I'm there too. Gonna try DVE Pluge pattern with the two RGB settings on my A2 connected HDMI->DVI to my Sony.

r-oh r-oh!!!!

It takes a whie at 5/5. Be patient.

The "No Disc" logo and the menus have a different look and font. Nicer!

It finished, and i just changed the setting to 1080p/24, I left the RGB setting to normal, just trying my Calibration disk to see if I leave it like that or change it.

Thats good to hear, has anyone else noticed that the setup menu on the A2 seems a tad blurry/fuzzy? does not seem sharp at all to me! Hope thats not just my tv..
Well I just tried both RGB settings and I can't really see an immediate difference at all in my Mitsu WD-65731.

It will take more time that I don't have right now.

But, yes, you can go ahead and update it, it's OK.

If anything, the setup menu seems sharper on 2.5.

Well thats good to hear, because all the way up through my 2.2, it has looked blurry to me..

I just tried both RGB settings.

Over component (as always), I can see the BTB bar on the extreme left of the HD-DVD DVE pluge pattern.

On HDMI->DVI to my Sony, I can't, regardless of whether the RGB setting is Standard or Enhanced. I even tried rebooting the player in between setting changes.

Now, since firmware 2.1, the black levels have been better on HDMI->DVI for me (movies are at least watchable). So, when I watch HD-DVDs, I use component; when I'm upconverting SD-DVDs, I use HDMI->DVI.

But it doesn't seem (at least for me) that the RGB setting fixes anything for me.

Yeah, for me it's been a bit blurry too...
Same here. One of the previous updates made the picture softer overall; beyond just the setup menus and display info.
mine a-2 still says it fully updated at 2.2. Did any of you guys update to 2.5 through the ethernet

On my XA2 after step 5/5 it opened the tray and turned off. I took the disc out and turned it back on per the instructions. It then said "welcome" and started to retract the tray. It didnt finish and just sat there. I finally had to unplug it (SCARY). Then pluged it back in and powerd up. It retracted the tray the rest of the way then said welcome and I got the firmware update message on the screen, clicked ok, then verup flashed on the screen a bit. After that the player powered off. It seems happy now.

Changed the rez to 1080p/24hz. About to test.
If the TV cannot accept a 1080p/24 signal will it go back to its original settings?
Wow v2.5 added what type of disc it is(ie HD-DVD or DVD) in General->Twin Format Disc.
Hopefully that fixes combo disc problems.

You should also try toggling the Enhanced Black Level setting along with the RGB Output Range setting.

New XA2 owner here, currently running 2.2.

I have a 1080p60 display, and pass the signal over HDMI, audio through analog.

Do I need this fw upgrade??

I would(and I did) update,v2.5 adds 1080p24Hz and enhanced RGB...it also adds an option to select format for combo discs.
BTW:I have a A20.
