HD PQ: OTA vs. CATV

At least here there is no discernable difference between OTA HD PQ and Cable HD PQ. This being determined using a LG LST 3510a tuner using a DVI-D cable for both formats (OTA & QAM) and a Toshiba 51" 51H83 CRT RPTV. This does NOT take into consideration OTA in comparison to a cable companies HD STB which may (or may not) have differences. But the point of this post is CATV (at least here) does NOT compress HD signals over and above what is being transmitted to the headend.

How is it in YOUR area(s)???

I found almost the same thing: Very little discernible difference in picture quality between OTA and cable HD. The difference I did note gave the win to cable HD over OTA: Our local Fox affiliate is broadcasting HD on low-power at this time, and where I live the signal is so weak that it is effectively unreliable. Also, without an external antenna, none of the OTA is reliable, yet, of course, I encounter no such problems with cable HD.

CBS Primetime last night:
Comcast 16.98 Mbps
OTA 17.50 Mbps
Basically identical.

In my area, FOX is broadcasting at much higher power than the other stations.
OTA is more reliable than cable so far with an outdoor CM 4228 mounted inside in the attic.

No visible difference here between OTA and Comcast's Motorola DVR.
