Toshiba HD-A2 USB Function?

Can anybody tell me if video files from USB hard drives can be played on this player? The review on CNET says "There are also two USB-like 'extension ports' that don't have any use as far as we know."

If USB drives don't work on this player then I think I'm better off with my Phillips 5982.

someone mentioned that feature coming in a firmware update though.

it was from an interview but was mentioned as a tangent to the original content.

I think the USB ports are going to be for keyboards and/or expandable storage. I don't see the player becoming a Media Center.

My guess is the USB ports will evolve when the studios start putting up sites and infrastructure for simple movie related games and added content. When that happens then Toshiba would offer up a firmware update to enable the ports.

I think they should have put the ports in the back/rear of the player.

I'm torn now between the A2 and the Philips 5982. The A2 will almost come out to the same price as the 5982 after I sell all the DVDs that I get with it. If I keep the A2, I lose the USB playback function. But if I keep the 5982, I don't get to play HD-DVDs. I wish they would just enable the USB on the A2 like the 5982.
