Mini Spdif output on laptop

Hi, new member here. Looking for some info. Just bought a new HPDV9500T laptop. It says it has a digital output from the mini spdif jack on the front. I found a cable on Ram electronics that is a mini spdif to single rca connection. How to I connect this to my entertainment system and keep the digital signal? It also has a HDMI port. It makes no mention of a audio signal of any type coming from this port. I confirmed it does play video on my Panny tv, but I got no sound output from it. Any thoughts here. Currently connecting this up to a bose lifestyle system. Thanks

Your receiver should have a digital coax (rca) input in it. You can use that for audio.
