The NAD T775/T785 AVRs w/ HDMI 1.3 Thread! - Page 132

So, I have investigated further and have found out that in general, the performance of the T787 is the same as the performance of the T785 except that the T787 loses the video scaler that the T785 has, but gains the features, Consumer Electronic Control, and Audio Return Channel. That is good to know, since I think my Panasonic VT30 can do the video scaling necessary and the good reviews of the T785 generally apply to the T787 as well.

i am Axel from Germany. I read here for some time and I can give the 1.36, but on my T785HD (VM150, AM 200) it isn`t better with the sound. It sounds like a little fog on my Speakers, with the 1.32 the presence was much better.

Could anyone send me the 1.34, better the old 1.32? I don`t like to contact my dealer again!

You should contact NAD to see why 1.36 sounds that way. I have 1.36 and it sounds great!

A couple of months ago while watching a bluray, the volume automatically went up from -23dB to -18dB. Fortunately I reduced it down. My Klipsch RF5, RC7 are very efficient and get very loud very fast. I contacted NAD and they said it could be a glitch and had no explanation.

Today, my wife was playing some music through my Mac through optical to the receiver. The volume was at -20dB. My wife had paused the music. My daughter pressed the space bar to play again and became very very loud. My wife paused it again immediately and checked the volume on the receiver. It was +13dB. Wow. That could have busted my speakers. Luckily they are fine. I am going to contact NAD.

thanks for your answer. I think the reason is the different amp. I saw some earlier posts, you have the 775 HD. You also do not believe, this could be the reason?

My amp has just worked very well with the 1.32, except for the known problems. Problems with this i could live again, the main thing is sounded again as before. Therefore i need the old firmware.

NAD will not help me because there is no technical problem, so i hope for your support.

Maybe you have an older version for me that you can send me? That would be great!

I`m glad that i have installed the old FW 1.34 again. Finally, it sounds like before and the curtain has fallen from the speakers. NAD has probably too much interference with the HDMI inputs result in a negative effect (at least on my t785 with the 1.36 FW)! This is also the opinion of another member that wrote:

"Music first" is the message from NAD and it should stay that way.

I just picked up my T787 yesterday and am already having problems. Damn it! The remote, when set on "amp" does not work properly. I tried to turn on the receiver with the power button, but can't. Pressing the "res" button will turn the amp on. Volume buttons don't work. The "down" volume button would make the receiver cycle through one of the menus. The "up" volume button worked last night, but it has stopped working now. This all started to happen after I "taught" the remote to control my disc player and TV. Is there a way to reset the remote? What else can I do?
I am also getting a hum coming from all speakers that fluctuates in volume from loud enough to be heard over the music/TV to not audible.
I am hoping to get these issues resolved, because the T787 is a fantastic sounding receiver.
Also, how do I check to find out what version of firmware is installed?

Ok. I found out how to reset the remote from the manual. Whew! I'll try teaching the thing some new commands later today and see what happens. Anyone know what is causing the speaker hum? I have tried to locate the problem and for some reason, when I use the analog inputs, I get the hum, but when I use hdmi, I don't.

I think that I have a faulty remote. The remote will not respond to button presses for at least 10-15 seconds of constant repeated pressing...each time that I try to use it. The back light is also staying on constantly until I pick up the remote and press a button. Then it goes off. Sigh. I will be talking to the dealer tomorrow about these issues. Great sounding receiver though. Very powerful, and when paired with an Oppo Bdp-95, makes listening to analog high resolution music, amazing and lifelike.

You might want to swap fresh batteries. You never know about the usual cheap batteries that it comes with or how old they were.
On my 785, I changed the backlight time so that it only stays on a for a couple seconds, otherwise the batteries went too weak
quickly.

Yeah. I'll try some Duracells that I have in my cupboard. The remote is completely unresponsive now, after only two days. The batteries that came with the receiver are made by Foshan Zhaoneng Battery Industrial Co LTD. They feel really light compared to retail batteries. POS in my opinion.

I just replaced the dead oem batteries with some Duracell batteries that have a best before date of March 2016 and I am getting the same behavior from the back light. It will be present from the beginning, and not go out. I have tried to set the illumination duration to 3 seconds and the light will stay on indefinitely. I turned the back light off by pressing the "disp" key and "0" key simultaneously for three second and that worked. The back light was not on constantly, but it did not come on when I pressed any buttons, so I am able to turn it off, but that is not what I want. I am pretty sure that the remote has issues and I need to have it either fixed or replaced.

Don't think I ever saw a reply to this.... Any updates from anyone? I'm trying to get whatever's newer than 1.32 to see if that fixes the issue. Thanks!

Got v1.36, looks like the iPod problem is fixed. Also moved my Toshiba Hd-dvd to hdmi-6 and no breaking up like it was doing on hdm-4.

Hi guys, I recently picked a T785 from a friend. It was having trouble with voltages, so I have used a 3KVA online UPS to go with it. When playing a little loud, in DTS-MA tracks, the sound would go away for a few seconds, and then come back. The issue was completely resolved after giving it a fixed 240V from the online UPS.
I am also considering a 3D upgrade. Are there any deals available on the MDC cards for the same? Would love 2 outputs, as I am using both a TV and a projector currently with a splitter. Have two outputs on my oppo 95, but is it not the only source. I have a Tata Sky HD+ as well that I use for recording/ watching Star Movies HD movies (India specific).

The VM150 MDC will give you two outputs & 3D capability, but you will lose the high-end scaling capability if you have a VM200.

So I'm thinking of upgrading my original T775. It seems like VM150 and AM200 are the ones people have been installing lately. What significant improvements would I see or hear with these upgrades?

Is anybody else getting loud pops? I'm only hearing it on Comcast Sports after a commercial so I'm guessing that there is a change in the sound happening then (stereo to 5.1 for example).
But only has happened in the last few months of course this is when I got my 785 back from repair with a new amp card (and new firmware) so not sure if related. The pop is really bad, almost in fear of my speakers.

Which version of T785 do you have? What cards does it have? What is the firmware version? You can contact NAD support regarding this. They are usually very good. My T775HD is rock solid but I don't have comcast box. However, I use my iMac as a OTA-HD DVR and I pause and skip and do commercials, etc. No pops.

I have 785 with am200 and v150, v150x cards, 1.36 firmware. It's not a comcast box, playing thru a tivo. But I'm only hearing it when on Comcast Sportschannel (White Sox games).

Hmm. I have a T775HD with AM200, VM150 (no VM150x though). I also have 1.36 MCU software, 1.04b DSP, 1.06 video, and 1.05 UART. You might want to try doing a factory reset and re setup everything. Have you contacted NAD yet? Do you get this pop through HDMI as well as optical or only through HDMI. I am using optical from my iMac to the NAD. The only HDMI I have are PS3 and a Sony S5000ES bluray player. I also have my iMac on one HDMI but with DVI to HDMI converter (so only video).

I never owned the original model so I cannot comment with respect to that, but I have a T775HD but upgraded the VM100 to VM150. The AM200 allows you do to Audyssey MultiEQ XT and Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume (which I don't really use). VM150 is a pure pass through (which I like). VM150 can also do 3D and it has two outputs. I have not used either of these features. My system is overall rock solid. Don't know if these features are important to you or you could just leave the thing alone!

I'm using hdmi, really don't want to use optical and still use hdmi for the video switching too. I've sent email to NAD so we'll see what they say.
I tried switching the tivo to use PCM audio but then it only sends stereo not 5.1 Dolby.

In thee mean time, try the optical to at least see if that fixes the issue. Other than having to wire an optical cable and configuring that input to be optical for audio and hdmi for video, there isn't anything else you are giving up.

When Iit happened today, I did a rewind on the tivo and verified the commercial was in stereo and then the game switched to 5.1. Funny when I resumed I didn't hear the pop. So maybe some kind of timing or because I only rewound like 10 secs?

Of course NAD support's reply is to ask if the tivo is on the latest firmware :-(

I want to tell about my conclusion about my experiences with the previously existing firmware versions. The prime focus is the sound.

First of all many thanks for your help. Above all Phil who had the first update version 1.32 for the VM 150.

What can i say: The first is the best!!! All analog and digital inputs benefit from this version. The amplifier reveals a sonic performance that it is a dream. Not only fine dynamics it sounds better especially in the coarse dynamics, there is a big difference to the other versions.The deep graduation of instruments and voices is at the highest level.

Only with this version you can currently use the whole sound potential from the t785. I stand by my opinion: 1.36 makes everything worse, the 1.34 is only nearby.

I have the impression that concessions were made in favor of expansions of the new components of the amplifier. Who can live without the other components and who only need the pure sound should prefer this simple version. I would recommended you to test it to yourself. Should anyone have interest, i´m happy to send an email with the "old version".

can somebody please send me the latest firmware (1.32 - 1.36 ?) for T765 HD (AM100, VM100) to my email address "dasvo [at] planeta [dot] cz" ? I would be eternally grateful. I have been trying to get the latest firmware from NAD for months now and they have not been very helpful. I don't want to send the 20kg unit to service center each time just for firmware update.

dasvo - I don't have the latest firmware but check out the post above. axoelt says that 1.32 sounds much better. I'm wondering if anyone else has any comment on that. Can a different firmware version have such a dramatic effect on sound quality?
