I recently looked at the Linkwitz Orion site. He implemented surrounds using a separate processor for the surround channels, so that the Left and Right feeds for 2 channel CD sources would remain pure unprocessed stereo signals.
My question: If I configure my processor (in my case an 861v4) to not use a center channel for two channel music, do the better surround modes (say Trifield, PL2x Music, and/or MusicLogic) alter the Left and Right signals, or, do they "merely" synethesize surround signals from the two channel music sources?
Anyone try Linkwitz's approach vs. "traditional" high end processin in a high end processor?
