That sounds good...plus the 3 year warranty

If it is "only" a rebadged Denon,why do you think they(Marantz/D&M) are waiting to release it?Because Denon is special and therfore gets to release first?It will have a better power supply for one.

Someone had to be first... They will likely be 95% identical as they only vary in MSRP by $100 (or a less than 5% total cost difference between the two). It is what it is....

Haven't read anything about a new power supply. Only thing I see is a Power OFF button on the front panel for the Marantz (none on the Denon). That may account for the only difference.

If this is the case then many of us waiting for our BD8002 should be thankful to those who did such extensive "debugging" of the Denon. I have read that thread from the beginning and I believe the result of their efforts will be a real benefit to those of us buying the Marantz.

Thanks to all of you on the Denon DVD3800BDCI Owners Thread who put in the time and effort to test and share information -- I know that your efforts will be highly beneficial to those of us purchasing the Marantz BD8002!!!

UPDATE***

These units are in production and will be out in early June. I may get to see one next week at Marantz when I swing by for a look at this and their new AV8003 and MM8003.

I am hoping that this unit will have all the pluses of the Denon 3800 (Realta chip, Burr Brown Dacs, internal decoding of DTS HD MA & Dolby True Hd) but also be able to decode DTS HD which it has been established the Denon 3800 doesn't. Of course I also would hope that it does 24 FPS without the problems that the initial batch of 3800's had. Is this too much to expect?

I am not familiar with what 2xSHARC DSP fpr HD Audio Decoding is it the same technology that the Denon 3800 is using for the audio decoding? I see they are using the same Burr Brown DACS as the Denon player and from what I have read that is good.

This week I should find out a lot more details on the BD8002 and the other pieces. I plan on going to Marantz this Friday as I'll be in NJ anyway.

If they let me in, I'll be the guy running away with the new units.

Things I will ask:

What chip is doing the de-interlacing/scaling (we know it's ABT but which one).
What are the sound chips for internal decoding?
Does it really do DTS-HD MA?

I thought they were using the Realta in the BD8002 but in the AV8003 they might be using ABT? Really waiting to see specs on both units.

Richard the Marantz web site says they are using the Realta in the BD 8002. There's no mention of ABT. Also could you please confirm if it will also be able to decode DTS HD & Dolby Digital Plus. I beleive like the Denon 3800 Bluray player it will decode dolby true HD & DTS HD Master audio. The Denon player how ever does not decode DTS HD & Dolby Digital Plus.

Nope it doesn't (say it).

I would imagine since hte next batch of Denon BDCI-3800 players are being released with the new Marantz, all fixes should be on board both players... And hopefully DTS HD as a bonus. There is no mention of DTS HD in the BDCI-3800 Manual. So, it would be a bonus.

Likely the feature set of the Denon and Marantz will be identical.

What it says is that it will do Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master audio it does not say it will do DTS HD w/o Master which is the intermediate audio quality which is better than just DTS but not as good as DTS HD Master audio. There are a number of blu-ray disc's out there that are just DTS HD audio but not DTS HD Master audio. Stir of Echoes is one that comes to mind and there are a number of others. I beleive I read some where that the difference between DTS HD & DTS HD Master audio is hardly discernible. I can't speak of this first hand as my current blu-ray player the Panasonic 10a does not decode DTS Master audio however I watched the Transporter blu-ray disc and DTS HD audio was quite good. Anybody out there have any feelings on the audio quality comparisons between DTS HD and DTS HD Master audio?

Some good news on phone last evening ---

My local dealer called to say that he is expecting Marantz to be shipping him my MM8003, AV8003, and BD8002 within next 7 - 10 days. He did not have anything showing final specs yet.

If this is correct I should have by 2nd week of June or so!!!

I would be very interested in your input on the BD8002 as I am very much considering buying this player. I need a player that will decode all the advanced audio codecs internally as I have a processor that pre-dates HDMI. It is between this player and the Denon 3800 and from following the 3800 forum there have been some issues with the 3800. So any info on specs would be much appreciated.

I will be happy to let you know. Yes, I have been following the Denon 3800 BD thread and am well aware of their problems but i remain optimistic that Marantz will have relsoved these issues. I am going to try it first with my SR9600 Marantz AV Receiver to check it out through the anaolgs and then I will try it with the HDMI through the AV8003/MM8803 separates. I have been really happy with my SR9600 and if the BD8002 works well in conjunction with this unit I will probably go this way and just use the analogs with the decoding/processing coming from the BD8002. If not happy, then will use the BD8002 with the AV8003/MM8003 via the HDMI 1.3.

Thanks, I would really appreciate your input. I have an Arcam AVR300 that does not have HDMI but does have 7.1 analog inputs & that is how I plan to connect for audio. I spoke with my A/V specialist here locally and asked him about upgrading my receiver to possibly the new Marantz AVR8002 or the Nad AVR785 and he said that I would not be getting any better quality sound by doing that. He said I would need to go the separates route to get any improvement like it looks like you are considering doing.

I find that hard to believe that the SR8002 would not sound nicer the Arcam ? I would read some reviews on that unit... I have one, it sounds amazing... Big jump from my Rotel 1057

I am sure it's very fine sounding receiver. I did a fair amount of research 2 1/2 years ago and decided on the Arcam. I previously had a Yamaha that was in the same price range and the Arcam sounded much better to me. Arcam has since replaced the 300 with the 350 and it is basically the same but with HDMI however it still doesn't have the advanced audio codec capabilities that the SR8002. Will you be getting the Marantz blu-ray player? I'm sure it would be a nice compliment to your receiver.

I have the cash ready, just the waiting game now ? Cant wait been with out a blu player for 2 months, sold my other one to get the BD8002...

If it is good as I hope it is,I will trade in my Samsung BD5000 for the BD8002.I hope it sounds better than my old DV9600(on my system)
