Connection Question For New XA2

Thread Starter
I am in the process of connecting my new XA2 ($499 at BB) but have a question regarding the audio connection. I do not want to blow anything up.

My pre/pro has inputs for 6ch analog which I intend to use for HD DVD content in order to use the new audio formats ( I have no HDMI imput). However, I also intend to use the XA2 for SD DVD which typically uses only DD or DTS. When I make the connections do I use only the 6ch analog inputs or do I also use the optical or digital inputs. If both are used will the player automatically detect the digital bitstream and ignore the 6ch analog. Not sure how all this works together. Please advise I am anxious to get started.

The majority of people just the 5.1 analog for everything. There is no need to add digital audio for DVD. The XA2 is also fairly decent speaker management capabilities -- levels, delays and LFE cross-over.

You can use the multi-ch analog out for everything, I only caution that I don't think it supports a phantom center.

I use the 6ch analog inputs for all dvd's. Let the player do all the decoding. I don't know what brand of receiver you have, but my Yamaha ignores all other inputs when 6ch analog is on.
