I think this is true for the most part. Most folks will leave it on "Last Valid" as a preset listening mode for the various audio input formats and NOT what it is supposed to be, e.g. TrueHD should presets to TrueHD.
But Dolby EX is not one of the listening mode you can preset to. It is on its own menu item, under Setup >>> Audio Adjustment >>> Dolby EX. The only option is "Auto" or "Manual". Auto will allow you just two listening modes as an option, Dolby EX or THX Surround EX. While Manual, you can select additional listening modes compatible with Dolby EX.
