Poor video quality with VGA

I wanted to get better video with my 360 while playing standard DVD's. So, I bought the VGA cable. But, the picture is not better, it's worse. My TV (Mitsubishi WS-55511) is a few years old and I notice at the VGA port it says it supports resolution 640X480, 60Hz. To me, that seems low. Is it possible that connection my 360 to my TV with VGA is not going to work? Or, am I doing something wrong with the settings?

How did you have it set up before?

It sounds like 640x480 is going to be the max resolution on the VGA port. If so then yes indeed, the PQ will be sub-par.

I had it running through the component, as I do now after trying the VGA.

What do you guys know about the Mitsubishi XX733 and the XX734 TV's? They are both rear projections DLP's. How will these perform while hooked to the 360, or is there something better for playing games on?

Hi everyone. First post for me.

You need to go into the display setup in the 360 dashboard and choose your TV's native resolution. For some reason, when you first hook up the VGA cable it defaults to 640 x 480. I have used the VGA cable with my Samsung LNS 4692D and it works fine at 1366 x 768.

Hope this helps.
