I'd also like to know if Charter has any plans to streamline the sports package? As of right now if I want certain sports only channels I have to order both the Latino package and the Sports Package. ESPN Deportes, GOL TV, Fox Sports en Espanol, are only available on the Latino Package. Can you guys add these to the Sports Package? I know this used to be the case a couple years ago. I don't know why that changed.
I'd also like to request these channels in HD if they arent currently on the way.
NBA TV HD
Galavision HD
Telemundo HD
Telefutura HD
Fox Soccer Channel HD
Espn Deportes HD
Gol TV HD
Fox Sports en espanol HD
My zip code is 30542

I get those with only the sports package in 92506 but maybe it is the proximity to the boarder (~80 miles) in this market. They are only in SD which Charter should re-consider as I'm sure they want to not leave out a significant percentage of their market. These are in HD on Uverse.

You can download/view/print all of your upcoming HD additions here: www.charter.com/futuretv. Be sure to select "GA - Gainesville - Flowery Branch" via the drops downs for the lineup most specific to your area. I have submitted any remaining HD requests that you have listed. To answer your question about sports, they will still remain separate from our ethnic tiers. I will definitely pass along your suggestion though!
Please let us know if your questions have been answered.
Thanks,
Abby

So don't go disable it for me.

As far as sports vs ethnic, those are each sets which contain common subsets. If one pays extra for sports, one should get all the sports no matter the language. Football (the one actually played with your feet) is the most popular sport in the world. Do 200,000 people pack a stadium to watch a video feed of the superbowl like they do in Europe for a world cup QUILIFIER match? Not even. Would Charter not provide coverage of the Bunesliga because it is broadcast in Spanish or German or the King's English? Most definitely. The sports package needs to include ALL SPORTS, especially the world's most popular sport, without regard to what channel it is on or what language it is in.

It would be nice to have them in consecutive groups, and the same theory would apply to sports and kids channels, which are all over the place. Here is an example:
HBO 2 HD 602
HBO Signature HD 603
HBO Family HD 604
HBO HD 750
MoreMax HD 617
ActionMax HD 618
Cinemax HD 751
Showtime Too HD 637
SHO Showcase HD 638
Showtime Extreme HD 640
Showtime HD 753
The Movie Channel Xtra HD 653
The Movie Channel HD 754
Starz In Black HD 662
Starz Cinema HD 664
Starz Kids & Family HD 665
Starz HD 756
Wouldn't it make more sense to number these consecutively (either in the 600s or 700s; it really doesn't matter)? I'd even put IFC, HDNET Movies, and EPIX HD in the same consecutive group. Similarly, we have ESPN-HD and ESPN2-HD at 720 and 721, along with some other sports channels, but then have ESPN-U and the NFL channels in the 800s. We also have Nick-HD at 728, Disney HD at 749, and Disney XD (HD) in the 800s.

Hi Blue,

Per local marketing: Eventually we will do another realignment of channels, but not in the near future. We appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks again,
Abby

Like I said before it looks like a teenager's bedroom.

You guys really should get it more organized from a logical and marketing standpoint. It is all hap-hazardly laid out and not orderly. Literally somebody at Charter said, "We've got these new channels. Where should we put them?" Response, "IDK, let's just plop 'em in whereever we can." It really looks bad from the customer's standpoint. Can you tell a book by it's cover? The organization of the channels in the guide is the cover of the book to the customer. Is the rest of the book (Charter) this unorganized? One must wonder.

I think that now is the time to do it, especially for the premiums (which I don't have). They are the most jumbled up. Unless you are going to add some more HD (very) soon and want to do it then. But why put off for later something that can be done now?

With Windows Media Center, I can re-arrange them however I want by simply changing the channel number mapping in the guide and that is what I think I'll do.

More confusion in NW Minneapolis/St. Paul:

There are two Charter channels (385 and 386) airing the same feed from KSTC-DT3 (MeTv). Is this a problem at Charter's end or KSTC's end? This has been the case for about 24 hours. Thanks.

Good Morning,

Sorry to hear about that, we can check it out. What is your Zip Code?

Thanks,

Hey Umatter,
I had a question, after June 26, can I still add just the sports pack if im grandfathered in the old package? Here in a couple of months I will probably want the sports package.

Thanks

Vance

It seems to me that the digi tier 2 gives you sports and HD ultra which now cost $10 + $5 for only $10, so the HD ultra is thrown in for free.

Thanks for the feedback Sammy. I don't understand why they keep those channels separate, it's ridiculous. That's the only thing keeping me from getting the sports package since Fox Soccer is the only channel i'd watch on it. I'm not ordering the Latino package either because it has a whole bunch of channels I won't watch on it, since I don't speak Spanish. I just want to get the soccer channels. It's weird because a few years ago Charter used to package them all together in my area, now they don't.
I was in the same quandry as you a week or so ago so I just added the sports package. These channels weren't listed as included in the sports package on Charter's site but much to my suprise they were tuning after adding the sports package. You could add the sports tier and see what you get. If you don't like it just take it off.

It has been resolved--everything is back to where it belongs. smile.gif

I would also like to formally request two channels: TPT-Weather and Antenna-TV. They are available over the air but not available on cable. My zip is 55313. Thanks!

STB's are a cash cow for all providers, not just Charter.

My suggestion is to get your own be it a TiVo or CableCARD tuner for a PC such as HD Homerun Prime or InfiniTV 4 the it is $2/month for the CableCARD. The cost of the equipment is covered in only a few months of renting an STB from the provider. With the CableCARD tuners you avoid having to pay TiVo for the guide service but you have to use a computer with them.

I look at this new pricing scheme and see that when my promo ends in 5½ months I will switch to it and actually save about $5/month. If I had to rent a STB, I'd be looking at an increase for sure as it iw $20/month for DVR service even if you only have one.

I hope you guys plan on some discounts on these new packages. right now I'm paying $62 a month for Digital Home, HBO and 2 HD boxes including taxes and fees. Adding the Sport Tier would make that about $73. With the new pricing without any deals the Silver package which would give me HBO and NFL Network is $80 plus $10 for 2 HD boxes, plus taxes and fees which would be about $9 which totals $99. I'm not paying $26 more per month. For savings of $26 a month I'll switch to DirecTv or Dish if I have too.

Hi BCF68,

My apologies for any concern caused by that post. We are looking into this now, so please allow us some time to research. We will be sure to reply with accurate information as soon as possible.

Thank you,
Abby

Actually I think the guide info for channel 385 is incorrect - this channel was switched to THIS TV but the guide is showing a different channel

I would appreciate it if some one from charter could explain what is going on with espn3 and watch espn. Apparently charter subscribers do not have access to watch espn ( live programming) and almost all links for espn3 take you there. How do I get directly to espn3 and will we have access to watch espn.?

You're at the right place. You can only watch the ESPN3 stuff that's all. But try this anyways

I know you guys are on the right track but some providers have 50% more HDTV than Charter. Can we get more?

I'd still like an answer from Charter as to when we will be getting the full watch espn.

Charter (at least here in Gardnerville NV) is far behind other providers in HDTV. I had both Cablevision and Verizon FIOS back in NJ and they offered far more HD, especially with the the premium channels. We don't even get two of the most watched cable networks (USA and FX) in HD. Also we get only one HBO and one Cinemax channel ( as well as one each of Starz and Showtiime). They don't even to bother to show my area at charter.com/futuretv.

Take a look at the spreadsheet I attached, especially Brighthouse Networks.

The HD rollout is complete in my area for now and I am missing a lot that others have. Some is is the premiums which I don't get and others are in the "free" cable networks. My hope is that Charter will roll out more than they've already announced.

Hi tahoejoe,

We are very interested in offering WatchESPN to our customers, although we can’t promise a timeframe yet. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Abby

The channel guide for area said JULY. As I said since I can't see your spreadsheet, you'll have to tell me which 50-60 additional HD channels these others have.

Abby,

Thanks for hooking me up by getting my CableCARD tuner working again last week!!

Yesterday though, while recoding the NBA finals, the TA wouldn't let me change channels as my wife wanted to watch CNN during a break. I had to power cycle the TA to be able to change channels which of course stopped the recording and I had to manually record the rest of the game.

Any thoughts?

Thanks..

In regards to Brighthouse they are a cable company and thus Charter and Brighthouse are not direct competitors. You'll never live in an area where you have a choice of both. Charter is on par with DirecTv and DishNetwork which are competitors. Even so some of the extra HD Brighthouse has are things like Bloomberg HD, C-Span HD, C-Span 2 HD , C-Span 3 HD. Really? Do these matter? Or HBO West or HBO2 West. Once again you have HBO and HBO 2 which is the same programming not to mention HBO Ondemand and HBO Go. So HBO West and HBO2 West are kind of pointless.

Where Charter falls short is sports. ESPN U, NHL Network, CBS Sports Network, MLB Extra innings and NHL Center Ice should be in HD. Until Charter gets rid of all analog they really can't add more HD. And when Charter does that lots of people who will then have to use some sort of box to connect their cable to their TV will throw hissy fits. Charter is moving 6 channels from analog to digital next month in my area. Which is about the same amount of channels Charter has moved from analog to digital in the last 5 year combined. I'm sure that will tick a few people off. So imagine if they did that with 60 instead of 6.

I'm wondering why that chart shows that MSNBC & CNN is in HD in all service areas or does the green/wide not mean that? I'm in 23434 and those channels are not available in HD,
