Yeah on the canadian digital forum it was confirmed Oct 20. But may take longer to get in stock. Preices are 349, 449,549 respectively and the XA2 price dropped to 799 as of Oct 1st.

Thank you for the info. The A35 pricing is better then I had originally thought it would be...

Are these players hookable in europe ? (ie 110/220 V)

Because I want to get the A35, but it's still not available in europe, and will probably be worth twice the american price when it comes out. I don't care about playing Pal SDs, just NTSC (which the R1 Toshiba are) will be OK for me.

If the Reon processor is the only difference, then I'm leaning toward the A35 vs XA2. I think the major benefit (but I'm not sure) to that processor would be in upconverting DVDs and better 3:2 processing. If your going to use the 1080p/24 output, then I don't think you need to do any of this processing (i.e. no upconverting and no 3:2). Your display should be able to handle brightness, color, contract, etc. so I don't see this feature on a player as being that critical-nice to have for sure but not critical.

Last I read was that HD-A35 will be released in October.

Anyone heard of a more accurate date when in October the HD-A35 will be available? early or late October...

The A35 is available now from Value Electronics:

I'm tempted to buy A35 for 1.3 (as opposed to the xa2). For those that have xa2, is the Reon chip that good for SD DVDs. For example, will the Reon chip vastly improve PQ for GI Jane or Hunt for Red October SD DVDs? These DVDs are extremely poor STD DVD picture quality. I'm assuming Nothing can help the PQ for these DVDs. Thx.

DacHawk,

Part of the answer has to do with what player you're coming from. A high end player with an external video processor is going to show less difference than one with a Mattel deinterlacer/scaler.

I think this was covered before but i'm still a bit confused. I got an A35 from VE and the invoice is dated 9/27, which makes me ineligible for the promotion starting October 1, however can I use the promotion expiring 9/30 since the A35 is not listed among eligible players?

Oops, I missed the point about your receiver having 6 analog inputs. So yea, as you said, you may want to go with the A35, either way.

Contact Robert at VE, explain your situation and have him send you a new invoice.

I've tried to find the manual to the A35 but to no avail. Can someone tell me if its possible to set the A35 to pass SD content unaltered?

The reason I'm asking is I have (soon) a Onk. 905 with a Reon. I'd like to have it do the SD conversion.

I assume by reading the thread that there is no current way to force 180p24 in HD currently... I'd just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best on the HD side to the native format on the disk passed through to the 905.

Only the HD-A2 can pass 480i60 via HDMI. If you have an A35 I would recommend letting it scale to 1080i60 and passing it to the Onkyo 905 for de-interlacing.

Mine was shipped Setp. 27th, 2007. I have been using it now since Oct. 2nd.

He hasn't sent me a new invoice and I have asked twice. I do understand he is very busy.

The manual for the HD-A35 on page 14 claims it too can pass 480i via HDMI. I tried it and my projector can't accept 480i via HDMI however to verify.

Yes it can and that is nice (assuming you have a decent scaler builb in projector (or outside).
BTW, all Toshiba players except XA2 can output 480i (or 576i for Europe) through HDMI.
This is A2, A20, A3, A30 and A35 (E1, Ep10, Ep30 & EP35 in Europe).

Well I hope their shippping all the preorders by now then , as they have been awful quiet about shippping these last few days, even though they originally said they were going to receive them last week.

I'm sorry - I meant the A3 , which is nowhere to be found at this point

I believe Value Electronics is now on their second shipment of A35s. Whether that was enough to cover preorders, I don't know.

I just ordered an A35 from VE. She seemed very nice, and advised me that the player should arrive Wed. of next week.

This officially makes me neutral. Very excited!

I'm about to pull the trigger on an A3. Anyone know if Robert ships the Toshiba 5 HD DVD offer form with the unit or is there a pdf found on his site?!
the toshiba form has nothing to do with robert, it's from toshiba. you can find the PDF all over the place, I think toshiba.com has it or you can find it on amazon.com or bestbuy.com or any other retailer that is selling hd-dvd players

here's a link I found: http://thelookandsoundofperfect.com/...ption_form.pdf

Thanks vvista. That seals it I was considering the A2 but I think I'll go for the A3 instead. Hell its a great price too especially considering Amazon.com isn't shipping till 11/1 and is still indicating $299 and theirs do not included the HDMI cable. (Yeah I'm going for one of the VIP packages). Just need to buy more Cat5 and another Apple Airport Express then I'll be all set.

I ordered one 2 days ago(I didn't pre-order) and it was shipped same day and I received it yesterday(Shipped from NY to CT). So if I was able to do that, I'd suspect they got all the preorders out already.

Based on Toshiba's website it states otherwise:
http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/hddvd_pr...p?model=hd-a30

Until someone can confirm that the A20/30/35 can do 480i over HDMI I am pretty sure it can't.
Anyone have a link to the previous 5 free promo form?
Did the A3's ship yet?
