anyone else had issues with movie Twilight blu-ray
post #693 of 724
Just in case anyone is interested or had a Marantz BD8002 on back order (like me), I just found out that Marantz just received their newest shipment from Japan and are sending them out.

Per Marantz tech service department, no physical upgrades or changes were made to these units, but it will definately have the latest and greatest Firmware.

I hope to receive my unit from AVScience very, very soon thanks to their excellent customer service!

A recent question on whether Pure Direct improves analog audio - i feed my BD8002 via 2 ch. analog output to a Parasound JC2 and with 2 JC1 amps. - Pure Direct on, Pure Direct off - no difference in sound so i'm not sure what Marantz is doing here.

How do you have Twilight already when Amazon shows a release date May 5?

Add on: looking around I see release dates on Twilight going back to 3-23.
What's odd is Amazon shows the standard dvd available now and the Bd version not released until May 5.

I rented the movie at Blockbuster in Montreal 2 weeks ago

Well this thread just kind of dropped dead a month ago. Does this player's internal decoders do all the codecs to the 7.1 analog outs? Any problems or issues that make it a bad purchase at this point?

you can get the denon 3800 for less most places i have seen and since it is nearly a clone make sure the price difference is worth it--also generally you need to bring/send the marantz in for firmware updates whereas denon is online. the marantz has a better warranty though. i think denon has the whole blu ray laser death thing worked out now. it does all the codecs out the analog very nicely in fact--it is only profile 1.1 so if you feel the need to use blu ray live youre SOL. but my experience with that is that it is incredibly slow and generally worthless--i think this unit and the denon 3800 are some of the best values out there now. if you want something a bit newer with great performance check out the pioneer 23fd and the sony 5000 es.

Thanks for the input. I was considering the Sony S5000es until I ran across the Marantz. The Denon is about 1/2 the price of both the Sony and the Marantz from Crutchfield. Guess the Sony would be a better buy at that price point.

Is the Denon made in China same as the Marantz? The pictures of the rear panel clearly show the Marantz being "Made In China" I've checked the pictures of the Denon on Denon's site and Crutchfield's as well-I can't find anything listed on the rear stating where it is made.

Due to help I have received in these forums I am able to decode all codecs through the 7.1 analog outs with no problem and sound is great as is the video up conversion. While the updates are a pain (I wish Marantz would just send out a disk for those of us who do not have where-with-all to burn CD's as Sony does for their product support even on their S300 $300 BD player) the BD8002 has done a great job and I remain very happy.

I am doing 7.1 analog outs to my Marants SR9600 and using DefTech Mythos speakers and very happy with system.

I just bought a used (like new with 7/09 build date) 8002 and am very impressed with the pq. I prefer it over my old Oppo 83. I use the 8002 as a BD transport and use the coaxial connection to my McIntosh MCD500 for 2 channel only.

I called Marantz for question about 1.1112 firmware update. I do not have to send the unit in. I can do it online or (and the one I chose) was to have a firmware CD sent to me. Also, I really don't get the whole "Oppo thing". I really love the BD8002 PQ much, much better than the Oppo.
Didn't even know about the new firmware - thanks. Now to just remember how to load it...

Also, how does this old player compare to the new universal models? Obviously it's not possible to compare on SACD or DVD-A to the 8002, but do these other players offer great performance on these formats?

I have been a bit removed for all this for a while, so sorry if this has been covered. I don't see it in this thread.

does the new FW speed up the load-up times ?
what is the real difference between this and the Oppo BD-83? Sound Quality? Standard DVD Upconversion?

I also love to get some feedback on SQ on 2channel out (using BD/DVD) and PQ on BD/DVD's.

will they ever come out with a FW update to speed up the load up times ???
Hello People.
My Blu-Ray Marantz BD8002 incorporates a secondary audio and video decoder that allows for simultaneous playback of a secondary audio and video track which may be used for interactive audio and commentary and for picture-in-picture capability (respectively). Additional information (subtitles, audio streams, camera angles, trailers, games, etc.) can be downloaded from the Internet via computer and stored on a SD card that either player will accept. This content can be played with the original content of Blu-ray Discs.
It is necessary for me to audio and subtitles.
How I can add audio & subtitles
What in this case structure of folders on a SD Card

Thanks

i just hope Marantz can release a 3d firmware update for the player, if the ps3 has one this 2gran player deserves it too

A 3D update is highly doubtful. Neither the Marantz 8002 or Denon 3800 have the horsepower or electronics. The PS3 can do it based on brute force method (CELL processor). I hear that audio may be lossy on the PS3 due to the bandwith required for 3D video though.

If no fw upgrade for 3-D I would at least hope they would take care of their customer base and offer some kind of discounted exchange program for owners of BD-8002. I plan to go 3-D but I don't know that I want to spend $2,000 again when I see units like Oppo...I will stay with Marantz but would expect some form of customer loyalty or appreciation trade-in program...just my thoughts.

is there a region free upgrade out there for this unit ?

My Bro-inlaw purchased a Marantz BD8002 used awhile back which has worked fine up until yesterday. The disk tray will no longer open. It has been unplugged and reset and still no luck. When he powers it on, the display immediately shows "open", which did not happen normally until the tray open button was pushed.

Has anyone else had any issues like this?
