That worked for me up to a point but then I hit a wall on hard so I started expert and did alright and then when I hit a wall on expert I reverted back to hard and was able to move forward. I'm going back and forth until I can beat the game in expert drums.

Has anyone bought this with a new manufacturing run?

I'm not so worried about the bass pedal for the drum, there are many ways to work around that. But the downstrumming on the guitar is a huge issue for me. My GH3 Guitar sucks on the downstrums and makes the game completely unenjoyable. I don't want to repeat that experience especially at $150+, and I don't want to go through a multiple exchange process.

I started with Medium. In each city, I aimed first to get 4 stars for each song, skipping through any songs I didn't get 4 on. At the end of that city's song-list (5-6 songs, however many there are) I would then go back to any songs I didn't get 4 stars on.

Then I would move on to the next city's song list. And try and get 4 stars again.

After getting 4-stars on everything, I went back and tried for 5 stars, using the same process. I found that by the time you got to end of the cities, going back to the start for 5 stars made it seem a lot easier.

Repeat the process for moving up a level. (To hard in my case - where I'm currently half-way through for both guitar and drums.)

After beating career drums on expert, my son is now trying to Gold Star all the songs. Talk about a pain. Not only do you have to 5 star the song, you have to 5-star it AND reach a certain score.

Is there any indication of how many points you need?

And guys, are the smaller notes on guitar like the hammer-ons in GH? That's what they seem like to me, but the hammer-on/pull-offs are either much harder to do in RB or the smaller notes are not what I think they are.

In-game, no. There's the indicator for the stars themselves (the little star that starts out dim with a bar around it that fills as you near the score), but after you get 5 stars you just have to keep plowing on and suddenly you'll have 5 gold stars. Maybe Scorehero has listings for what is necessary.

The smaller notes are indeed the HO/PO notes. They're slightly harder to do than GH3, but still much easier than GH2.

Wow, GH3 hammerons must be stupidly easy. Of course, I can't even strum a long series of 1/8th notes, so maybe I shouldn't be talking about what's easy and what's not.

I'm another user with a non-springing whammy bar. I called and there was no option for it as a problem

Anyway, did what many others are doing and gave 'em my credit card and will get a new one and send back the old one.

Thinking about doing the real drum pedal mod...
That bass drum pedal mod looks sweet. I'm also a woodworker and have a full shop complement... I just might have to get out to the shop in the next couple of days and mod me a new pedal to avoid any breaking issues, which would also stiffen it to allow for a more robust spring like I'm used to.

No indication that we can see. He's gold starred around 25 songs on expert so far and it looks like you can maybe make one mistake but have to hit every overdrive passage. Example: He'd 5-star a song and get 124k but no gold 5-star. He do it again thinking the score needed was 125k. I can't tell you how many times he'd be 75% or more through a song, miss a note, and start over knowing that he wouldn't gold star it. I'm sure a score list will come out showing the required scores eventually.

And yes, the shorter notes are hammer-ons. As long as you strum the regular sized note before the HOs, you don't have to use the strum bar for the hammer ons/pull offs (just touch the fret buttons).

EDIT: Found this on the scorehero forums. Apparently there's some sort of formula. This is for 360 (couldn't find PS3 yet) but it gives you an idea

The cutoffs will be figured out by 5* cutoffs multiplied by 1.45. Submit either 5* cutoffs or gold star cutoffs to help.
for information on why it's multiplied by 1.45, see PeridotWeapon's post on page 2

In the event that an accurate cutoff isn't known but a close range containing the cutoff is known, the average of the upper and lower bounds will be multiplied by 1.45.

For example, Run to the Hills is between 200,000 and 205,000. The average of these numbers is 202,500. This number will be used as the 5* cutoff in calculations until a more accurate number is produced.

Scores in red are unconfirmed.
Scores in gold are confirmed.
Scores in orange are confirmed to within 100 points.
Numbers in italics are the spread between the lowest gold star score and the highest 5* (non-gold) score.

Speaking of drums. Check this prototype from ION audio that was shown at CES. I love the cymbals. I can't imagine this this selling for less than $150. My guess is at least $300.

The fine folks at Ion Audio are showing off a prototype Rock Band drum set complete with beefier drums and some cymbals out on the CES show floor. Apparently release is pending on customer interest, and there's no word on how much Ion's planning on charging, but we can say with much certainty that we'd jump at a chance to add this kit to the existing Engadget HQ collection of Rock Band paraphernalia.

I wish they would have made the yellow cymbal a high hat though... would that have made sense? Not on Run To the Hills, but most songs seem to be yellow=highhat.

My guess it's well above $300 though. This is the lowest end electronic kit I could find.

If Harmonix took the idea and fit into their drum kit style, I don't think it would cost too much more than what we have already. The cymbals appear to be "simple" drums pads without bases. What looks more expensive to me is the chrome hardware and fancier drum shells....which can obviously be scaled way back for the general consumer. It looks very cool, but it doesn't have to look that cool, when cost is a concern.

Here is a link of a video of a guy playing the drum kit for those that are interested.

http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archi...08/555720.aspx

I'd buy them, depending on cost - just for the adjustability of each drum. The U shape of the basic kit leaves positioning off for me a bit. The cymbals are up for debate - I like having the option of using the cymbal but think they could cut down on the number to get the cost down. I can't imagine this shipping below $200, which is where it would need to be to get a large volume of sales. So, in a nutshell, if they get the kit below $250, with higher quality, adjustible drums, and they are much quieter and realistic to play - I'm in like flinn baby...

What do you consider "new" manufacturing run? I bought this game on Dec 28th, and my guitar was still defective.

Got my replacement in Monday and swapped it. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet. But, the replacement fret buttons seems a lot better/clickier. Strum bar also feels a bit better than before.

I was surprised that they only wanted the guitar back, considering that the box containing the guitar head also included another RF receiver and guitar strap. Guess I gotta find another guitar online (one without the RF receiver or strap).

My brother-in-law (who has the 360 version) told me that, because they were having such a huge influx of guitar returns, that if you opted for the normal guitar swapping option there was a possibility that you'd be given any EA game from their library. He said something like, if it took over 2 weeks for you to get your replacement guitar (again, using the normal swap method and not the express), you could get any EA game from their library. Too bad he tells me this AFTER I already registered for the express replacement.

I love this new kit although I think it's a little over the top for my living room which is where I play.

So how would you know when to hit the blue cymbol or blue pad? I guess you really have to be familiar with the song. Typically, the green is always cybals right? It is a great concept and I always thought some third party might realease something like that, but I think they need to dumb it down a bit; three cymbols is a little much.

Given this kit's resemblance to a real one, theoretically couldn't you color-code a real drum set and play along to the song, anyone think that would work?

Good news from the compatibility front: A GHIII/RB compatible wireless guitar.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/01/09/...atible-guitar/

Quote:

Just weeks ago, it felt as if the stalemate between Activision and Harmonix would never end. Both companies blamed the other for the lack of compatibility between guitar peripherals for Rock Band and Guitar Hero III. Thankfully, Nyko has come to save the day as it recently announced that it would develop a guitar that's compatible with both games.

Coming in March, Nyko will make available the Front Man wireless guitar. The peripheral will feature a dongle with a switch that must be set for whichever game a budding guitarist is currently playing at the time. The guitar appears to have all the features that are present in the controllers offered by Activision and Harmonix but also promises up to 80 hours of continuous play time using three AA batteries.

We're pretty sure both companies will settle this silly argument at some point in the future, but it sure feels good to know a true solution is only weeks away.

I have the DD502 OSP digitial drum kit. It's a low end kit that I purchased last Christmas for around $400. Would be cool if some sort of usb adapter was made to interface with the PS3/game. Until then, I use the hi hat controller for the RB kick pedal. Works great and its all "metal".
