I've been contemplating these two receivers and have been heavily leaning towards the Marantz. Most of what I read seems that people tend to like the Marantz for sound quality, particularly for music. You saying the soundstage sounds narrower makes me a tad more cautious as I like a large soundstage.
Yes the sounsdtage has minimized. I'm going thru all my cd's that I know project beyond the speakers and sound like they coming from the walls and I can tell its narrowed down. Where artists sounded like they were singing near my speaker they all have come closer to the middle.
The only difference in my setup is just the receiver..Yes I am thinking its got to do with the setup. I see an Audessey thread and will need to read up on that. btw my room is treated.
But after more critical listening - Just using Auto Surround with HDMI, the 7002 sounds a little better than the VSX-94. I hear a bit more detail. Pure Direct is still the best and beats the vsx-94 easily.
Come to think of it now...when I connected the 7002 I plugged it into the "amp" power outlet in my Monster HTS 5000 power conditioner. My VSX-94 was plugged into another outlet. I'll plug the 7002 into where the 94 was and try it again. Cables are the same.
