Netflix screwed me at the drive thru... I've had that on my list since it was announced many moons ago, and today it switches from "release on 7/22" to "very long wait" !!!

One thing already caught my eyes. The "Blu-ray Exclusive Feature: 21 Virtual Blackjack Game". Man I hope this isn't part of the BD-Live feature. I'm looking to lay down a couple of franklins on the blackjack table tonite. Best of all, don't really have to leave home and go to Vegas or Atlantic City for it !

Yeah. I never watched Kimmel until I decided to TiVo his After-the-Oscars show. That's where we saw his girlfriend doing the Matt Damon song. Then Kimmel did the Ben Affleck song a few days/weeks later. He has a great sense of humor as does his girlfriend (not to mention she's a bit hot in a girl-next-door kinda way). BTW: If you didn't see the entire Matt Damon video, it's worth it to check it out

anyone else get popping problems with American Psycho on bitstream? I have an Onkyo 705 going to a Kuro 5010.

everyone minute or two at least, there is a pop from loss of signal. is it just the bad authoring? it's an old BD.

Again, the 24fps mode and 1080i/p are separate settings.

If a disc is 24fps natively, then the player outputs
* 24p, if 24p mode is on and if your display supports 24p. The 1080i vs 1080p setting is irrelevant.
* 60i, if 24p mode is off or your display does not support 24p, and you have 1080i set.
* 60p, if 24p mode is off or your display does not support 24p, and you have 1080p set.

If a disc is not 24fps natively (concert videos or other material stored as 60i on the disc), then the player outputs
* 60i, if you have 1080i set. The 24fps setting is irrelevant.
* 60p, if you have 1080p set. The 24fps setting is irrelevant.

Under no circumstances does the player interlace native 24fps material to anything other than 60i.

The 1080i vs 1080p and 24p mode are separate settings because the 24p setting is only relevant when the disc is natively 24fps (and the display supports 24p input).

tai4de2, based one you you have explained, then I guess we are to assume that Samsung has INCORRECTLY setup the menus of the 1400?

24fps can be tuned on if the output res is selected as either 1080i OR 1080p. However you say that the i and p are irrelevent when playing a dvd mastered in 24fps mode. So, if selecting 1080i w/24fps ON, then the output would be 1080p/24, NOT 1080i/24... correct? Why would they implement the player to allow 24fps ON when in 1080i mode? Very confusing...

I did split a pair of Aces. Both hands paid tremendous dividends cause the dealer hand's was high for ol' Barn!

i'm ready to get my 1st bd player and thinking about a 'refurb' samsung bdp1400 from ubid.com for under $270. i've had very good luck with refurb c.e. gear in the recent past.

is buying a bdp1400 from ubid.com a wise move?

For $270 on a refurb I wouldn't do it. I got mine for $217 shipped awhile back from secondact.com.

WOW.

These two Blu-ray titles sound flat out amazing. If you're a fan of acoustical guitar, just go ahead and buy the Dave Matthews Disc.
PQ & SQ are a perfect 100 for me. This is the new demo disc for our home theater. BTW, it played flawlessly with the 1400 (FW 1.8).

A very close second is the Chris Botti Live title. I am not a fan of "Acid Jazz" and this work is something I can "hear". I love the sounds of brass instruments and this title can definitely get the Ladies in the mood.
Again, this title played flawlessly with the 1400 (FW 1.8).

Note to Barney: I didn't know if these two titles were on your radar to review....

Any problems with the latest firmware? I'm still using my original firmware...haven't had to upgrade yet. Just checking to see if there are any problems with the new one, as I may upgrade.

watsup Larry, buddy. I got Chris Botti and Friends. Yea, this is when hidef audio is at its best, or should be. The audio is rated up to 18 Mbps dynamic bitrate !

The 5.1 LPCM 96khz/24bit track was very clean. Someone as good of hearing as Smarty should be able to tell the difference, right off the bat .

Not much of a DMB fan tho. Barney's still waiting for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Guns and Roses, The Ramones, Scorpions, and Fleetwood Mac BDs to come out.

Tho I'm keeping an eye out everyday for the AC/DC BD price is right game .

your other option is the Sony S300. Hate to say it, but the 1400 runs circles around the 300 all day long... and probably safe to say in general all Profile 1.0 BD players ! In terms of features... For technical support ... Well I think this thread is more helpful...

I'll chime in.....I updated to FW 1.8 about 40 seconds after Barney did and IMHO, this is the most stable FW from Sammy.

Well, if you want some hatred... TSC is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. You'd have to pay ME to "take" instead of buy it, then I'd put the cash in my pocket and throw the movie in the trash can. Ok, it's not THAT bad, but it is a stinker.

As for TM and TMR, I really like those ...and they are also my wifes favorite movies of all time.
I'm mostly interested in your take on the difference in sound quality between the HD and BR versions .
