ED A2-300 rattle

So I got my new a2-300 yesterday. Got it setup (minus the spike issue..see other thread), dialed in, and was feeling pretty good about it. Then I was listening to something at a pretty low level when I heard something rattle/bong. Thought no way was that the sub. Maybe something in or near the wall or baseboards. Went over closer to the sub and listened some more...sure enough it sounded like it was coming from the port area. Maybe it's port noise? Turned the sub and system completely off so the room was queit...took my hand and gave the sub a little love tap around the port area and...boom...there's the noise. Sounds like something is not tightened down inside the port area of the cabinet. Any one else had this problem with an eD sub? Any suggestions?

Give us a call or shoot us an e-mail. We'd be glad to run through the problem with you and figure out what it might be.

The only thing in the port region that could possibly rattle would be the flared end of the port itself, but it would be pretty obvious if it wasn't attached as it'd be sticking out of the cabinet.

Sent an email (reply) to you last night. Here's a copy:
my sub, a2-300, has something loose inside. at low volumes it is very noticeable and if i take my hand and lightly tap the area around the port i can reproduce the sound.

Chris,
Does the port have an internal flare? If it does, maybe it's loose.

It does have one, or at least my A3-300 does and I presume they'd be the same. You should be abll to get to the back of the port if you take the woofer or the amp out.

It does....but I can't imagine only a rattle coming from it...it would sound more like you're killing something in the box

Chris,
I'll call you around lunch time today. Should I take the port out and see what I can find? Sounds like it is under the port area.

Chris,
I tried calling you back a couple of times yesterday but it went to voicemail. The screws holding the port in place were very lose...not much more than finger tight. When I pulled it out I found that one of the connecting wires inside...black one I believe...was standing up pretty tall righ where the other end of the port would be. I pushed it down lower into the box. I think the combination of the port being installed losely and the wire toucing the other flared end was leading to the noise I was hearing. I put it back together and everything seems to be fine now.

Im glad the situation was resolved.

When screwing down the ports, we try not and tighten them too much, cuasing the port to crack, its very possible that it was not tightened down all the way, or became loose in shipping.

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Thank you.
