I don' know... it was pretty funny. Be sure to ask the wife to leave before the basement project scene shows up though, or you could be looking at a major purchase

It's either go nads, or go home!

ahem

At this point, what is the general consensus on Firmware 2.0? Worthy endevour or 20 wasted minutes of my life? Any known issues rectified, any glitches introduced?

Man, that was one stupid movie (Burn after watching dis damn movie)! K, I thought Clooney's pointless movie was done with LeatherHeads... Now came this garbage?

Yes I've seen what's in the basement. My wife just chuckled . I on the other hand was not as amused cause I wasted over an hour I could been doing something else... like washing my hair?

I'm not gonna even do a technical review for it. Burn after Watching... I mean Reading is a bunch of crock. Yaw have been warned!

btw, is that you in the new avatar?

Some said it did fixed something like X-files and Wall·E or something. But the truth of the matter is I didn't really have any problem loading these two even on 1.9? sept' for the seamless branching bs with X-files .

Anyone see Wanted? It wasn't too bad actually. It was a bit Matrix'ish in concept/style of the movie. Some outlandish things in the movie, but overall not too bad. Of course Angelina Jolie was smokin' hot as usual. Not that I watched the movie for that!
just letting everyone know serenity works fine except for the slow load time. but the wierd thing is that universal put their own screen saver on the disc so after 5 min it goes to that and NOT the samsung one, is this normal for universal blurays, or is it just the player
post #10328 of 12876
This is normal. All Universal titles in the Technical Reviews will have this note, or similar:

Quote:

* The Universal screensaver can extend the 1400 pause state to more than 30 minutes. To resume play, simply hit the Popup Menu button again or one of the bookmark buttons.

I think we, the 1400 owners, were the first to run into this phenom and document it as early as the Miami Vice Review or earlier releases.

Barney, it takes you a hour to wash your hair.

Wait a minute...maybe you color it too.

Just got off the phone with Samsung. Jennifer, from Case Management, had just informed me a new FW has been released, FW 2.0 . While I got her on the line (cause she did call me, and not the other way around), I wanted to address some of the ongoing issues with our beloved player .

5 Minutes Pause State
FW 2.0 has not extended the 5 minutes pause state to 30 minutes, nor give the ability to turn OFF this screensaver function for the end users, as requested. I needed to make it clear that officially, directly from Samsung, distinguish exactly 1) is this problem "fixable" OR 2) will Samsung fix it? Those are two distinct answers that I need from Samsung OFFICIALLY in writing. She will contact the Tech Department for the answer.

Seamless Branching Issues
FW 2.0 did not fixed video and audio stutters for seamless branching titles. Will future FW updates address seamless branching discs such as Hancock, X-Files, and AVP:R, for smooth playback? She will contact the Tech Department for the answer.

For analog audio, re-routing 100 Hz and below signals to the subwoofer when front speakers are set to "small".
FW 2.0 did not fixed what is stated on page 37 of the manual.

Quote:

Small : If LFE is on, bass below 100 Hz will be outputted through a Subwoofer instead of the speakers...

She will contact the Tech Department for the answer.

Free Upgrade to the 1500 or Refund Program by Samsung
Samsung Case Management is not authorized, nor equipped to handle this specific question. Barney will have to find the right person to talk to from Samsung about that! ScareCrow, where are the documentations buddy?

As always, if I can get all of this in writing, officially from Samsung, that would be cheeky? And again, I've invited anyone from Samsung to come and peruse this thread, gave them this address, and see what issues were are having with the 1400. She noted that in my case file.

Looking forward to another "great" year dealing with Samsung Customer Support!

Barney, I'm convinced that dealing with Samsung customer service is your most favorite hobby . May explain some of the (fe)male pattern baldness .

Here is a good one for ya. I shot off an inquiry about a MONTH AGO to Samsung re: my 5000 player.
I just got an email from them today, explaining how they were having trouble with their email system... and, if I still wanted my questions answered, that I could contact them agian and ask.
Attached just below that response, was the exact email that I sent to them!!!
They went to more trouble to NOT answer my questions, then to just give me a simple answer . UNBELIEVABLE!

Why should Samsung even do this? There is nothing that Samsung promised (profile 1.1,BD-Live, DTS-MA) that was not given to us. At least not in USA.

IMHO you should concentrate on the technical problems. Adding the "Free Upgrade" to the list just increases the chances that Samsung will take you less seriously on your other requests. Just a suggestion.

I know what you mean buddy! What can I say? I guess Barney just have this friendly charismatic personality? This is why they don't really what to fix some of these issues and I truly believe that they don't really want me stop talking to them. As much as Barney likes to talk to folks, he still needs some serious anti-depressant prescriptions talking to Samsung Customer Support!

I know buddy. And I understand the circumstances, fairly. Technical issues have been filed with them in my case ticket. The program is something I need to ask somewhere else. Anybody who is in the know, please direct me to him/her. Because both issues are handled independently, I don't think the tradeup program will effect the technical fixes requests.

Plus, it doesn't hurt to ask. Well worth a shot in my opinion.

I believe an Austrailian said that Samsung promised the player was going to be upgraded to profile 1.1 or BD-Live no remember which. However that was in Austraila not in the USA.

Screw Obama! Barney for president!!!

At the very least, Samsung should have in the setup menu:

"Screen Saver: on/off/Barney Option"

You're having way too much fun with that one, Barn!

I'm not making this one up buddy. To his defense , I've misquoted him. It shoulda been a "small child" instead of a "kid"? Not really saying that makes a difference or anything?

It all shoulders on how you approach them with it. I mean, if you rolled up into Samsung's crib and demanded this and that. Chances are, they're probably gonna tell you to go to hel.... hezzebala or somewhere .

But if you mentioned it to them, and ask if similar type of program can be offer here in the US, then also giving them time to sleep on it, I think they may consider it. It's a long shot... but well worth taking in asking?

Swing Vote is a good movie, though I decided to go for the SD version since I couldn't think of one reason it should be a BD... turns out the sound track was really great! Mayhaps the BD has it encoded better than DD 5.1??? Anyway, joebob that movie, Barney!

and another thing - it appears Corinnnthian Leather is no longer going to be popular:

Ricardo Montalban, Actor, Dies at 88

My Samsung BD-P1400 will not turn on, eject or do anything(sometimes when I plug it back in the standby light comes on). And, of course it is about 14days out of warranty. My question is has anyone else have this happen, and how much does it typically cost for it to be repaired, is it even worth it?

Thank You,
MC
Hey azwildcat21

I just recently shipped my player off for service, my problems with mine are a little different than your's. Anyway called up Samsung, it cost me $85 to have repaired, which I had to pay upfront before shipping (which also I was responsible for shipping cost) to Riverdale, NJ...so far I'm out a lil over $110 bucks w/shipping. And get this my player is still in warranty, so parts are covered but I still paid for labor(went past the 90day limit)...so hopefully your player is worth the repair, I figure if it goes past $200 bucks, it's probably worth investing in another....I didnt think blu-ray players were so problematic (until I reached this site) and especially with the Samsung brand....Good luck!

My most fond memory of him is not "corinnthian leather" or "Fantasy Island" but from "Star Trek, The Wrath of Khan". I think he was great in that movie.
what was the repair time estimated at?
