Samsung BDP-2400 Delayed

Thread Starter
I happen to speak with a regional sales rep today from Samsung. He said the 2400 was being delayed from late October to late November.

Well, I guess that gives me extra time to purchase an upgraded TV and preamp.
Does this mean that profile 1.1 is assured?
Maybe that's the reason for the delay, to get it working prior to shipment.
Isn't 1.1 a sure thing if it's launching in November? I thought 10/31 was the cutoff to ship for any 1.0 profile players?
I wish this was able to launch in October as 1.1. I'm in need of a player now and I really don't like the idea of getting something and then looking down the road right away for another upgrade. I have the PS3 but really hate having to use a game console in my setup. I was hoping this was right around the corner for me. Guess I'll look at the 1400 and see if that can hold me over for a bit.

I think I read that any player introduced after 10/31 had to be up to the 1.1 profile.

Yes, people -- this guarantees the BD-P2400 will be Profile 1.1 -- excellent !

And this also opens the door to Profile 2.0 !

Exciting! Waiting one month isn't too bad especially if 1.1 compliance is true.

If so, Blu-ray needs some 1.1 movie releases so we can test it out.
Hasn't the 1.1 deadline slipped again to November?

Has he smashed his PS3 on you tube yet? Since this has certainly become reality, that would be quite a waste.

The 1400 is a good alternative anyway. I guess they realized that...
Would it kill people to at least glance at the threads before they post?

That's not the reason for the cancellation. Take another guess.

What Samsung is saying, if you want a high def player better than the 1400 then you have to go nuetral with the upcoming 5000.
How much will the 5000 be sold for?

The BD-P2400 is still listed as part of the 5 free disc promotion: http://bluraysavings.com/

not really, having a blu-ray player that also plays hd dvds does not mean you have to buy both formats, tho there's no reason not to.

That assumption is severe speculation. What they have right now is a HUGE price gap between the BD-P1400 and the BD-UP5000, no way is that intentional. We can reasonably expect to see a replacement for the BD-P2400 in the $600 to $700 MSRP range at CES2008 (or cheaper if the BD-P1400 price slides over the next three months.)

Well, if you ever find a BD-P2400 . . . then, by all means, send in for your 5 free movies!

I must have missed the news story providing direct confirmation from Samsung. Do you have the link? Thanks.

Agreed. Right now the only thing close to a confirmation is that the person that started the orignal thread about it said it came from there distrubitor.
Stuff is poping up all over the web today about it but they all site weslytech. So these are all from the same place and no source is listed in that blog either.

Looks like the BD-P2400 and BD-P1400 are indeed cancelled.

Thanks. Looks like another story quoting the same reports that are floating around. Still waiting to read something official.

And that one has even greater speculation in it that the 1400 is canceled.

Articles like this based on hearsay are precisely how rumors get started... Just sent the author an email pointing out that folks are playing with their 1400's all over the country.

Edit: The author emailed me stating he's corrected the story re: the 1400.
