Bridging 2 Routers - Need help!

I've been trying to bridge 2 routers to increase my wireless LAN area, but can't figure it out for the life of me. I did a quick google search and searched the forums, but couldn't find much into on it without flashing bios's with DD-WRT, which I'd prefer not too unless you guys really recommend it.

The two routers are a LinkSys WRT54G as the master router and a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 as a slave.

I've tried to follow a few tutorials, but I can't ping the WRT54G.

The WRT54G set up as 192.168.1.1 with 15 IP' open starting at .2 wth a DHCP running. The WHR-HP-G54 is set up as 192.168.1.2 with DHCP off. both wireless SSID''s are the same, same channels, same WEP keys. WHR-HP-G54 has WDS turned on

Any direct links or direct help here would be much appreciated!

Does the WHR have an "AP Mode" ? If all you want to do is increase your range using the WHR, you can take the lazy mans approach and set it up as an access point.

I did that with a wired linksys and a wireless Belkin and things are working smoothly.

Would that run it as a sub-domain of the linksys? I heard that might cause issues.

Can anyone also tell me if I'm supposed to be seeing 2 networks broadcast? Or should I turn off the slave broadcast and only see 1? Or if it's working correctly, will it do this automatically?

It would not run as a sub domain in AP mode. Acting as an access point it would effectively act as a hub, routing requests to your other router.

It depends on where you are. If you are within range you could see both networks being brodcast if you want them both to assign IP's.

However, if you just want your second router to act as an access point you will only be able to "see" the signal from your main router.

You can't have two routers, one needs to be a bridge or hub. Both would give out ips if they are both routers. You can extend the domain by using repeaters. They connect to the router. But you can have only one active router, unless you want different ip domains.
