Here's to hoping that Robert at ********************* finds it in his heart to offer an 'AVS Special Buy' on the BD-UP5000. He's a standup guy with typically unbeatable prices on top of unbeatable customer service.

So how about it Robert?

This unit wil be out at BB and CC in a couple weeks. I'd just as soon buy it there in case there's a problem with the unit, you can take it back with no hassles. VE is a hassle and he charges a re-stock fee. I've had problems with this in the past.

My source over at NYW says 3 weeks...Ask for Tony when you call. I kinda just assume BB will have them around the same time.

I believe him cause he's always told me straight up when he expects a particular unit to come in. I always call to verify that something is in stock first. I bought my last 2 receivers from him and he was right about when they would be in. I am waiting for him to get the new VSX-94TXH Pioneer. He said 2 weeks....maybe sooner. I know in 2 weeks or sooner I'll be able to order it. He doesn't BS folks. He knows I'll buy it from whoever gets it first and sells it at a street price.

Kind of steep on the price but I guess to have it first you pay the price.

btw:
So far, the cheapest online price is $793.
I'm waiting to see if Amazon or some other online vendor meets or beats this price.

Samsung to Launch Dual-Format HDTV Player
The set-top will play both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs.
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (July 5, 2007) -- Samsung yesterday announced that it will launch a dual format High-Definition player in late fall.

The company hopes that the set-top, which will play both Blu-ray discs and HD DVDs, will appeal to consumers confused about which format to choose in the high-def war.

Samsung's player (model: BDP-UP5000) will be the second on the market, following LG's dual-format player which was introduced earlier this year.

But unlike LG's player, which carries a whopping $1199 price tag, Samsung said its player would cost less than $600, according to several online reports.

That's roughly $50-$100 more than a standalone Sony Blu-ray player ($499), which is the cheapest Blu-ray set-top on the market. Toshiba's entry-level HD DVD player now costs $299.

At less than $600, Samsung believes its player could find a niche, although it's likely that standalone Blu-ray and HD DVD player prices will fall further in the coming months.

Samsung said the dual-format player would support all the features available on both Blu-ray and HD DVD, including Net-based material accessed via an Ethernet connection.

The $600 thing was laid to rest in August. It would be nice but as it turns out it was apparently a misinterpretation of a German-language report.

I'd take his word with a grain of salt personally. He has both Denon players on the site. Those were just at IFA and were once again confirmed as available in 2008 and there was no pricing available. Yet he has pricing on his site? Interesting.
