Looking for good LCD TV and PC Monitor for Bedroom!!!!

I currently have a SCEPTRE X20WC-Gamer 20.1" monitor.

I love it, It is perfect for my PC and Xbox 360 and has the best PQ I could ask for and is the perfect resolution of 1680 x 1050. All my PC and Xbox games look awesome and I am a extremely happy with it.

But it has a few faults which are forcing me to look for a replacement. 1st It doesn't have enough hook-ups for my PC,Cable,My Xbox,My Wii....etc....It only has 1 DVI and 1 D-Sub.

Also it is too small to view from my bed or really distance.

So basically I am looking for a smaller TV AT LEAST 23" in size, but no larger then 40". I prefer 1080p if possible due to the PC monitor and my Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on. It must have.....HDMI,Component,DVI or VGA inputs.

I am looking for excellent PQ that plays games and HD movies smoothly.
I don't want to spend to much money either.

I bought a Samsung LNT4053H last weekend to use in our bedroom. It was a little large, but we quickly got used to it. Very good performance. Also got a Toshiba HD-A20 to go with it. Standard DVD's almost look HD-like.

That set was on sale last week at BestBuy for a great price. It'll probably be on sale again somewhere. The only potential issue for you is that native resolution is 1366x768.

I don't need a 40"l.....just something like a 32" or maybe a 37"/

I am on a tight budget..... No more then $800.

How is 1080i done on a 13366x768?
How does that res for on a PC?

1080i is scaled to fit the 1366x768 resolution. On the Samsung it is done very well. That resolution is OK for PC's; it all depends on your preferences. if your budget is $800, you will not get the 37' from Samsung or Sharp. Their 32 inch models are very good and they are priced in your range.

Samsung 32" is still around $900 which is still a bit pricey.

Vizio is popular, but I am iffy.

Insignia NS-LCD37 ($719.99) @ Best Buy. I purchased this for my bedroom because I wanted a cheap (cost-wise) LCD to hang on my bedroom wall. This is by no means my primary viewing set, but I couldn't be happier with it. I have a DTV HR20-700 HD-DVR & Philips DVP5982/37 Upconvert DVD player connected via HDMI to it. Rumor has it that LG makes the panel & boards for it but the manufacturer is listed as Xoceco.

32" Sharp, either the LC-32GPU1 or the LC-32D62U. The 62U is cheaper, but has fewer inputs, specifically the DVI. Can be had for around $1k US with little effort, works well as a 1920x1080 PC monitor (using one now).

There's the Westinghouse LVM-37W1 and LVM-37W3 models to consider too...they're discontinued, but can be had for well under $1000 if you're willing to buy a refurb. Lots of inputs, but they lack a TV tuner and they have less than stellar black levels. I used a W1 for a year as my primary PC display, sold it before moving to Canada, and would have bought another if I could have found one up here.

But I'm happy with my 32" Sharp, it's really a better size for my office, smaller pixel pitch, and MUCH better blacks.

I'd stay away from a 1080i set if you're looking to use it with your PC, the pixels are HUGE on a 32 or 37, so you need to sit WAAAAY back to avoid screen door, not to mention the lack of desktop real estate and problems with certain games being able to run at that resolution.

Vizio is the low price champ. It is your price/performance leader, especially for a bedroom set. Its scaling and video processing is top notch. Its quality control has improved greatly this past year.

Im more familiar with the 42" and up sets.

Dont be iffy on post sale support or quality control. Read in the threads to find some good settings and go to the store and check them out after adjusting to recommeded settings. And realize that when you get them home, the blacks will be satisfying, even though they cant match the latest gen from Samsung. BTW, the Samsung 53 series, I like as well, but its more expensive, it can be found on sale for $800ish.

See I would love to have both the TV and my PC monitor, but I would need a something to to hold both. I have a huge desk that COULD fit both, but Then they couldn't be centered and that bothers me.

Here is a 1 minute Paint draw-up of my bedroom.

I Could put a TV table, but....where?

The Gateway 2485W is worth a look too, it would excel as a computer monitor better than any TV. .

I am going to check the TVs out tonight.

Warranty isn't a concern as Sam's Club appears to have a lifetime return policy on TVs.

How is the imagine quality. and pixel pitch on vizios?
The 32 may be better as a monitor because the pixels are smaller, but I prefer the extra video viewing pleasure the larger 37" screen affords.

The image quality is darn good.

Check out the Gateway, it would work great with a cable box and dvd player and video game machine and computer, and has a good scaler/deinterlacer with DCDi technology(probably MediaTek chipset).

I went to Wal-Mart because I had to anyways, So I check out th TVs. I just have a extremely hard time looking at them because the source is **** and is split 50 times. In checked out the Samsung,Panasonic, and the Vizio. The Samsung looked the nicest and the Vizio looked good....on level with the Panasonic. But I based on color and detail and without the TVs being tuned or having a good source that could make any TV look like ****..... Seriously how hard would it to be to tune a TV before leaving the factory.
They are tuned before they leave the factory. Walmarts versions of Vizios arent recommended. They are OK, but the VX and GV series are better units than the VW series.

Factory presets tend to be on torch mode with excessive sharpness and color and brightness, so as to "stand out" on the retail shelf in a brightly lit store.

I knew that, I just had to go to Walmart anyways and it is "similar".....If I was to get it, I would get the VX at Sams Club since they have a lifetime return policy.

I am seriously looking into the VX32L after seeing this

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=1305

But I have a few question

Say I am playing my Xbox 360, Would I set the output at 720p,1080i, or 1080p?

Or say I was watching a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, What resolution for that?

Or say I am watching my Cable TV, Would I use either a 1080i or 720p? Could I set it to automatically change it use the source, Like CBS or NBC is 1080i and ESPN would be 720p.

What about upscaling DVD player?

All for best PQ.
Better to ask most of that in the VX32L thread. But....

Im not knowlegable about XBox games on LCDs.

The HD-DVD or Blu-Ray you want to output at 1080p if you can, or 1080i, the XBox HD-DVD player aint that sharp on scaling, the Vizio has better video processing. So you just want to get a good clean signal to the Vizio with as much info as possible, and let the Vizio do its thing.

Most people set their cable to output 1080i, because most HD channels use that standard(more than use 720p). And you dont have channel specific control over it. But try 720p and 1080i and see what your own eyes tell you. Neither setting is wrong, equipment variables make the question unanswerable.

Im a near expert on Standard Def DVD players though. A dirt cheap and great UNIVERSAL upconverting DVD Player is the Philips 5982, it has a USB port, which can come in very handy, plays BOATLOADS of formats, has excellent scaling and video processing, and can be had for right at 60 bucks at BB this week. Regular price is only 75ish.

The Oppo 970 and 981 are also recommended, but abit more pricey.

Good Luck in your search.
BTW, the VX32L was the best selling model LCD HDTV in the nation for the 1rst and 2nd quarter of 2007. That includes all models in all sizes. The number 2 seller....the VX37L.
I like Sharp's and Toshiba's new 32" models.

Prices have just dropped and Toshiba makes a 32" with an excellent built-in up-converting DVD player, model #32LV67U, list is $1049, but you can find forum sponsors with lower prices.

Can this TV handle 1080p to downscale it?

So you mean I should set the output as high as possible (1080p), But the TV will downscale it to .......(what resolution0?

If I input a 1080i source, Wouldn't it just come out as 768p?
How do it get 1080i even though it doesn't have enough pixels?
