Hitachi 55HDS69

OK, here's the deal. I was planning on a 50", and was looking at Samsung, Panasonic, etc. But ran across this 55" Hitachi for the same basic price. (actually 100 less than the panny & samsung I was considering). I can't swing a 59-60", just way to much of a price bump. Similarly top of the line Pioneers are out...I'm stuck in that under 2000 mkt. Wife was originally against anything bigger than 50", but I've got her to buy in that its not really THAT much bigger...lol.

SO, is there any reason to NOT go with the Hitachi? Are there any 50"s in that price range that are just so much better quality that I should sacrifice the size and go with them?

A few facts: Viewing distance ~16'. Mostly regular TV, Movies & Sports. No Gaming. NO actual HD yet, just regular dish, will be upgrading soon, but we live in BFE so its hard to schedule things. Currently viewing a circa 1990-95 27" Magnavox cabinet CRT from the 16'..ouch!

One other quick question...as I mentioned, no HD yet. Which order should I go in, get the TV 1st and then get the HD hooked up, or wait until I have an HD feed/receiver to get the TV installed?

Also, we are not going to wall mount at this time, so need a table mount (whatever they are called)...the Hitachi does not come with one, any suggestions?

Thanks,

jj

I can tell you that we spent months and months of research and going from store to store. We finally decided to pull the trigger on this Hitachi 55" and we are BOTH still very very pleased with this set. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It's amazing. The UPS delivery man just told me this morning that it was by far the nicest pic quality tv that he's seen in all of his years of delivering.

Internal Tuner allows us to pick up High Def channels WITHOUT cable box, which is a huge plus as well. Pic quality is amazing and after months of watching it, playing wii and Sony on it....not one problem, NOT ONE.

My father in law owns the Big Boy Sony, and my sister owns the 58" panny. Both are envious of the price we paid for our Hitachi, compared to what we paid for our tv. My father in law actually admits that he likes our Hitachi better than his Sony.

Hitachi has wonderful customer service, although we have never had to use them.

Only complaint....regular cable picture WITHOUT cable box is average...about what you would get on a regular tv. WITH a cable box, you will be blown away, even on channels that are NOT HD and are only digital.

I would buy it again this very minute....and for the price it's an amazing deal. It's LOOKS BETTER in home than in store. I think they lower the pic quality to make the Other big boys looks better (more money to sell those!)

We paid 2400 (including tax) for a package deal.....tv, professional installation through CC, and wall mount.

Best 2400 we have ever spent.

A word of caution...this is one mother of a tv, I would highly recomend wall mounting. The tv instructions do come with further instructions on table mounting this though.
