Samsung BDP1400 Disussion Thread - Page 402

Samsung has just released (via LAN anyway, not sure about download to CD) a new firmware version for the P1400. I have taken the upgrade and can confirm that the P1400 will now play the Skynet version of "T2."
I guess Barney has been slacking off on his calling of Samsung duties.
Congratulations to 1400 owners for toughing it out this long.
I have no doubt that this firmware came about via the persistence of owners pounding Samsung to support their product.
BTW, this crow tastes delicious.

All right folks, we need confirmation. Let's find out what it fixes, and what it breaks!

Just checked my LAN connection. It says version 090803_01_BDP1400_XAA_1 is available. I'm going to hold off a short time to hear if it's a worthwhile update.
BTW does that number mean they have been working on this new version since August 3rd?

August 3rd is when the fw was created. However, at that point it would have needed to go through testing and quality control, and then possibly changed to fix some problems.
Usually you do not see such a gap between the release date and the date the fw was created, but there are many good reasons that could explain why.
It could even be a typo that was suppose to be 090830 or 090903 instead of 090803... who knows.
However, at the same time, knowing Samsung I wouldn't be surprised if they were just sitting on the fw for the last 7 weeks.

Downloaded the new firmware, took the usual 1/2 hour or so. No issues with the upgrade. I can verify that it now plays The Ninth Gate, have not tried Haunting in Connecticut or Ghostbusters yet. I am happy so far.

Firmware now allows me to play Underworld Rise Of The Lycans.
thanks all. 090803?
Ghostbusters is now fixed and loaded with FW 090803!
doing update now...7 minutes in.

Ghostbusters at the ready...

Ah, I remember the old days of firmware downloads taking sooo long to download.
Those were the days... sniff.
T2 Skynet will load, but.... there are no main menu. You have to hit the Popup Menu button to bring up the tabs of menu options. I selected the "Special Edition" instead of the Theatrical Version and it's stuck at the 20:35 mark for more than 5 minutes now... doesn't look good.

And me without my 1400... (Samsung Replacement Department has it).

Sometime this week I will be getting a call from their CSR department to let me know what model they will be sending as a replacement for my defective 1400. I pressed them HARD about the issues my player was having and in the end they agreed to an exchange.

I can only hope some of my efforts contributed towards this recent development, but the credit really goes to Barney.

So for Samsung you're saying August 2nd then?

I have my BD-P1400 hooked up to the Internet. When I check for new firmware updates it shows that there is indeed a new one from 2.0. I go through the motions by downloading the new firmware. It takes about 20 mins and all seems to go well. But when it's finished, I restart the 1400 and the firmware version is still the old one. Am I doing something wrong?

It has always done this and I have had to do the update via CD ROM to get it to update correctly.

Are you waiting for the player to turn itself off after the update? It should say update successful and turn itself off. When you turn it on it should ask you to select the language like it is the first time you turned it on. Mine worked fine via ethernet connection.

It takes 20 to download then asks if you want to update...then you have to press yes to upgrade firmware. In ten minutes +/- it will say complete and turn itself off. You are downloading but not upgrading.
You don't turn it off or you might brick it.

No, the fw has not been around since August. It was just released to the public today or maybe yesterday.

Thanks guys. I had been watching broadcast TV on another input while the player updated its firmware. When I would eventually go back to the 1400 it would have the Samsung 'blue screen' showing. I'll watch it all the way through next time.

Thanks so much for the advice!

Yes King, you and everyone in this thread, owners and previous owners of the 1400, made a significant impact directly and indirectly toward the release of this firmware. It is a group effort. This group should be very proud of what has been accomplished... without somebody being sued or worse, murdered over it!

Note to Samsung: (Cause I know you are reading this.)

Thank you for the firmware fix. For future reference, business is simple. Support your product. Keep your customers happy. Your loyalty fan base will grow as a result. We need not drag out our dirty laundry in public. Do what's right. Trust me, it's a more pleasant road to travel down for all of us.

Great news guys!!!

Maybe I will keep my old 1400 and use it for another TV that I may get for an other room.

Amen to that Brother!

I can sleep now since I just sold the 1400 to a friend...

(I know, I know Barney, Friends don't sell Friends a 1400)

I had trouble navigating the menu with Smallville season 8 but it works fine. I'm testing it after the latest firmware so I don't know if it worked prior to the latest update.

Can I assume that with the new firmware there is no change to the 5 minute pause then stop issue?
