Advice on situation Needed

I have a Panny 50PHD9UK and I am considering upgrading to a 58". I can't decide if it would be worth it for me. My primary seating distance is about 8-10 ft and can vary even up to about 14 feet. I am considering either getting the 58PHD10UK or the 58PZ700U (1080p) or the Pioneer KURO 6010 (1080p) (expensive!). I can't decide if i should just stick with a 58" 768p set or go for the extra money and get a 1080p set. My brother has a 50" PZ700U and I see no difference in it and my 9UK from further than about 5 feet. Actually to me mine makes a better overall picture so I am kinda scared of the 1080p panels! It would suck to pay for an upgrade and it be a downgrade! But with a 58" panel would I need 1080p or do you think 768 would be fine??? Trying to decide what would be the best setup for my situation. Any help is appreciated!!!

At 10 feet, you will see some benefit from 1080p resolution on a 58" or 60" display (you won't be able to resolve it fully, but it should look better to you than 720p). At 8 feet, you will certainly see a benefit.. you will almost be able to get the full benefit and resolve 1080p completely. At 14 feet, you will not see a benefit over 720p.

So, if you have 1080p sources, I think it's a worthy upgrade, assuming the set you select has better PQ. A sidestep would be a waste of money in my opinion. I would wait to see the new Samsung 5884 1080p 58" plasma coming to the market soon. It should be priced much better than the Pioneer 6010FD, and offer better PQ than any Panasonic (in my opinion, no Panasonic can touch the Samsung 5084). These are the two sets I would consider.

You can stick with 768p at those seating positions. Anything under 8 feet you will begin to see some benefits of 1080p. One key note that people forget to mention about 1080p is how much smoother the picture appears, but this is very very slight. However, that gives you the added benefit of having 1080p.

With the new prices and the rebate availible for the 58PZ700U, might be a wiser choice to go 1080P. Always keep in mind 1080P will take you into the future, as all new devises will be 1080P.
