined by sell-out king Bob Rock. Frankly, I can't imagine their new sound being anything more than "more suckage" as they try to re-make their earlier stuff to try to win back fans.

I know, I'm bitter

Master of Puppets is still, arguably, the best Thrash album ever made....tho I hesitate to call Metallica thrash, that is how they are usually classified.

I remember buying The Black Album on tape (the last cassette I bought, too!) and driving home listening going..."What...the...hell....have they...done...?"

PS: Drumming with a bass pedal (and I haven't unpacked my rock band yet to see how much resistance the pedal has) is usually personal preference. Most drummers play with the ball of their foot, at least the ones that I knew (and its what I did)....with the heel off the ground...that way your leg muscles work, not your ankle (quick death for your achillies tendon!) but it depends on the resistance of the pedal, really.
Thanks for the help on the bass pedal. I'm going to try lifting my heel off the ground and see how that works. My calf or shin or whatever has been getting pretty tired.

Definitely agree. I loved them through Justice. I didn't mind the Black Album. I picked up (and kept) Load and ReLoad for completeness sake (and there actually were a few songs from those I didn't think were terrible...don't hate me)...but I pulled over and threw away St. Anger on my way home from Best Buy after I bought it. I still have nightmares about that sometimes.

Is there any update on the status of the new album?

I had the same reaction about St. Anger. Not only the music was bad but the lyrics were a joke. I bought the album the day it came out and no matter how hard I tried, I never could listen to the whole album. It was just to dreadful.

If anyone's interested, I'm selling my PS3 Rock Band bundle. It's in fantastic condition, and I'm only looking for $170 for it. Just want my money back.

I live in the Chicago area. Message me if you're interested.

I wasn't a big fan of their later stuff myself (although I still think the Black Album is one of their best)...but honestly, you can't expect any self respecting musicians to keep playing/releasing the same album over and over and over for 26 friggin' years. That's even lamer than trying new stuff and bombing.

We should all be happy they're even still together. One of the best live shows you're likely to see.

Nice find Cysquatch! Actually it's awesome news! (Seems liken overall awesome day of news today.) I can't wait until we get to bring a bass player into the game. I feel I should go to Harmonix's website and just thank them for at least even giving me hope! My poor GH3 guitar has been sitting by itself, lonely, in the corner long enough! I guess I'll wait to sell it until I hear some more from Harmonix.

It also sounds like in that article that they've fixed the Rockband guitar's strum bar? Hm. I wonder what that is all about. Mine seems to work just fine. Occasionally I'll miss a note in long streams of notes, but I've recently set on a calibration combination that pretty much eliminates that.

My guitar does have a problem triggering the "star power" though. It pretty much just goes off when it wants to. At least in solo play, it does. I do know I've been able to "save" my wife on drums a few times when I've wanted. Oddly enough, pushing the "select" button on the gar triggers the "star power" every time.
