Q About Running Speaker Wire

I've got a room where I need to set up my surround speakers, but the room is less than ideal for doing so. First off, it's on the bottom floor of a 2-story house, so that makes running through the ceiling difficult... or at least it seems like it would be difficult, I really don't have much experience with this.

So what I'm thinking about doing is running the wire on the outside of the wall in the corner behind my equipment and then behind the crown molding to the positions where I will mount the speakers on the wall. If I go this route, what equipment would I need? I've seen some kits for running wire behind molding, but I was wanting to know if anyone here had suggestions. I'd like to have some sort of cover for the wire going up the corner, then anything I might need for the run behind the molding. Also, would in-wall wiring be recommended for this?

I'm also open to any other suggestion for how to do this.

Thanks!

CL (in wall) cable is not acutally required in most jurisdictions for speaker wire, but the jacket on CL wire often makes it easier to pull than zip cord or speaker wire.

Running wire behind or on top of molding is fine. If behind, and you pull the molding, you can cut a shallow groove in the plaster or sheet rock or in the molding to hold the wire.

There are many products for surface mounting of wires for example http://wiremold.com/www/consumer/index.asp. Any home center or good hardware store will have these or similar products. You may even decide use something like this for the entire run.

There are also flat (ish) speaker wires and paintable wires (although you can use latex paint on many kinds of wires) that make wires on the wall less noticable.
