Samsung BDP1400 Disussion Thread - Page 213

Is there a list compiled that has the discs that this player has problems with?

I get my 1400 today and I don't want to have a hemorage OOTB.

Would be nice if there was a thread that had the first post with stats about the player and everything nice that could be updated. I have no way to read through this entire thread. Anyone willing to start a new thread and have it updated with info shared by all owners?

I just called, they will pay for parts but I have to pay for shipping plus $89 bucks for the service I wondering if I should just get another player like the BD30 or even the LG BH200 but I'm afraid of the audio drop outs people are experiencing with these players. No sure if I can wait for the new Sony's. The new Philip player is tempting but I think of them as being below Samsung when it comes to quality and support so I'll stay way for now.

Are these audio dropouts only while bitstreaming through the hdmi port?

I am going to be using PCM through analog 5.1 outs.

Hey guys...just checking in. I have a bdp-1400 that didn't work from the time I pulled it out of the box. Long story short I didn't read the fine print to know it was a refurb. (no one to blame but me). Still had a 90 warranty with it. All this started in mid Feb. took to late March for Samsung to authorize the return. Now they say they've ordered parts and are on back order.

Just curious...what has your experience been when you had to send something in?

Thanks,
Kevin

watsa ootb?

The thread to list all the movies that the 1400 has problem playing has been suggested before. My only take on it back then and still now is how accurate it will be. Problematic BD's vary by nature. Some will experience a problem like Enchanted, while others may not and perfectly fine with it. Settings, connection type, components of your HT setup, condition of disc (scratches and smears), and what world you live in all comes into play. And everyone is different. I'm not knocking on the idea, cause it is a noble one , but the moment you write down the first "bad" disc, there is one person right after that would contest otherwise.

I think the system in place now, however overwhelming, is a good one. Someone can't play a disc, bitch.. I mean post all you want. Someone will do a search on this thread to see if they're in the same boat and what was done to fix the issue, if any.

After 90 days you have to pay for labor ($89.00 or $79.00 I don't remember the exact amount) and they will cover the parts cost.

Well my guess is some 8^ Onkyo Auddey Design Engineer defines Listen Position #0 (to get verification of all 8 channels output) and Listening Position #1 as two positions, even though it's exactly the same location!

For a while now I am contemplating going back to 5th grade math and see if I can pass it this time, where I have failed on several occasions miserably!

Had no audio or video problem playing Disney's Invincible with the 1400. Great movie. Enjoyed it even not a big Eagles fan. Some scenes where the 5.1 LPCM streams sounded good. Great extra features at the end telling you the real true Papale story.

On FW 1.6 @ 1080p/24 fps off - bitstream audio.
thanks Larry the wait for my Onkyo 606 continues.

I haven't read the other BD player threads on this but after watching Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium last night the second time, I turned it off along half way through the movie with the other componenents. Forgot I had left the disc inside of it, I turn on the 1400 along with the rest of the components tonight. Guess what? It looked like it was doing the initial load from the beginning, as expected. But it went straight to where I left off last night. A full 24 hours of standby, how is this possible?

I duplicated it again and it works again. Now if I first stop playback then turn off (on standby) the 1400, it loses its memory and would have to reload from the beginning. I imagine if you eject the disc it would do the same. But if you leave the disc inside of it and put it immediately on stanby, then the next time the 1400 starts, it will load the correct location and it also remember the subtitles being turned on and the audio bitstream selected is DTS Master Audio! I know this is something small, but is this the future of "Resume Play" or something similar that the BDA and Sammy are working on? Comments?

No that's the stop bug with the 1400 in relationship to the resume play of most Java titles. It varies from disc to disc whether it resume play after it has been stopped, not paused. The 1400 has bug which goes to stop if being paused for more than 10 minutes. Some disc you would have to reload from the beginning.

But in this case, the initial load of data remains active even after being turned off for over 24 hours. Probably due to the laser arm physical never moved and the ability of the 1400 to reload the settings without initialization, or starting all over.

I just got an email from eCost showing that they have a Samsung Recertified 1400 on sale for $239. Have they fixed any of the issues or better yet, what are my chances of getting a solid performing unit? I was initially going to get a PS3, but with a cost difference of $160, I'm taking a serious look at the 1400.
if PS3 is already in your budget and you're not bothered with the fan noise, PS3 is a better player in the sense that it loads MUCH faster and has better SD DVD upconversion.

I won a 1400 recertified / refurbished on ebay about 1 1/2 months ago for $256 including shipping. The thing looked like new except for a couple of fine scuffs in panel lens for display (no biggie). The thing seems to work fine with latest firmware.

Samsung will extend the warranty by an additional 90 days if you register the player online.

The PS3 is within my budget, but that wouldn't take into consideration titles. That's what so appealing about the 1400. I could buy 4 or 5 titles and be at the break-even mark.

Oh, I took the test Nimo linked and got 2534 (42/44). Guess I like math!

Hey Barney,

So, if I'm reading this right, if you hit the stop button first and then put the 1400 in standby, no resume on power up. If you put the 1400 in standby while the movie is playing, the 1400 will resume on power up. Is that correct?

This is better than starting from scratch! Have you tried one of the problem children like The Rat Movie or POTC?

TIA,

Larry

Hey Scott,

I wonder if this is only for new players. I registered a 1400 re-furb online on March 1 and rec'd no extension. Has any other recent owner of a re-furb 1400 rec'd the extension?

There has been several mention the fact that the 1400 has a fairly slow loading times as compared to other players. What are we talking about here...30 seconds, 2 minutes? I have a Toshiba HD-A30 HD-DVD player and it takes about a minute or so from power on to loading DVD. Is the 1400 similar in load time? If so, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Plus, I don't have another BR player to compare it to, so I have nothing but others' opinions to base my judgement on.

I'm really thinking about getting this player. I'll have to see what the return policy is with eCost if I have any issues.
