Why not just power cycle the box every so often to reset it?
Do you feel optimistic about being able to speak with someone at Sony who knows what a "memory leak" is?
My advice is return it and buy a Roku. You'll be happier as it's a lot faster and has more features. Granted you'll need to use an HDMI port for it and it has it's own remote, but it's infinitely better than the pretty much unsupported BIVL. Also if you ever get a new TV, you can move the Roku over to it. My BIVL actually died after about 13 months (1 month out of warranty) and I never bothered to replace it.
