Where did you guys find the description for this firmware upgrade? I can't find it anywhere.

joerod is the only one I know that has this player and a receiver capable of testing the bitstream support.

Weird, if I use your link I get the description but if I go using the download center menus I don't see it. It must be my proxy server screwing things up I think.

Well, I just put my order in and will pick up my 1400 on the way home from work. I love my Panny, but I have the 805 and can't wait to see the light shine for DTS HD MA!
i have a question. on my 1200 everytime i play dvd, i have to go into menu and set display to 1080p. i cannot set 1080p to default. does 1400 have this same problem?

from what i understood 1400 could not do this. and also no dolby truehd via bitstream. right? i have 705 and would also like adv. codecs via bitstream, but i figure i will probably have to wait couple of years for this to happen and to be affordable.

Eh, if the web page says it it MUST be true... right?

XMen 3, here I come! Sneaking out a bit early. Wish I had a CD burner here to have it ready.

bitstream or pcm? i want receiver to do the work-bitstream.
Bitstream I hope. At the very least so that I know it works!
Greetings,

It should be bitstream and not pcm. The 1200 is not capable of this however the 1400 and 2400 should be.

Is $435 a good price?? Maybe I won't wait if the 5 dvds come with it.
Let me know what Vanns says. They do say

"Get 5 FREE Blu Ray Movies With Purchase!

Get 5 FREE Blu Ray movies when you purchase any Blu Ray player between 7/1/07 through 9/30/07!
Click Here For Rebate Form (PDF)

Promotion Ends 09/30/2007

Called Vanns, (This is where I bought the player - best Price I could find) they had me call Samsung who in turn had me call the rebate center. No one knew for sure if it was eligible. The lady at the rebate center said to send it in, she thinks it will go through but could not confirm it.

Best case is 5 free movies worst case is the cost of a stamp and a whole in my DVD box.

im thinking 1400 maybe bitstream dolbytrue hd, dts ma pcm. that way we will all buy more players, they make more money. im sure its all been thought out by the number crunchers. the only people it will affect is people like us. the regular person has no clue what they are buying, but what some salesman tells them. most still think bose are the best speakers you can get. we all know this is true. i think just like dvd players time will be what sorts it out.

Burning the CD now! The player is hooked up and ready once updated
post #107 of 12884
Hrm... not sure if this is normal or not. The screen just sayd "Verifying firmware" and has a triangle with an exclamation point. The player says "Loading". But nothing seems to be happening
post #108 of 12884

The updates can take awhile. I know with my one and only on the 1200 it took something like 20mins.
Wow, if this is true I might have to upgrade today
post #111 of 12884
SUCCESS! Firmware update took a while to start, but only 8 minutes to complete. Shut down once done. I fired it back up, set it to bitstreem, and popped in X3. Once I got into the movie, my 805 said DTS MSTR HD!!!

Yes, I am pleased

Get this player ASAP because I'm sure they are going to fly of the shelves now.
Ok, now we need the first comparison of DTS-MA to regular DTS?

Thoughts on DTS-MA??
This is BIG news as this is the first player to allow bitstream for all the audio formats including the infamous DTS HD MA!
