Oh ya... well, it's no longer 10%, but now with the Microsoft Live cashback program... (drumroll please) a whopping 30% rebate on anything bought with BuyItNow on Ebay in conjuntion with the Live Search cashback program.

I'm buying a new house and we needed some new couches for in the new family room. So I convinced the wife to use the couches I had in my theater, and let me buy theater seats for in the theater. Yep, got 'em off Ebay for an incedible deal with an incredible rebate coming in 60 days from Microsoft Live.

Life is getting better ...

If i hook up this player to a Denon 2809, which can decode TrueHD and DTS-HD,can i listen to these Soundformats 100% without loss? Thanks a lot
post #9483 of 12876
yes pA, if the 2809 can decode TrueHD and DTS-HD/MA, then you can listen to all of the lossless audio tracks in their pure form by bitstreming the audio from the 1400 into the 2809 via HDMI.

GREAT THANKS !!
does the 1400 play every Blu Ray or are there known problems with certain discs...

Well fellow 1400 owners, my luck has finally run out. INDY 4 just wouldn't play at the Chapter 10 mark, as well as countless 1 sec audio dropouts throughout the first 9 chapters. Release day disc from BB through the mail and it looks flawless (Barney's favorite word ). I am on FW 1.9.

I guess the old girl knows that she is on the way out.

Larry, if you'd just have a little patience, they are working on a fw fix and it should be available by the end of the year .
Just messin' with ya buddy .

like Prince said, "It's the sign o' time?" I had no issues with the Crystal Skull. However, I am experiencing more and more "disc can not be play" messages the first time I try to load a movie. Cleaning the lenses with the Maxell disc sometime help, but the weird thing is put the gosh darn disc back in the second or third time and it loads like a champ.

It's near Halloween and it's spoooOOOoooky!

Well, i'm in for Indy 4 tonight too. Only thing that sucks is the wife brought it home from the video store because she knew I wanted to see it. Our local rental store doesn't have Blu-rays for rent yet, so it's SD . She would be totally crushed if I said no thanks, I want Blu-ray instead. So I'll have to suffer though the SD version. Shouldn't be too bad though since I do have the best sd dvd player on the planet. So it'll probably look almost HD anyway .

Oh ya, I'd better say something to stay on topic. BD-P1400 sucks.

I had no problems with Crystal Skull... seriously. Same firmware. Try washing the disc.

That will be perfect....the 1400 will be firmly entrenched in the bedroom by then.

Hey Barney, how about the THX "Amazing Life" trailer at the beginning of Indy 4? That is just a big flat out WOW!

Seriously 1400 veteran here IP.

Washed it 3 times with my three, never fail, "secret solutions".
Turned it off 3 times.
Unplugged it once for 5 minutes.
Factory reset once.
Loaded the moves 10 times.

The BR right before and after played Flawlessly.
INDY 4 failed in the exact same place each time...I have ordered another disc from BB. I will give the old girl the benefit of the doubt.

Regardless, the 1400 is in the bedroom by Christmas.

I have not heard it on Blu-ray yet. I did go to the THX website to play it. I have an optical cable going to my system out of my cheap-ass sound card on my computer. This did not sound that great though. I think the audio might be compressed [shrugs shoulders]

sorry bout that, bud. Barney usually reports the 1400 disc "skip preview shortcut" operability in his technical reviews. Was it awesome? Don't remember seeing any previews for the Indy 4?

yeah, cleaning them definitely seems to help. i thought that might only apply to hd dvds but now i find it helps bds also.
i clean all discs now.

Honestly Larry, I do belive these mail_order discs go through too much abuse. Not just scatches and things, but they can get warped from people bending them while trying to get them out of their case. Sitting in the HOT sun can warp a disc too.
HD discs sit MUCH closer to the laser than SD ones, and therefore can not make up for some errors as easily as SD players can.
It seems like maybe you just have a bad disc. Hopefully another one will work better for you.

Hey Smarty, it is on the BR as good old DD 5.1 and the LFE channel is amazing. I had the MV set to -10dB and the bass is better in this clip than the movie (at least the first 9 chapters). How did it sound on SD?

Don't know yet how it sounds, as we'll be watching here soon when the kids are in bed. Of course that means I won't be able to crank it up either.
Will try that tomorrow after they get up .

I agree completely, Smarty.

This disc was shipped the day before INDY 4's release date and I'm sure I was the first customer. I'm going to try and exchange it at my local BB store tomorrow for their ONE copy of this BR title.

usually the THX certified discs have some callibration utility to them, for audio and video. Case Cars DVD when it first came out, you can send in for a free pair callibration glasses.

I've been meaning to check out this feature for Crystal Skull but never did the 1400 technical review, long story of the wife sabotaging my laptop , so ending up not seeing it. I did however saw and heard the usual THX logo screen, not the amazing life one. It wouldn't surprise me that different Indy 4 boomoos have different THX logo screens.

Well, first of all I don't rent a lot. I have always been lucrative in by buying habits of dvds. I can buy it, watch it, then either keep it or sell it for what I bought it for. ...and because I used to buy SO MANY dvds, I've always had 20-50 dvds that I've never watched sitting on the shelf, so no need to run out and buy something if I don't want to. I wait till they're 3-6 months out, then get them for great prices. Never been one of those "gotta have it on release day for $20" kinda guys.

With that said, we do occasionally rent from the local video store, which is literally a 30 second drive up the road from my house. This is where the wife will rent her "chick flix" (because I refuse to buy them) and some of those crappy movies for our kids (I buy the good ones). So, I wouldn't mind renting a BR from there once in a while BUT, they don't do that yet.
Now if I wanted to drive 10 minutes accross town to rent a BR from Blockbuster, I could do so. ...but aren't they like $3 for one rental ? I think not. Like I said, I've got plenty to watch right on my shelf. Maybe about once every couple of months I find a wanting to have something right away, IE: Iron Man BR... had to shell out $15 to get that one right away. Indy4 was another one, but I could not bring myself to pay $20 for it... will get it eventually.
I am a huge Pixar fan, so I'll be paying whatever it costs for that one. That's one of the few I gotta have.

SO, to answer your 'kesskeyown', I don't live in the sticks so to speak. They do have Blu-rays round here. I just don't spend $1 worth of gas and another $3 plus tax just to rent one. Renting 3-4 BRs is the same cost as buying one. I'll stick to buying one good movie, instead of renting 3 crappy ones .
