Battle of the 32's: Samsung LNT3242H vs. Sharp LC32D42U (D43)

Hey there,

I am about to bite the bullet with buying a 32" LCD for my dorm, and I have narrowed it down to these two models.

The Samsung LN-T3242H and the Sharp LC-32D42U (same as D43).

Both have basically these same specs, with Samsung with the slight edge on contrast ratio (but in this day, contrast ratios are so overblown its ridiculous) and Sharp has the edge with refresh time, 5 m/s to Samsungs 8 m/s.

What my purchase boils down to is the reliability and the quality of each TV. If anyone has either of these, please let me know what you think of your models.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and price is not really an issue because i can get both for around 750-800 bucks...

both have great TV's! In my opinion Samsung is a bit better but not by much!

I would go with the samsung but thats just me!

What about samsungs do you exactly like? (ie customer service, that kinda stuff)

I'm actually in the same situation as you are, and I'm going to go with the Samsung for one reason -- screen modes. With the Sharp, if you select an HD mode (720p or 1080i), your screen is forced to be 16:9. So if, for example, you want to watch an upconverted DVD which isn't widescreen, the picture is stretched to 16:9. In other words, you have no option to watch 4:3 programs in their native aspect ratio in HD. Conversely, with the Samsung, you do have the option to watch 4:3 in HD, along with more in-depth picture adjustments. I personally find this very important. Just my 2 cents...
