are "branches" where it chooses a director's cut or the original as it goes along? because that's what i felt was always missing from DVD's. although i can see it being a memory hog.

Smarty-pants, not to always be contradicting in all intentions and appearences, and others who are having problems with the 1.7 upgrade, was the problem there before you've done the upgrade to 1.7?

problem?

There are DVDs with branches too - and yes that is exactly what it is.

My first DVD player ALSO had problems with seemless braches! Though a much more difficult firmware update fixed it.

Puts some perspective on the 'wah! I want my firmware update via ethernet not a CD-R iso!'

I watched AVP2 last night and watched the unrated version and I got hiccups 3 times durriung it. Didn't happen on my bdp1000.

Samsung really dropped the ball on their quality.

Can samsung build anything worth buying?

Ok? What the heck did the two links have to do with seemless branching?

I don't get it.

In case you haven't heard, I have been officially AVP: R tired out for a while now ! May build enough stamina to withstand playing it another time this week. Do you know of any other BD's with branching problems.

BTW, in laymen's term, exactly what is seemless branching and how do you know where it takes place?

Sorry - the first link shows what you had to do back in the day to upgrade your firmware(program a EEPROM and hack your player). The second had a history of the Apex 600 firmware including issues with seemless branching in older versions.

It was just an aside... I find it annoying that 8 years later they still can't get seamless branching right.

Imma going with, branches growing on trees.

The deinterlacing errors were there with 1.6 AND 1.7. For some reason, they seemed a touch more prevelent with 1.7, but it's probably just my swiss cheese memory. There is definately NO improvement of sd-dvd playback with 1.7 compared to 1.6
post #6523 of 12876
seemed like my DVD loaded lightning fast with 1.7, but that could've just been my imagination.

Delusion, big time! and in the head!

On the contrary, I found a new respect for the 1400 upscaling ability. Yep in my head too.

Isn't it funny how "perception" can make such a difference. What if 3 people came on hear and said they thought that with 1.7, their sd-dvds looked better? Would it have an effect on people? What if I said that with 1.7, BRs look just alittle more sharp, a little more focused, and more robust than any other BR player on the market (<-no, not true, have no idea)? Would that have an effect on you?
Would you start thinking of sleeping with your 1400 then>
Would you go out and buy another one?

Just kidding...

I don't know. Why don't you ask the mass hysteria that's going on the PS3 thread? Cookoo, Cookoo.

Hey if SS will include some kind of noise filtering algorithm in the FW upgrade and the Sigma Design SoC can process it, then brotha, I do believe!

Bring on the purple flavoraid, Jim Jones.

Oh my, the woderful world of Wikipedia online. Who did this? I think my 14 year old could have done a better job. Seams to me seamless branching has some serious bugs to fix. Thanks for the link, buddy, but I will go ask the natives in the Blu-ray forum if they can give me more info on this not so seamless branching afterall nonsense. ... if some big dummy hasn't already asked.

BTW, who's psyched about playing The Golden Compass on their 1400 tomorrow? I know I am. 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio!

Last time I've felt this way was for the official release of AVP: R. And you know how that turned out.

Smarty-pants, you probably wouldn't appreaciate some of the grainy scenes from what I remembered at the theater on your 90ft 5-story 1080i screen! I know this is one of those disc susceptible to the DTS MA Bitstream Bomb.
Mmm-hmm, now who's a smarty pants?
After hearing you mention it hear a few days ago, I went to the IMDB in search of details. The powers that be, at the IMDB, say this one ain't worth the fee .
I don't have a Netflix subscription for hi-def yet, on account of I have so many BRs and HDs on my shelf that I haven't even watched yet. So, I'll be putin this one on the back burner till who knows when.

Yep. I suspect this is the problem you had with AVP2 - which is why I was hoping 1.7 would fix the issue.

Imma planning to get mine at wally world for bout 25 bux. I know you are still not sore bout the Jim Jones association thingy, are you? Cause some religious fanatics did protested against this film. ... It is a just a film, y'all.

I think I'm on the same boat as you are. Lots of HD DVD's and BD's still factory sealed!

Well my 1400 finally crapped out on me

I bought it back in early October and it worked great for the first 4 months hooked up via HDMI straight to TV and 5.1 analog to the pre/pro. Absolutely no issues with original firmware. The last 2 months have seen A/V freeze ups that have been easily cured by chapter skipping back. BTW, the unit is in an entertainment center that is open on 3 sides, plenty of room to breath with nothing but the HD-A2 below it.

Yesterday, I threw in POTC: CotBP and it loaded and played fine up to about the 35 minute mark. Then all of the sudden the video and audio completely dropped out and I started getting only popping sounds through my speakers. Since then, it has done the same thing at different points in every BD I've tried, usually occurring within 5-10 minutes of the movie starting.

I've tried just about everything to no avail!!! I've updated to 1.7, swapped cables, FF reset, cleaned discs, etc. I have audio running to the receiver and video running straight to the TV and I lose them both at the same time. I can only assume that in order for both to puke at the same time, the problem has to reside in the 1400 itself.

Oh well, I've got the 1400 boxed up and obtained a R/A # from Samsung. It'll go out tomorrow and hopefully they can fix it and I'll have it back by the middle of May!

Your unit is behaving the same way mine did before sent it for repair last Friday. I also bought the unit around the same time. There is something fishy going on with the earlier production units.
