got my netflix copy of 'the road' today, did a 'test load/play'. took a good 2 mins to load, then had to 'skip' thru 4 trailers, then movie played ok. i let it play for about 20 mins with no issues, then stopped it.
will watch for real in next few days.

'the road' loaded a lot faster, 1/2 the time?, on my $60 sylvania bdp.

Our local Hollywood Video is going out of business. I picked up Terminator Salvation, Quantum of Solice and Half Blood Prince for cheap. They all played perfect. I've been real pleased with FW 2.3. The 1400 has been running 1080/24 perfectly for me to my new Sony LCD.

I was wondering how the 1400's video processor compares to some of the newer players out there?

as i understand it, most bdps have pretty much the same blu-ray pq.

it's on dvds that the video processor matters more.
don't know which one is in the 1400 but i've read/heard it's not the greatest.

Well folks.....My 1400 is not longer my primary blu ray player. I have decided I had enough with the loading issues, and the periodical flashing to black screen during playback. I am the new owner of a Oppo BDP-80. Given that I paid 295 CAD, I am very happy.

This player has served me well and been very faithful. For something I picked up for less than $150 refurbished on Ebay, she has been a trooper. She let me jump into blu ray when it first came out, for a fraction of the cost of a new player.

We do not need a moment of silence for her though, as she will be the moved to the bedroom to continue on playing discs.

Better than being donated to a daycare I hope you like the oppo. My 1400 keeps pluggin away, still working fine.

We watched Toy Story 2 tonight and it played and looked fantastic! Loaded fast, no issues at all. What an awesome disc, great sound and picture.

got 'shutter island' bd in mail today. cleaned it, test loaded it, got the 'this disc will not play' message.

cleaned it again, it loaded fairly quickly and is now playing on the flat panel.
i'll let it run (not watching) for a while to make sure there are no bugs.

I too just replaced my 1400 today. It is truly a bittersweet moment.
This was my first Blu-ray player and it has served me well for over 2 years now.
I purchased it refurbished back then and for the most part has not caused me any problems.
I just need something with more features (wireless, Netflix, etc.)
I also plan on moving this player to the bedroom so I can finally watch my Blu-rays there.

I found my receipt for the 1400 yesterday. I forgot how expensive that sucker was almost 3 years ago. My 1400, is still working like a charm....KNOCK ON WOOD !!

I know, I paid $220 for a REFURBISHED unit over 2 years ago.
I just bought my LG 570 for less than that brand new.

I wish I got off that cheap. I'm such a sucker for a slick marketing campaign.

I was at the Sony store last week and was watching Avatar, and it appeared to be in 3D, I asked the salesperson, and he said no it is just BR format. I have the 1400, rented Avatar in BR, and it was good, but not 3D. Is it possible that he was playing it through some sort of 3D Blue Ray Player? thanks.

Yes, I have one for sale. It's only $1,000,000.00 !! There currently isn't any consumer tech out that allows a 3D image without the use of glasses(LCD or polarized). As far as the current 3D tv's out right now, you will need a 3D capable Blu Ray that's HDMI 1.4 and the 1400 does not qualify.

Yes there is, its called the Nintendo 3DS. Let us wait and see if this technology is real and can be manufactured for big screens. It could be cheaper than $1,000,000.00, that is way above my budget.

LOL...I wonder if Nintendo is going to go into the TV business?

It is VERY unlikely that the Nintendo "no glasses needed 3D" will ever evolve to be able to be used with large screens and larger viewing angles. However....

Anyone having trouble with surround formats? Dark knight will only play in DD and not true HD. Cars has an option to play PCM uncompressed. Is that the same as TrueHD?

I have not had any problems with any audio format. I am running the current firmware release.

As for TrueHD vs. uncompressed PCM, they are the samething (or at least TrueHD starts the same as PCM); both are lossless audio formats.

Figured it out. The TrueHd for TDK is in the language menu and not the audio settings menu. Gee, that's intuitive! Freakin idiots.

Are you running HDMI to a newer receiver that decodes HD audio or are you letting the 1400 decode everything?

Has anyone tried " The Crazies" yet? Any problems? I'm looking forward to this one.

Just expanded my BR player fleet (my son added a PS3). Therefore the 1400 doing duty in my family room needs a home. Has firmware 1.9 (is working as well as is possible with a 1400 at this rev. level).

I have original box, manual, remote, and has been used in a non-smoking environment.

I realize the value of this legacy player is not great. However; if you are interested shoot me a PM including your offer and your zip code (conus only)

This thread is dying fast. It's kinda like returning home and visiting your old hangout just to discover it's now a flea market or an adult book store.

I'm letting my receiver do the work. But if I wanted my 1400 to do the work would I set it to PCM?

Im new to this forum and I was wondering if you could help me . Is there a list of Blu-ray films that work with the BD1400? I'm very busy with work and I just dont have the time to trawl theough all the post on here. Much appreciation for any help, thanks.

Also is there a workable link to firmware downloads? Samsung have just the 2.3 on their site. I'd like the others that were previous. thanks

Welcome to the forum and the 1400 thread. There isn't really a master list of movies/disc's that i'm aware of. However, since FW 2.3 I have not come across a disc that's had any issues. I'm sure there are still some discs that don't play or load correctly but I haven't heard of any lately. Knock on wood, FW 2.3 has been great so far.

i've been having very good luck with fw 1.9.
it's been a long time since i had a movie that wouldn't play; actually, there was only one-'a clear and present danger, iirc.
and two others that i had to go into the chapter/scene section and start the movie from ch. one, then they played thru ok.
don't remember if it was even with this fw.

i do find that it helps greatly to clean the disc before playing. even new ones.

The latest firmware update will include all other updates so you don't need the one's prior to 2.3.

But I'm not going to be much help. Early 1400 adopter, here. August, 2007.

Knock on wood, but I've never had any BD that wouldn't play that couldn't be helped with a FW update. And I've played close to 300 movies. I might add that I don't rent, however. Every BD disc has been a brand new purchased disc.

Don't know of any site that has a list of movies that don't/won't play on the 1400. I've been reading the various 1400 threads on this and other boards since July, 2007, and movies such as the "Pirates of Carribean" movies, "Drag Me to Hell" (don't own myself but have seen mentioned) and a few other isolated titles seemed always to play after Samsung came through with a FW update.

Of course, "Avatar" was the most recent. FW 2.3 came out because of "Avatar." The previous FW update was 2.1, and audio cutouts and chapter title popups were making people crazy with "Avatar." At least it played on the 1400, albiet not perfectly. On many other players, "Avatar" wouldn't play at all. If you wanted "Avatar" to play perfectly (before the FW 2.3 came out), it was discovered one could re-install FW 1.9. "Avatar" played perfectly on FW 1.9.

But I digress. And there is no list of movies that will not play. As I said, I don't know of one BD movie that won't play on universally on the 1400 with the proper FW 1400 AND if the 1400 in question is in good working order.

No site that I know of that has all previous FW updates. Maybe someone else might know of one. However because most people have moved on to other BD players, this thread is quite "bare" as far as frequent visitors are concerned. Sadly, the "day" of the 1400 is long gone. And the few of us that are still "hanging in there" haunt these forums like ghosts.

The only way I know of to tell which FW update you currently have is to start the update process. The screen will tell you. Then if you don't want to change, just hit "no" at that point. I keep written records of what date I update my FW and to which version. But that's just me. Very "anal." HA.

Like I said, not much help.

But if I were you, I'd update to FW 2.3. Perhaps you already have done that (came out in early April) and forgot? Then I'd keep written records from now on. Just an idea.
