Samsung BDP1400 Disussion Thread - Page 5

Never had the 1200, just the 1000. I thought X3 was an excellent disc to show the differences between the two tracks. It was audibly different to me.

I just picked up my new 1400

Ok Madpoet, you have to describe the ending scene with Jean Grey/Phoenix loses control!

It took a total of 15 min and all is perfect

OH MY GOD!!!!!! A real life, true blue optical player than can now output THD/DD+/DTS-HD HRA & MA via HDMI bitstream??? Oh I am SO in there!! PS3, I love you dearly, but the 1400's my new mistress now. Someplace somewhere's gonna sell me one of these babies before this day is out, guaranteed! (Hell, and I just paid off my Visa only to do damage to it yet again. *lol*)

what's the big deal? I have a PS3, I don't plan on getting a Samsung BDP1400 just for this.

And you have it and are hanging around here? Can't be that great.
And you don't have it and are jealous. So sad. Go back to playing Resistance and talking about how awesome your cell processor is. You obviously have nothing to add here.
I've got nothing. That was too good of a put down. Where is the cheapest place to get a BDP1400?

The 1400 is not in competition with PS3 so lets all get along. If you don't own the 1400 or no plans to buying why try to bring down a thread with nonsense post.Lets move on and all be happy AV members

Yes, I am pleased

Just did the same and rented XMEN Last Stand, Fantastic 4, and Letters from Iwo Jima and I have now seen the TRUE HD and MASTER HD lights come on. I must say XMEN sounded like a true movie theater on my 805. Now my media room (Man Cave) is complete.

So, X-Men 3 is DTS MA 6.1. How is it being decoded on your new pre-amps and receivers? Both back speakers are getting duplicate sound or are they choking and only putting sound out through one of the back speakers?

I guess that's why many studios, such as Lionsgate, are putting 6.1 tracks out as 7.1 with duplicated mono rears, so there aren't any compatibility issues.

How much better sounding is the DTS MA track from the core now that it can be decoded??

I wanna know!! Perhaps this will be my next player!!

I posted a "notice" on the HDM forum.

If some of you with the 1400 that is passing bitstream for decoding would like to post over there, it would be nice.

You have your typical skeptical people that say 1.5 mpbs is enough, why have it on an outboard processor.

can one of you also check to see if directors commentary comes on with dts hd ma???

Sorry, I am kind of excited about this.....

Interesting

Congrats Samsung on being the first! My 905 is very happy!

I just checked XMEN Last Stand and both rear channels are outputting sound. I am not sure if I am answering your question correctly.

Same sound or different sound?

Ok, can anyone check to see if it will internally decode Dolby True HD and DTS-MA and send it out via HDMI via PCM?? I don't have a new receiver that can accept those as bitstream. But my receiver can do 7.1 PCM.

Please Lord, please let this be the case. I shall part with my PS3 post haste if it does.

please explain to me how someone will know if it is happening?, the answer is simple, you won't

the player can decode the core DTS track and send out via PCM and analog, same with TrueHD, so again how is anyone to know what one is getting when listening via PCM or analog which you can't definitively know where the decoded signal source came from?

you've seen the Pioneer BD players Joe , how does the 1400 stack up video wise? does it have that nice true 1080p/24 direct output that behaves just like the Pioneer and Sony BD players?

do you know if the 1080p/24 output is 4:4:4 or is finally 4:2:2 as it should be?

thanks Joe

No entirely true. The 1400 decodes True-HD even without this firmware update. As for DTS-HD, it decodes DTS-HD-HR only.

sorry for the confusion, I wasn't making a claim about this player and what it can do, I don't have a clue on it because I haven't even looked into it much

I was merely pointing out that it is impossible to know what a player is really doing via PCM/analog, you must believe what is listed in specs or claims from the manufacturer

I agree with you 100%. We all remember the poster "theHDMan" claiming that his Panasonic was decoding the DTS-HD-MA and could tell because "he could clearly hear the difference". By the way where is he? He should buy this player so he knows what DTS-HD-MA really sounds like
post #149 of 12884
Just bought a BD-P1400. Image quality is fantastic. Unfortunately, the player is extremely loud, less from the fan than from the disk spinning itself. It's a lot louder than the Sony BD i tried first, and far far louder than my NAD DVD player. I can hear it even with the audio turned up reasonably high; when the audio cuts out, the sound is really annoying.

So: is mine lemon or is the 1400 is just a loud machine? Anyone else having trouble with a loud BD-P1400?
Garys right... your not going to know when everything says PCM. Is there an option for DTS masters now(not familiar with this player). I suppose if there is, you could set DTS to bitstream and Masters to PCM. When you play the movie your receiver would say PCM if it is decoding it.
