Denon Video Processor

Apparently, according to HomeTheaterHiFi's CEDIA 2007 Show Report, "Denon is delving into the video processor market with their new HD video processor with Silicon Optix's Realta HQV processing."

Thanks, although it seems a little more than a rumour, since there's a photo of it on the Show Report page, albeit probably of a (complete looking) prototype.

Realta based processors certainly have had their share of problems - including the NEC TheaterSync - but, so too have non-Realta based processors: notably DVDO in particular. However, Denon seem to have had fewer difficulties with their Realta applications, such as the DVD-5910, and DVD-3930, which, in regard to Realta implementation, seemed relatively stable from their release. So, I have high hopes for the Denon processor, provided they get the basic feature-set and price right.

Looks like it's an HDMI video processor/switcher dubbed the DVP-602CI, with an SRP of ~$2500.

Apparently, it "..features six inputs, HDMI 1.3a support and can scale to 1080p making use of the Silicon Optix Realta Noise Reduction chipset en route to its two simultanous outputs."

It's been a while since I saw any mention of this VP, but it does seem to have made an appearance at CES 2008. Did anyone get a close look at it at CES, and maybe take some photos - especially of the rear - and/or hear any firm specifications or estimates of likely availability? I've seen a few tantalizing photos of it at CES, but nothing revealing, and no specifics in any reports.

Well, it's good to see it hasn't just quietly disappeared, but it does look like it's basically only the video section of the 5308/AVC/AVP-A1HD, rehoused, which is disappointing. It appears only to provide a very basic feature set, nothing to compare with the likes of a Lumagen, for example, so it'd need to be quite inexpensive.

Interesting to note the literature claims it outputs 480i.

I hope so. The feature set might be enough for the integrated video section of an AV pre/pro/amp, but not for a stand-alone video processor.

Denon list the price as $2,499.00.

Gefen's VP also lists eWarp2 (AnyPlace) which I don't see mentioned on Denon's, and the former is less than a third the price @ $699.

Cypress' VP also has component outputs.

The Denon's remote has an "ASPECT" button, but there's no mention of what this does. Ditto, no mention for the gefen/cypress. Presumably, the Denon aspect control is the same as on their AVP/AVR - basic 16:9/4:3 letter/pillar-box. I would want considerably more aspect control, and cropping/zooming, etc.
