I know but I need a BR player that has the analog outs and the 550 does but it is about $100 more than the 300 and 1400.

the 1400 whipped up on some 300 arses back in the day.

350/550 are good considerations for an upgrade. Someone asked earlier about the DVD upconversion PQ comparison between the 1400 Sigma Designs Soc and the Sony 350/550 NEC E3MMF chipset. After helping my buddy setting his new 550 up this weekend and putting the Dumb and Dumber DVD... All I got to say is I couldn't tell any difference. Better put, let's just say there wasn't anything that really jump out at you, like when we put the same DVD into his X-A2!

You're a brave soul, buddy. To be shaking the 1400 while the power is on and in front of the Misses . First mistake was to impress her with a Samsung product . Secondly, to correct the first mistake, while shaking the goshdarn thing, simply drop it, accidentally ofcourse , and tell her we'll getting a Sony!

Creature from the black Lagoon and the glasses was free from Rose's. Could never get the darn thing to work. You had to adjust the TV to be a little bit snowy and I think the film was still in black and white at the time. Anyway Jaws 3D was good in theaters and the Spy Kids 3D was great... until the show was over and you have to take the glasses off, looking all crazy, crosseyed, and stumbling like in a drunken stupor, and such !

No I did not have that much to drink in a kid's showing.. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

If you only need 5.1 analog outs, rather than 7.1, i think the Sony 350 has 5.1 and it decodes everything the 1400 does (ie all but DTS-MA). I agree with most others in saying that at this point, if you are looking to buy a new BR player, getting the Samsung 1400, or Sony 300 etc doesnt make any sense. Id go the Sony 350 if you can put up with 5.1 and no DTS-MA, or will be getting a HDMI/bitstream capable receiver at some point in the near future... otherwise splash the extra 100 on the 550 if you need 7.1 and all decoding. The 1400 at this point is only for those of us who already happen to have one - dont get me wrong, it was one of the first players to support full bitstreaming and has been a decent (albeit SLOW) Profile 1.0 player... but times have moved on now

Daylight savings in Australia (well, Queensland more so) is actually a contentious issue... Sydney (NSW) and Melbourne (VIC) have DST, but Brisbane (QLD) doesnt - due to the stupid farmers up north not wanting to work in the dark in the morning! We actually had a referendum in QLD a while ago where it was voted down, but like i say, most people in Brisbane/the South East Corner of QLD want DST, but the country regions dont. Id like to see them at least do a partial thing like the South East corner, or the East coast be on DST, and the country folk can do what they want! It is pretty confusing for the poor people who live on the Gold Coast - drive 5 minutes down the road (over the border into NSW) and the time jumps an hour, drive home and it jumps back!

That's a NOGO on the 5.1 analog output for the 350 buddy. Me thinks it's just stereo. Could be wrong tho?

Off topic but . . .

I have all of those old 3D movies too! I have them in both anaglyph 3D (red/cyan glasses) and field-sequential 3D (shutterglasses). I have about 30 of them in field-sequential 3D and absolutely LOVE them all!

I think the one Elvira hosted a while back was "THE MASK" (aka "Eyes from Hell").

"CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON" and "REVENGE OF THE CREATURE" are great in field-sequential 3D!


They're great to watch with the Panny S1 DVD Player and one of the older, 3D compatible BenQ projectors! There's a program called "StereoscopicPlayer" that sends FS 3D from your PC to your PJ, but the resulting onscreen image is quite soft/fuzzy. I assume this is due to the poor scaling of the StereoscopicPlayer software, as the image is MUCH sharper with the Panasonic S1. Of course, with the S1 you're only getting 60 refresh rate so there's a little "flicker" noticeable in the brightest areas of the screen with the shutterglasses. Still, the resulting image from the S1 @ 60 looks better than the StereoscopicPlayer @ 85!

Late last night I decided to get the P1500 w/ 4 BR's for the $100 off. After I sell the 4 BRAND NEW BR's on eBay, my total cost will be around $140 (or less). After selling my P1400 I should just about break even!

I went to amazon's promo page, chose the P1500 & 4 BR's from the list.
At checkout, I entered the promo code - it subtracted $100 from my total.
I then chose FREE SHIPPING - it subtracted $16.25 from my total.
I hit the PLACE MY ORDER button and . . . NO GO! The P1500 is no longer available for this promo!

WTF?!? Apparently, it was jerked from this promo WHILE I WAS PLACING MY ORDER! On my FOURTH call to amazon with no satisfaction, I insisted on speaking with a supervisor. When I was finished RANTING about this, he finally gave me the $100 off!

I realize it's not much of an upgrade, but if I can get the P1500 and break even, I figured why not?

Unless I get a bad P1500 and have to return/exchange it, I'm a happy camper here!

Anaglyph 3D (red/cyan glasses) is very "hit & miss". It's next to impossible to perfectly match the red/cyan colors onscreen with the red/cyan colors of the lens in the 3D glasses. And for me anyways, the red/cyan is distracting from the movie. Field-sequential 3D is MUCH better, without the red/cyan all over the screen!

Yeah sorry for the bum steer there... i thought my parents 350 had 5.1 analogs on the back, but looking around on the interweb the specs only list 2 channel analog out. Sorry peeps!

This is probably (definitely?) off-topic, but do the field sequential systems work with newer (with presumbably faster refresh) HD LCD TVs? I love 3-D, but only have an LCD TV at the moment...

I know both Samsung and Mitsubishi have "3D Ready" DLP 1080p HDTVs that have 120 refresh rate, but must be hooked up to your PC to watch the 3D movie. I haven't heard anything about LCDs working with FS 3D systems yet.

Could be one of those unique Aussie models?

Brotha from underunda, as luck would have it, someone rented their only copy of Doomsday over the weekend . I will check with them again today and the other two stores on the way home tonite... on the way to do my civil duty and vote . Should definitely have a copy to test for ya tonite buddy!

preliminary load time is 1 min 20 seconds. Took only a second or two to load the menu items such as Play, Setup, ect. once the menu animation screen came up. I will do a full technical review of Doomsday later, maybe with screen shots?

They sure do. That's $12 less than I paid (to Amazon) the week they came out. (Worth every penny regardless!)

sure did. Too bad it's already in Barney's Boomoo Collection . also BigRiver made a big mistake on the 52" Sony V4100 Series + a Sony 350 BD player + 4 Warner boomoos for 1500 bux !

Needless to say, BigRiver caught it in time and now back to 2000 smacks and the 52" W-Series in lieu of .

I'm all bout some Apes man. Too bad the local rental place don't have them yet... sux! . Prediction: No problem loading Apes and playing it with our 1400...

They're on my wish list. I love those movies.

I have to say that Get Smart BD gave my & my wife real laughs last night damn funny movie, and Anne Hatheway's legs (heck, the gonze magilla!) ain't bad neither

extremely looooong time from end of Warner screen to start of cartoon java disc to start of movie. and the 5-minute rule applies in spades

It was a pretty damn funny. I like "The Rock" so that was a pleasant surprise. I didn't know he was in the movie. But not having lossless audio was inexcusable if you ask me.

Has anyone had any success playing movies backed up on to BD-R media?
According to the manual, the 1400 does NOT play BD-R/RE. Maybe one of the FW updates changed that ?

I kept looking in the menu for something I missed... sheesh! DD, big deal

Is your video ISF calibrated? How is your theater setup.

Tried watching the Apes last night - no go. Locks up on the anti piracy screen. Menus dont function properly either. I'll check for a firmware update tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed.
