6 Days of ownership and 7 succesful minutes of viewing

Well in my 6 days of owning the Toshiba HD-A2, I have only been able to watch 7 minutes of Happy Feet HD without the player freezing.
Although I feel like my initial "wao" factor has been soured by the A2's crappy performance, the few minutes of Happy feet were enough to keep me going.
I am looking for inspiration from other A2 owners, are there many out there who have A2 that are running flawlessly?

You might want to try exchanging it for another A2, as these are generally pretty stable machines.

So, now what do you plan to do to deal with this situation?

I assume you've tried another disk to rule in or out that it's a problem specific to the disk that doesn't play correctly.

If it happens with other movies, one would think it's a player problem.

If this was a universal problem with the A2, you would expect to see innumerable posts about the problem. But you don't.

If it's the player, how about thinking about exchanging it. My A2 works perfectly.

To help you, you need to do a little more work and provide more information. BTW, your thread title should be more specific.

To complain about it on a public forum? Honestly, the internet allows any kind of phony anonymous nonsense. You'll see that the OP already started another thread on his "complaints" Sept. 5:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=903139.

Do you believe this or is it crapola? You be the judge. If I have a player giving me problems I take it back. If I have an agenda I'll get on a public forum and start several threads whining about it.

Just got my A2 and Happy Feet froze on me at 28 minutes. Might be a problem with the disc. I am updating from version 1.3 to 2.2 to see if that fixes the problem.

Hot Fuzz combo played flawlessly. Seems many other folks are having trouble with Happy Feet. Don't blame the player unless you've tried other discs that didn't work either.

There is a WELL KNOWN problem with Happy Feet at 28:49. Ask for a new disk or better yet, wait for the new release. It happens with most players I believe it is a layer change problem.

Are you saying that they'll do an exchange for the new non-combo disk?

Me very much likey if so.

I posted the threat out of sheer frustration. I waited for over week for the A2 to get here, then waited another couple of days to get everything ready for our first HD DVD viewing, had 4 HD movies on hand and wanted to wao myself as well as my wife.
I am just frustrated that even after updating the firmware, the player is freezing at totally random places on different HD DVDs. I can understand if there is a scratch or dirty disc or if it was freezing at the same spot every time, but its not the case.
I know that the forums can make it seem like a lot of people are having problems, just because mostly the people who are having issues are the ones posting threads, that said, all the posts in the "A2 problems" thread as well as the other 2 people I know who own one and are on their 2nd A2, makes me wonder if there is a bigger problem.
I ignored the problems my friends were having by thinking they were exceptions, and the good deal on Amazon made my decision even easier, but I did not expect to have my HD DVD experience ruined by a Dud.
A replacement is on its way and I now have to wait another week or more to try my luck yet again.

Why don't you wait until you get the replacement and see if you still have problems. You've pretty much stated that that one had problems. Or is this the replacement you talked about in your other thread?

Sorry to hear it.,..

Broken. Return disc/player for replacement.

Where did you buy your player new or used?

What about the replacement A2 that you state is already on the way to you (from Amazon) in the other thread? (For that matter, why did you start a second thread to complain about the same problem with a different disc?)

You report freeze problems with at least two discs in the other thread so this makes a third. Sure seems like a DEFECTIVE PLAYER to me! I don't know how "inspiration" from other A2 owners will fix a defective player.

Crap happens. Sorry it had to happen to you. But it's NOT a condemnation of an entire format.

My A2 has worked flawlessy since I received it from Amazon on Tuesday. I immediately updated the firmware and then played (not watched as I was busy) the only disc I had at the time, Superman Returns. I was concerned about all the freezing issues I had read about, but it played through without freezing. I received my free HD-DVDs from Amazon the next day and finally got around to watching Happy Feet last night. I had no problems with it.

When tens of thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of a particular consumer electronics device are being manufactured, only a small percentage of them are actually pulled and QC'd to verify a low defect rate. Therefore, some defective units unfortunately make it into the pipeline at these kinds of manufacturing volumes. That's life, it happens.

Your replacement unit will probably work perfectly fine.

That's if he can wait long enough before complaining again

Mine has run flawlessly.

Pretty sure its just the player itself. Return it for a replacement and you will be pleased.
I'm pretty sure the first thing you are supposed to do before watching any disc is updating the firmware when you first get the player. At least I've read that a lot here. That's what I did and no problems thus far. But thus far I've only watched 20 minutes so...

I've had my A2 since may. I have played probably 240 hours worth of media on the thing and only had a SKIP not a freeze a SKIP on one disc which was scratched media from netflix. My player has been dead reliable and has played everything I have thrown at it.
Exchange the player. Why would you keep it more than a day if it were giving you those problems?
As posted in the software forum, tried Happy Feet on my other A2 and itplayed fine without freezing. Small artifacting on the layer change at about 28 mins where the other player froze, but nothing I can't live with.

Guess my new player from Amazon might be a problem player.

Wow. Just looked at his previous thread. He had multiple responses that should have been enough for him to figure out what to do. And now he starts another thread on the same subject. Something is very wrong here.

I agree and I think he needs to return it and purchase a Sony Blu-Ray player and not come back to this forum...
